I am a home health aide and have worked in a facility before. In May one of my clients ended up in their rehab. While we didn't have many issues while she wan in rehab it was a completely different story once she was moved upstairs to Long Term Care. I do not know how they pass state inspections because this is the dirtiest place I have ever been to. I visit the facility every Monday-Friday from about 8-9 AM. Every time I am there the hallways smell completely of urine and when I asked the director how often the sheets get changed he replied "when they get dirty." Usually sheets get changed at least once a week whether they're dirty or not but this is not the case at Heartland. My client was often in the same clothes from one day to the next and consistently missed showers even though she is only supposed to get 2 a week. Cleanliness is not the only problem but also nursing care. Although she has a call button it is often put out of reach and takes at least 30 minutes to an hour to be answered. I arrived one morning and her brief was so wet it was disintegrating. I started taking her to the bathroom and washing her up myself even though we are paying them to do it. The facility is also supposed to be doing her laundry and several things have come up missing. When we toured Heartland we explained that she was blind and would need to be spoon fed and they assured us that this was possible. However, she nine times out of ten she does not get fed unless we are there. Despite countless attempts to voice our concerns to the administrator nothing has changed. The staff seems to care more about their cell phones than the residents. She is not the only one being neglected and something needs to be done.
