Spalding Auto Parts Reviews (6)

I've been to a number of junkyards in the past, but these guys blew my lid off!
They had the mirror I needed for my truck and 2 times less expensive then Amazon! Amazing! In great shape too! Also were able to get the tires in almost new condition!
Very pleasant personnel and very attentive and amazingly quick! By the time I backed my truck in to the door to load my tires (which took me whole 30 seconds ), 2 guys were already waiting with my tires in their hands to load them up in my truck!
That was really WOW service!

Review: Sold me a Transfer Case that was no good, under 6 month/unlimited miles warranty. Part failure during first month, Didnt hold up their end of warranty, agreed to have new transfer case shipped and installed then never did. Instead of holding up warranty tried to suffice with check in 1/2 the amount of what ive put out trying to deal with these people, customer service skills lacking!Desired Settlement: The money ive spent driving 120 miles back and fourth multiple times due to their mistakes & Installation costs

Response:

In response to a complaint that has been filed through The Revdex.com on behalf of [redacted], Spalding Auto Parts has addressed this claim by issuing a refund for the full amount of the purchase price.

On or around April 4, 2013, I became aware of a complaint posted to the Revdex.com web site by Mr. [redacted]’s girlfriend complaining about a part they had received from Spalding Auto Parts that was defective. I responded to the posting asking for the customer to contact me directly. Shortly after my posting, I received a call from Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] explained that he had purchased a 1999 GMC half ton truck from Two Way Auto Sales. The truck had been driven for a short period of time by Mr. [redacted] before the transfer case went bad. Upon consulting with Two Way Auto Sales, they agreed to find another transfer case for him. After locating the transfer case, Two Way Auto Sales asked Mr. [redacted] to pick the transfer case up from Spalding Auto Parts. Upon picking up the transfer case, Mr. [redacted] expressed concern over the actual compatibility of the transfer case we were providing him. The reason for his concern was due to the fact that in 1999 there were two options for the transfer case in his application of GMC truck. We had both types in stock. Based on the information we received from Two Way Auto Sales, we provided Mr. [redacted] with the appropriate transfer case and sent him on his way. Mr. [redacted] delivered the transfer case to Auto Haus for installation but was informed shortly afterwards that it was not the correct application. Mr. [redacted] then returned to Spalding Auto Parts to find a price difference of approximately $225 between the one that had been provided and the one he needed. A refund of $375 for the first transfer case was provided to Two Way Auto Sales and the second transfer case was billed out to Two Way Auto Sales for $600. Mr. [redacted] took the transfer case to Auto Haus for installation. A few weeks after receiving the truck back, Mr. [redacted] took the truck to California. On his way back in to Sandpoint the vehicle’s transfer case lost oil. Mr. [redacted] explained that he had to pull the driveline from the transfer case in order to get home. At this point Mr. [redacted] said he was still driving his truck but the loss of oil had made a big mess and he did not have the ability to use four wheel drive. He felt we had provided him with poor customer service, and was upset about needing to install another transfer case. During our conversation Mr. [redacted] explained that he lived in Sandpoint and the costs for transportation from his home to Spokane were getting expensive.

Although it is not uncommon for a transfer case to go bad, it is concerning when a vehicle has two transfer cases go bad in such a short period of time. I do not know the exact time of Mr. [redacted] purchase, but two transfer cases had gone bad within six months of each other in this particular vehicle. During our conversation, Mr. [redacted] had explained that he had driven the vehicle for several hundred miles before the second transfer case lost oil. The excessive loss of oil indicated to me a possible problem with a seal. Our shop manager agreed that a bad seal could cause such a malfunction. During our conversation to investigate the failure of our product it became just as important to identify the reason for the failure of the first transfer case. Did it fail due to wear or was there another factor that was not being addressed? Improper handling of the transfer case during transportation, poor installation practices, excessive yolk wear, and excessive play in the u-joints of the drive line or any balancing issue with a drive line could point to a reason for the failure of a seal. To help address these concerns, a call to Auto Haus would be necessary but first we needed to contact Two Way Auto Sales. They were listed on our receipt as the customer and needed to be informed of the problem. Our conversation with Two Way Auto Sales was appreciated but provided no further information. The conversation with Auto Haus proved to be informative in the fact that the truck had been lifted. This is a term used to describe a process where the body and frame of a vehicle is pushed up. This process creates unnatural angles on the drive line and undue wear on u-joints and/or possible vibrations in the drive train. These conditions can cause the ultimate failure of the part to be installed. For this reason, Auto Haus explained to Mr. [redacted] that no warrantee would be provided for the installation of his part.

After reviewing all the information we could gather about the unfortunate failure of two transfer cases in Mr. [redacted]’s truck, we believe the failure of the second transfer case was due to the loss of fluid through a seal that had failed. We believe the failure of the seal was ultimately due to the truck’s lift and do not believe our product was defective in any manner. We would suggest inspecting the condition of the front and rear drive lines for balance, replacing all u-joints associated with both drive lines and lowering the truck down to normal height before installing a replacement transfer case. We understand these requests may be viewed as unreasonable from the customers’ point of view, and for this reason have provided a full refund instead of a replacement item. We believe this to be extremely fair considering the facts available to us.

A comment was made by Mr. [redacted] as to why we found it necessary to make the refund check out to Two Way Auto Sales instead of directly to him? Our warrantee is not transferable. If you purchase a part from Spalding Auto Parts and then sell your vehicle, the warrantee on that part is voided. Spalding Auto Parts believes our warrantee to be the stated minimum of what we will do to help provide a great experience with our company and staff. We value the patronage of both Two Way Auto Sales and Mr. [redacted]. For this reason, even though we feel our part and services were free from any defect, we felt it to be of good will not necessity to provide a refund. According to our receipt and payment records, Two Way Auto Sales was billed and did pay for the transfer case. For this reason we felt the refund check should be given to them.

I needed a throttle body for my Nissan truck. I found Spalding on Ebay, and they had the part I was looking for. The part was delivered today, 3 days before estimated arrival time! Business the old fashion way, legit!!!!! Thanks guys, you will be the first place I check for hard to find parts...Look forward to doing further business in the future.

I went to Spalding Auto Parts to purchase a part for my door to make the window work. I was selling the car and the lady would not purchase it without the window fixed. I was really having a hard time getting help to fix the window. When I went to Spaldings to buy the part, I jokingly mentioned that it would be wonderful if they could help me install it. I was amazed when the gentleman said that he would install it for me. It took him about 45 minutes and he also put the door back together for me. I was so happy that someone took the time to help me get this done, when I was having such a hard time getting help. Can’t believe that they did this for me, I was definitely amazed and a very very happy customer that this guy went out of his way to help me. THANK YOU SPALDING AUTO PARTS.

I highly recommend this business. I live in British Columbia, Canada, and the particular import part I needed could not be found here. Looking online I had a few bad experiences in trying to get this part in the US. I came across Spalding Auto Parts & they were able to find the part for me very quickly, and at a great price. Very professional and very trust worthy company. I recommend this company very highly.

Spaldings is a very awesome place for all your auto parts needs. Went in looking for some parts and not knowing what they were called, they quickly got them to me and knew exactly what I needed at very affordable pricing. The staff is very nice as well. Will be back for ALL of my auto parts needs in the future.
