Southern Maryland Paving, Sealcoating & Excavating Reviews (%countItem)

Purchased a brand new home in Nov 2019. The home came with a 1 year warranty. My driveway was laid with an uneven layer of asphalt. We were supposed to be delivered a 2 inch (1.5 rolled) thick rolled layer of apshalt driveway. There are parts where you can see the ground underneath, some that are buckling\crumbling apart and parts where grass is growing through. I've contacted my builder (***) about this who directs me to contact Southern Maryland Paving to give them a chance to make it right and honor the 1 year warranty. I called Southern Maryland Paving and spoke with an Employee who was very polite and understanding on Tuesday April 28. She explained to me the builder has changed their requirements 3 times in the past year and she didn't seem to agree with it. I explained to her the situation and she told me she was out of the office and would call me back the next day (Wednesday April 29) so she can check her records to see if it had been raining a lot when our driveway was installed. Why would you lay a driveway on wet ground if you know it's going to cause issues? I never received a call back from her so I followed up with messages on Thursday April 30, and Friday May 1 requesting a call back. Today is May 13 and still haven't heard back. My phone calls and messages are being ignored and Southern Maryland Paving hasn't even offered to come and look at it. They company seems to know this is a recurring issue but still performs the work and blames the builder (***). I don't believe it's fair as a customer to be stuck between contractor disputes.

Southern Maryland Paving was hired by a neighbor to pave a shared gravel road. SMP used our gravel driveway to stage their vehicles during paving and took gravel from the end of our drive to shore up the edge of their new paved road. Their heavy paving vehicles made multiple turns in our driveway (about 50 feet or so) displacing the existing gravel leaving behind dirt. Due to the lack of rain this is causing a large cloud of dust to form every time we exit or enter our driveway (causing dust inhalation concerns). Once it rains I am very concerned that, with the gravel gone, the dirt is going to wash away; causing pot holes to form in the driveway making corrections even more difficult.

My husband and I have made multiple phone calls to SMP to explain the issue. The gravel that SMP removed from our driveway was a repair that we had only completed 2 years ago at our own expense to prevent driveway issues (as expressed above). We explained to SMP that we had made recent repairs to our driveway so the damage was especially frustrating especially since they didn't have our permission to be on our property while working on the road. They should be willing to repair the damage they caused.

In the one phone call where they did speak with us directly they stated they were busy and would try to get out to see the problem when they had time. Subsequent phone calls on our part only go to voice mail.

Not returning phone calls and not addressing the damage they caused is an unacceptable business practice. We turn to the Revdex.com to help resolve our dispute.

Hello
I did hire this company because I need to extend my driveway . They did the job but Im not satisfied . They damage my existing driveway and fix very unprofessional ( looks very bad )
Also on the addition driveway they didn't level and water is sitting not draining properly .
They promise me to come over and fix this but that never happened.

did contract us to complete his additional paving on 12/5/18 which on that afternoon we complete the additional area payment was made on that day which closed out the estimate. On 12/13/18 we received a call from the homeowner that he was not satisfied with the tie in area. Brian from *** when out and review and had determined we needed to go back and saw cut the area that was not straight. We reached out to *** and stated that we would schedule to have someone out to repair but we were not sure as to a date just yet. *** called and left a message on 12/28 wanting to know the status which at that time our office was closed for the holiday till 1/2. I Tiffani spoke to *** when I returned back to work the week of the 2nd and told him Friday 1/4 that we would be out on Wednesday 1/9. On the schedule date of 1/9 the crew got stuck on another job and didn't make it there I was out of town but we did get into contact with him to reschedule a new date before Friday 1/11, and at that time he also stated that he was having issues with the water flowing across. On 1/11 Justin from our company went out to review the work that needed to be completed and at time was not able to complete any of the repairs and told homeowner that we would be back in touch with them to schedule a new date when I returned from vacation. *** was not contacted the week of 1/14 due to the weather our office was not on normal hours and then the week of 1/21 we were in a move. I do understand his concerns about trying to reach out to us during that time. As we promised *** we would complete the repair for him the timing of the year is not the best due to the season. Our plan for *** is as follows we will be sawcutting to asure that the transition is straight and we will also heat the area up to lower and allow the water to flow. At the time when proposed we quoted a 2 phase process to allow for the ground to settle before the asphalt was install but homeowner didn't want to do it that way he wanted it to be completed all in the same day which unfortunately in some cases this will happen and the ground will settle causing it to hold water, but we are going to try to get the water to flow since we will be there to correct the issue with the asphalt line. At this time we will have to wait till the weather warms up a bit (not frozen ground or raining) to correct so that we can get the material. In the meantime the only thing that I can offer to the customer is a warranty letter stating that we plan to resolve the issues stated above. If the customer will except we can move forward.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards

STAY AWAY! I had them cap my driveway and they did a good job except they ran it too high up to the garage. That means every time it rains it runs in the garage. I have called the manager Tiffany for 4 months now with promises to fix it. Even confronted their crew manager on another job on my street and he promised to fix it which he never showed. I further told them I didn’t want to put a negative review on google which they didn’t care because they already have by $3,500! Do ur homework. If they screw up your screwed and their not coming back to fix what you have already paid for.

If you like getting estimates that are a great price, getting constantly rescheduled (one time due to rain which is ok , 2 times due to "equipment failure") , getting constantly told how unimportant your smaller job is , and eventually not having a place return any calls at all to reschedule and honor their quote then southern Maryland paving is for you !!

We are sorry for your frustrations at this time regarding this matter in getting back into our schedule. This year has defiantly been a challenge for us starting with the weather then with not having the correct help at the start of the season due to the lack of Visa being released by the government which is a program that we have used the past 10 years. We are just getting back into our normal scheduling now that we have the men back and equipment upgraded if you are willing to give us another chance to complete your job it is just as important to us as the others you may reach us in the office from 9-3pm. We are truly sorry for the frustration this has already caused you.

This company paved the parking lot of our church in October 2016. Drainage issues in the rear parking lot arose along with 4 ruts in the pavement near the drainage problem. The company came out and repaired the drainage issue, though water still sits on the pavement around the drain. The ruts were never repaired even though according to the company office staff the account shows the repairs were done. Pictures were submitted and over the past 3 months multiple emails were exchanged. On April 10, 2018 the office manager sent an email stating that the ruts/holes would be repaired as soon as the weather temperatures remain steady and above 35 degrees. It has now been 5 weeks and I have reached out to inquire when the warranty repair will be made and no one from the company has gotten back to me since last week.

I have agreed that *** would stand behind the work when I spoke with Tim. I had stated to him that we were under staffed this year due to not have enough employees but as soon as we were up in the area we would fill in the holes to please bear with us but we would take care of it this was in an email in April. I also explained to him that we had not started the season till mid April due to the weather and asphalt plants opening. I had asked time if there were better times than others and Tim did email me on the 1st week of May stating anytime was good. We do still plan to installing asphalt/ patch the 3 holes in parking lot, as to the ruts that are being addressed to there was not any communication regarding those. I have attached the emails and pictures of holes.

Company performed as per estimate. On time, clean work and professional staff.
