Worst Experience at South Shore Hospital
My wife was admitted to South Shore Hospital in December 2022. She was in and
out of the hospital and back and forth to home and Rehab for 9 months. My wife passed away at your hospital in August of this year. My wife's experience at this hospital was terrible. My wife and I had to deal with appalling and deplorable incidents. There were issues with staff not following procedures, when attending my wife's needs. Some doctors, Nurses and nurse's aide were good, many were not. My wife was Kidney Transplant Patient, and her doctors were at Mass General Hospital in Boston. We tried to have transferred back to MHG many times and were unsuccessful. South Shore Hospital did not do what was best for my wife to get her back to MGH. South Shore Hospital did not have a Kidney Transplant Unit or have experience dealing with these issues. The doctors were unprepared, when they visited my wife, and couldn't answer,
medical questions that they should have known. My wife could not walk due to the fact,
that she had been in bed for so long. We made many requests to the doctors and nurses. We wanted them to put her in a chair to get her a change of pace, even some exercise, it took forever to get this accomplished. My wife had a Stroke, Blood Clots in
both arms, Breathing Problems, kept on getting Pneumonia, UTI'S and C-Diff. My wife
also had hospital delirium so she was confused a lot which, they did not treat. Sometimes she was unable to push the call button. I spent 6 to 8 hours a day with my
wife so I could get proper care. My wife sat in poop for 45 minutes with no assistant I had to go out and down to the nurse's station to get the nurse's aide, to assist my wife,
this happened all the time. The secretary at the front desk kept on turning the call button off. I complained about this and one of the staff members spoke to her. She
should have been fired. My wife also had gloves on her hands at times, which are called restraints, if you have to do this, you need somebody to watch her. They had nobody watching her. This is a violation of the Bill of Rights of the hospital. South Shore Hospital is the worst Hospiital ever. Unfortunately, this what you get when you live in the
South Shore? Even shutting off the call light is a violation." Heads should roll"

There are many more instants that I could talk about, hopefully things will change for the better.

I received medical services on 4/18/2018 for a total of $6,519 of which insurance covered $4,699 leaving my patient responsibility at $1,820 for 2 hours in the ER.

I immediately called the hospital to setup a payment plan. Every month the agreed payment plan is taken out of my bank account which my bank account statements reflect. However, in the mail today I received a letter from the hospital stating that they have not received payment, that my balance is past due and that I need to pay $300 or my account will be sent to collections.

I called the hospital to try to figure out whats going on, the rep told me that they can see I am on a payment plan and that the money is being withdrawn and also "don't worry about that bill it's not going to collections". But couldn't explain why I received this bill threatening collection. (I have audio recording of conversation).

Additionally, I have a collection agency hounding me for a $114 bill from South Shore hospital which is supposedly part of thee services from 4/18/2018 yet a separate bill? This mystery bill is not available in the online portal nor have I ever received it to date but yet it is in collections.

How can I have a hospital bill of $6,519 and $114 not be included in that? Makes absolutely no sense and it is very clear that the billing department at the hospital is behind about 20 years technology wise. This is the most unorganized department I have ever come across and is resulting in most likely thousands of patients dealing with these same type of threatening issues.

The emergency room, and regular patient rooms during a recent stay were a threat to patients' health. Two of the rooms I stayed in other than the room I was in at the emergency room both needed to be cleaned. There were visible messes on the hospital bed arms, in the bathroom, etc. My family helped me clean the first room with disinfectant wipes, and needed to ask the nurse in the next room for help in getting the room clean. Things like ***, etc are all serious threats that are picked up in hospital environments if the proper cleaning procedures aren't closely adhered to after each patient leaves, before a new one comes in. This is critically important for all patients, but especially patients like me with seriously compromised immune systems
