Review: I went to Southern Maryland Women’s Healthcare for a health issue. A microscopic test was taken at the time of the visit to confirm the diagnosis, and a prescription was written. A laboratory test was ordered by Tia B[redacted] without informing me that the test was being ordered, and I was not called with the results. I had no indication that this task was ordered until I received a bill from [redacted]. The test was for $908.00 – my insurance covered $662.08, and my bill was $245.92. As the bill was due upon arrival, I paid [redacted] for the amount of $245.92. This is completely unacceptable and is a violation of my rights as a patient.

I called the office several weeks ago, and the manager said that the matter would be addressed. The manager requested I send her a faxed copy of the Laboratory Bill, which I sent over that same day. I waited for four weeks for the office to look into the matter before I made a follow-up call to the manager. I have not received a response from in over two days. Due to the lack of response in both addressing the issue and responding to my contacts, I feel obligated to file a formal complaint in hopes this will help resolve the problem.Desired Settlement: Southern Maryland Women’s Healthcare to compensate me for the amount of $245.92 via a check made out to “[redacted]” and mailed to: [redacted]

November 21, 2014To whom it may concern:We here at Southern Maryland Women's Healthcare strive to give the best quality of care to our patients. I spoke with the patient and informed her that I would investigate the matter and that there are different strains of the test. Furthermore, the test is performed so that we can make sure the patient can be treated appropriately. Our office policy is that we contact our patients with any abnormal results and that the patients can contact our office if they have any concerns. I spoke with the provider regarding this and she assured me that she would inform the patients that a lab test was sent and that she is usually very conscience of informing her patients. I also sent an email to all of our providers to remind them to inform their patients. I spoke with the patient and let her know what measures that I took to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
