We have 3 storage units at Storagemax.
Our units are currently infested with rats/mice.
We want to be reimbursed for damages/moved to a new location.
We met with Bill *** manager on Tuesday May 7, 2019 to inspect our units.
Mr. acknowledged during the inspection that there was fresh rat/mouse fecal matter and urine in our units and that our personal items had either been damaged or destroyed.
We had previously discussed with Mr. about this same matter in the fall of 2018.We had been assured at that time the matter had been cleared up.
During our meeting on May 7th Mr. offered no hope or solution. He did provide us with a broom and duster so we clean up the rat fecal matter.
We want compensation for items destroyed or damaged and moved to a location at StorageMax's cost.
When we met in the Fall of 2018, my statements were made in good faith because I was being told by the exterminator hired by StorageMax that the matter would be resolved in short order. When that did not happen as projected, I hired a different exterminator.
At the May 7, 2019 meeting, you pointed out that the problem had not been cleared up and in fact we saw evidence of fresh activity. I did not realize at that time you were making a case for compensation.
Although under the terms of our signed agreement it clearly states that StorageMAx is not liable for loss or damage to the contents of rental units, we want our customers to be satisfied with their experience.
If the customer gives us list of items damaged and a reasonable estimated cost of repair, we will be happy to consider reimbursement. We would also be open to relocating the customers items to a different area or building at StorageMax.
StorageMax regrets this unfortunate situation.

Rented storage unit for 1 yr., due to husband being very ill. Flew him to Mich. he passed March of this yr. I returned to Destin/ Santa Rosa Beach to start over. When opening storage unit approx. Oct 24th, found everything covered with rat feces & urine. Piles & piles of feces I swept up! Had to clean everything w/ Lysol prior to placing items into van. Just plain NASTY!! On their website they advertise clean & climate controlled. False, they have a rat infestation and not doing anything about it. Was told on 1st day I must have brought rat in!! Very insulting to me being VERY clean person. I told them they had "rats!!" Not rat!! Was told this is an only case, they ever had this before. I told them hard to believe with amount of poop! Was offered $75.00 back, I refused telling them that did not even cover what I threw out + my cleaning fee. On day 2, a man came by my unit and said "you have rats too!" He was also told by bald man he was an isolated case of rats! They had thrown a lot out as well. Found out he was reimbursed for customer picture frames chewed up. Nothing offered to me but $75.00. Have many pics on phone of piles of feces, damaged items, etc. was told to report him to Revdex.com which I'm doing, Chamber of Commerce notified, City of Destin notified, and will persue small claims court soon as well. This must be stopped for him to charge rent, and not get rid of rats when they know problem exists! Restaurants and condos/hotels do business there as well !

Refund Refund for full yr. of rent. Due to having to clean / disinfect everything prior to moving. Should have taken 1-1.5 days to move. Took 4 days!!
Than you so much for sharing the above referenced complaint. We are sorry that the customer is disappointed. To clarify, we were notified by two different customers that there was rodent evidence in their units. We set traps immediately after the first report, caught a rodent, reset the traps, and had no activity for a week. Upon hearing the second report, we hired, within 48 hours, a professional service to solve the issue. The pest control company inspects the premises every two days, and that will continue until they have removed the problem. Once solved, they will inspect monthly to maintain control.
As you know, it is impossible to determine where the pests came from. We have been here 15 years, and this is the first incidence of pests. We are working diligently to alleviate the issue, and I am confident it will be resolved quickly.
This situation is as upsetting to us as it is to the customer. It is not correct, however, to say we "knew of a problem and id nothing about it". We acted immediately upon the first notice we received. When we learned our efforts were unsuccessful-with this customer- we employed a professional pest control firm to solve the problem. They are on site every other day, and they will remain.
We are committed to our customers. We can appreciate the customer's dissatisfaction, and we want her to feel this issue was resolved to her satisfaction. We have refunded the rent that this customer asked for, and we offer our apologies for her unpleasant experience.
