A note about SOUTHERN CONSTRUCTION here in Arkansas.

We had our roof replaced just over a year ago due to hail damage by the above company. Jared is who we dealt with during the entire process and was very pleasant the entire time.

This week we called because we have found a roof leak in our master bedroom on two walls and both walls it goes down to the basement. We probably wouldn't have noticed except we are having our top floors totally replaced.

We have called several times now and he still hasn't come out to check.

Does this sound like a contractor you want to do business with?

Con artist. Doesn't finish job. His crew was under skilled. Drywall in living room wet, flashing around chimney not installed properly. Sad he would come to repair, contacted him SERVAL times, never showed up.

BEWARE!!!!

Charged for materials that were not for my building.
I prepaid for every single item that was used or delivered to my site. That was the agreement. However, once the project was complete, he tried to charge me for lumber that was not mine nor was it used on my building. He said it was lumber he paid for and used. He is still trying to collect money that is not owed to him.

Desired Outcome

I want the lien he has placed on the property, released. It is not much but it is strictly the principle of the matter.

Thank you, Brandon!

Jared of Southern Construction was very professional and courteous throughout my experience with soliciting a construction bid to replace my worn and weather-damaged roof. He was patient and understanding when my insurance company seemed to be in low-gear with approving the estimate and sending out payment so that construction could begin. His bid was lower than two others that we received, and his estimate used premium materials, and he even included stainless steel, powder-coated rain gutter guards for free as part of the deal! I was very impressed with the work done, and his crew had the job finished in a day and a half. His crew also was very conscientious in cleaning up both the front and back yard, as well as carefully canvassing my driveway to make sure that no errant roofing nails would find their way into my feet or the tires of my vehicles. I couldn't be more pleased with the results of Jared's crew's work, and the great look of my new roof! I would not hesitate to recommend Jared and Southern Construction to friends and neighbors for any work needing to be done at their houses. Jared is also one of the friendliest contractors I've ever had the pleasure to deal with - and this is coming from a former contractor myself.

Thanks for being a great customer, we appreciate your business!

We hired Jared owner of Southern Construction to repair one of our rental houses after being hit by a storm. The home was almost totaled requiring extensive repairs including jacking up the foundation and replacing the roof rafters and all. Jared agreed to do the job as per the insurance adjusters bid and specs. He did not do one thing per insurance bid. He did shoddy work with cheap materials and tried to cover his shoddy work. When contacting him repeatedly and inquiring about the things he wasn't doing according to insurance bid his reply is "that's all just fluff to drive up repair bid" or "it's just a rental who cares?" Our roof has been done twice by him now and we can still see where the tree went through it. The floor is a joke because he "jacked" it up in 2 hrs. now my cabinets are all messed up and my floor is like a fun house. The vinyl siding and trim looks like *** and there's not a straight line on the house. The list goes on and on. This man knows absolutely nothing about contracting or roofing. He is out to take advantage of insurance claims and the elderly. Beware!!!

This is a perfect example of the saying you can't please everyone. When the M.'s contacted me to do the repairs on the home, I looked at the job and scope of work to put the house back in the condition it was before the incident with the tree. The house was remodeled one year prior, and when we were doing the demo on the house, it was one patched up mess after another from previous work before we were even contacted. The floor was a complete mess before the claim of the tree damage. There was a lot of damage to the walls from the renters they had there, that was not associated with the scope of work, but we painted, finished, touched up and textured just to be nice and make it as good as it could look. This house was probably built in the 60's or 70's out of rough cut lumber. There was nothing straight, plumb, level, or square about the entire house to begin with. There was also an addition on the back (NOT done by Southern Construction) where when it was framed into the roof, you could see the marriage line in the roof where the old and new came together. We demoed and made repairs to the home with new siding, soffit ,and windows as needed. We also repaired trusses and floor joists, installed new T&G, new ceilings and tile in the bathroom. We even upgraded the bathroom floor to tile to match the shower surroundings, and did not charge her extra. The tile surrounding was done twice for them at our expense, trying to please them bc they did not like the color of the tile, even though she gave permission to pick out the tile as long as it matched the laminate flooring, We also removed and rehung upper cabinets in the kitchen, exactly the way they were previously. The house was poorly constructed and patched to death before we even got a hold of it. The home owners were expecting miracles on this house and were wanting it fixed on someone else's dime such as the insurance and my company. They were rude to people working on the house on a daily basis. I firmly believe there isn't a contractor out there that could make them happy. There are only a few minor finishing touches on the project to do, but after meeting with the home owners, their conduct was very inappropriate, them making threats to cause physical harm, I kept it professional, took pics of the property inside and out, and left. I own and operate a honest and professional company and we do our very best to try and make customers happy. I have numerous letters and thank you notes from happy customers sending their appreciation for the good work we perform.

This response from Jared F. of Southern Construction is just more lies from a man who has absolutely no business in construction. He had plenty of opportunity to do the job correctly but he was more interested in the insurance money. We were not afforded the opportunity to choose our materials as Jared made sure he bought the cheapest materials he could find. Our hardwood floors were removed and the cheapest laminate was put in. He was to replace 9 roof joists that were smashed by a tree. He replaced NONE instead scabbed it and as a result there is still a huge dip in our roof where a tree went all the way through ceiling. Did I mention we made him do the roof twice...twice and still a huge dip. The foundation was to be jacked and leveled with 8 new joists put in...he put in NONE...but billed our insurance thousands of dollars in additional monies for additional floor joists. As a result of the floor not being leveled our kitchen cabinets are falling in a hole and they are unusable. The ceilings he insisted on putting in were not sealed and then painted white are now covered with huge yellow resin stains and looks nasty. The cheap siding, that Jared replaced our aluminum siding and 1/2" insulation board with, is full of holes and gaps and was trimmed improperly. The upper kitchen cabinets he did not remove but yes installed them...crooked. The tile on the bathroom surround was beautiful before storm. Jared showed me a nice tile for replacement and then bought some huge cheap floor tiles instead. As for being rude to his workers....the trouble started from day one with this crew and we had to check in daily to make sure they were sticking to the contract and not putting in changes. Well everyday we would ask them why they were not going by the contract and the answer was always Jared told us to do it this way. We would speak to Jared and he would assure us he would "fix" the issues. He never did. He would just quickly cover up his shoddy work. Yes this house was remodeled last year. It was beautiful and had many upgrades. The tree that hit the house was over 100 years old and was massive. The damage was extensive but not impossible. Jared and his crew were to have the house finished in 2 weeks , their timeline. It's been 3 months and now we have to repair the damage caused by Southern Construction. Honest professional company? Not by a longshot more like Hillbilly ingenuity.
