I am writing to alert you of mistreatment to your patients in the emergency room.
On 9/**/2016, I was transported by medical alert ambulance to your facility. I called for assistance due to excruciating pain in my right hip. The medics dressed me prior to bringing me in as I was unable to dress myself due to the pain.
In the emergency room, I was put on a bed in the hallway near the nurses station. The attending EM physician was John Rohe. I advised him the my current medications included 5mg of [redacted] which I take for back pain. I did not recall a fall or injury to my hip and therefore, was not taking anything prescribed for my hip. I was referred for an xray, for which I received a shot of a relaxer medicine and necessary support to be moved to the xray table. Upon completion of the xray I was given a [redacted] which did help the pain a bit. Again, I was stationed in the hallway as I noticed available alcoves, same I noticed available when I arrived. I had to request a urinal and a sheet/blanket for privacy. In addition, I had to request my sugar level be checked, as I had previously informed that I am diabetic. The level was at [redacted] which is high, yet caused no concern. I also requested food as I had been there for a few hours already.
The doctor returned advising that the xray showed no fracture, perhaps there is fluid and would have a orthopedic doctor come to see me. At that time, I had recalled a recent blackout that I incurred back in April or May which could have resulted in the pain I feel now. He responded with “yeah ok.” A bedside manner which I feel is undeserving and unprofessional. He later returned advising that the orthopedic was unable to see me today due to a surgery and to go home. The nurse took visual notice in my discomfort and informed the doctor that I was obviously still in considerable pain. He advised the nurse, in a derogatory tone, to give me another [redacted], “that will take care of him, and give him the name of an orthopedic and a pain management doctor because we don’t treat these things in this hospital.”
While I appreciate the availability of an emergency care facility, and have been a patient here before, I do not appreciate being treated as I was. I am not an abuser of medication. Others were placed in an area of privacy coming in after I was. I remained in the hallway. Upon release I was not even taken out in a wheel chair, which appears to be common procedure.
I did not feel comfortable going to a doctor recommended by this ER physician due to his poor disposition. I would appreciate your concern in this matter. My daughter had been a patient here as well and received similar treatment, inferring she may be a drug addict.
