Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital Reviews (2)

My cat received a blood transfusion from the Southern California Veterinary Specialty

Hospital on February 1, 2016. I talked to his treating doctor at about 6:45 pm and was told that she was doing well and I could pick her up and bring her home. I arrived at about 7:15 pm. At 8:30 pm, a veterinary technician brought my cat into the room where I was waiting. When I opened up her carrier, I noticed she was listless and then appeared to have a seizure. I told the technician that I thought she was in distress and having seizures and he took her out of the room for a few minutes. When he brought her back, he said she was fine and I should take her home. I told him that she did not look right and asked if she should see a doctor or stay

at the facility. He told me the cat's body was probably just adjusting to the transfusion

and I should take her home. I took her home and her condition worsened. At 1 am, I took her back to SCVSH and we saw an emergency doctor. This doctor said that my

cat was seriously ill (her blood sugar was extremely low and she was septic) and

should never have been sent home. The doctor did not think she could save her and

the cat was suffering so I agreed to have her euthanized. If my cat had remained at the hospital earlier following the transfusion, they would have been able to treat her, but I was told then that I needed to take her home. Both the emergency doctor and her treating doctor have agreed that she should have been kept and that I should not have been told I had to take her home.

Review: My wife, [redacted] and I took out cat [redacted] to the So Cal Veternary Hospital for a consultation about the neurological problems suffered by our cat. The appointment desk said that Dr. [redacted] would have all records of our cat and review them before the appointment. When we arrived for the appointment on December 18th, Dr. [redacted] did not have the records until the middle of the appointment. We were given just general information for the first half of the appointment. The doctor then took [redacted] away for radiographs and blood tests without telling us of the cost. On the website of the hospital they say all costs will be discussed before procedures were done. The radiographs and blood tests cost $376.20. The records show that radiographs and blood test had been previously done by our regular doctor on November 29th, November 31st, December 5th, and December 13th. The tests done by the hospital were duplicates of those already done, some within a week of the appointment. The tests provided no new information.Desired Settlement: We would like the $376.20 charges for the radiographs and blood tests to be refunded to [redacted]'s credit card.
