TuesdayA gentleman called and ask how soon we would be able to look at a 2004 [redacted] that had a crank but no start problem. We told him we were booked out the rest of the week but if he got the vehicle to our shop we would try to work it in. Later that afternoon the AWD car...

was towed in with a strap. We told the gentleman we would try to get it worked in by the next day or so. He said that would be fine. On Thursday in between jobs we were able to look at the vehicle and start to diagnose it. We found that the vehicle had no spark. Further looking we found that there were blown fuses in the fuse panel and no fuse in the space marked for the crank sensor. A fuse was put in it immediately blew out. After our discussion we diagnosed the problem as the crank sensor. The gentleman was then called and was told that we found that it was the crankshaft sensor, which could be delivered the next afternoon. We also told him it was a pretty big job to remove and replace the sensor. He said go ahead and repair the vehicle. Unfortunately when the part was delivered it was the incorrect part. He was called immediately and was told the correct part could not be delivered until Monday. A call was then placed to the gentleman to inform him of the situation and he said that would be okay but they would need the vehicle as soon as possible.Friday afternoon, we started working on the vehicle to get it ready for the arrival of the part Monday morning. Our repair shop utilizes ALLDATA repair as reference on steps to repair as well as flat rate time for repairs.Monday morning we received a call from a female asking when the vehicle would be completed. She was told by that afternoon. We finished the repair of the crankshaft sensor and the vehicle started with no issues. The invoice was created using the ALLDATA flat rate time of 3.0 hours. .1 hour was added for diagnosing the problem, which should be noted is less time than it actually took. We charged halfway between what we paid for the part and the list price. This is a jester of good customer service. A normal shop fee of $10.00 was also charged to the customer. The $10.00 fee covers the costs of supplies used to do the job and is charged to all customers.
Although the crankshaft sensor is located by the timing belt there was no reason to loosen or touch the timing belt, which we did not.
When the repairs were completed, we called the number that was given and there was no answer. A message was left that the repairs were complete and the total bill was $361.89. Later that afternoon a call was received from a man stating to be the father of the owner of the vehicle asking if we accepted credit cards because he was paying the bill. He was given the total charge and he questioned what we did and why it was so expensive. An explanation was given to him stating that we replaced the sensor and that the front of the engine had to be taken off to get to the part to replace it. His credit card information was obtained and the transaction was processed. That was the end of the conversation with this man.
The next morning a call was received from the girl owner of the vehicle. She stated that her car has a hole in the front bumper that was not there when they dropped it off. However, if you will remember they towed the vehicle to our shop with a tow strap behind another vehicle. She stated there were cracks in the front bumper when they dropped it off but not a hole. She also stated at this time that the air conditioning was not working and that it was when they dropped it off. She was told to bring the vehicle back and we would look at it. The car was dropped off that evening after we were closed.
The next morning we brought the vehicle into the shop. The plastic bumper where it was Cracked was folded back in, which was as it was when it arrived at our shop the first time. We pulled out the area in question to match the rest of the bumper. We also found that the problem with the air conditioning was simply a blown fuse and that was replaced and the problem was resolved.
A call was placed to the owner and told her that the vehicle was finished and they could pick it up. The vehicle was picked up on 7/22/2015.
On 7/28/2015 we received a call in the morning that the vehicle had stopped running and that there were 5 codes in the ECM and that one was the crank sensor and that we did not fix her vehicle but charged her $361.89. She also stated that we messed her vehicle up. She was told to get her vehicle to our shop and we would take a look at it. That same evening another guy came in and said they towed the vehicle in. We asked what it was doing. The main said he didn't know anything he just help tow it. The next morning we turned the engine over and heard it spinning fast. We then removed the timing cover and noticed the timing belt had torn.
A decision was made and we refused to fix the vehicle. We came to this decision after dealing with 4 different people, them accusing us of charging too much, damaging the bumper and causing and issue with the air conditioner. A call was placed to the owner stating that the timing belt had torn and it had nothing to do with the installation of the crank sensor and that we were not interested in working on her vehicle again. She was told to come and pick up her vehicle.
Later that day a man called and told us that he is no dummy and he knows that we did not put the car back together correctly and that we needed to make it right. He was told that we did put the car back together and after being accused of charging too much, damaging her vehicle while it was at our shop, somehow making the air conditioner fail and now not installing the sensor properly causing the timing belt to break that we were not going to do any further work and be accused of more wrongdoing.
They came and picked up the vehicle.
In our defense we would like to say that we worked her vehicle into the already booked schedule, repaired the vehicle properly and charged a very fair price. To be accused of damaging a vehicle, breaking the air conditioner, charging too much and finally causing the timing belt to tear a week after we installed the crank sensor is very unfair. We did not touch the timing belt, 2 bolts were taken out of the cover, the faulty sensor removed, new sensor replaced and wiring hooked up and the cover put back in place.
We feel that this complaint is not valid and hope that you will take your time reviewing all of the facts when making your decision.
Southside Auto and Truck Worx has been in business for 5 months and already have a large customer list. We truly believe this is because we are honest, do a good job and charge a very fair price.
Thank you.
