Review: I ([redacted]) am submitting this complaint on behalf of my mother - - my mother contacted Spangler to obtain pricing on installing two powder room vanities, two mirrors, linoleum in both powder rooms, install lights. By the time I learned about her contact with Spangler, he had begun work. I learned he had given my mother a price of $2700 (cash only) to do this work. When I asked him about the pricing, he said that's what they agreed to. I explained to him my mother has hard time hearing and remembering. He did not provide any type of estimate, nor would he provide one to me. He had begun work by time I was involved. I asked why he requested cash when we would need an estimate and a credit card or check receipt. He agreed and later in the day he was very brash and disrespectful and said he wanted to get paid. He explained he had been burned by others and only dealt in cash transactions. I told him my understanding of cash transactions was avoiding tax implications along with being paid under the table. He could not give me any reason for charging this amount, when in fact, my mother purchased all supplies, he supplied nothing. He had two other gentlemen with him to do this job. After several calls and visit to bank, after he told me "I understand your mother's situation, but we agreed to cash, and that's what I want". At this point, I felt threatened and wanted him out of my mother's home. I spoke with several other contractors who indicated this amount, for supplies purchased by homeowner, was way out of line. Additionally, I feel he preyed upon my mother's age when dealing with her. There was no price quote nothing in writing, until I told him I wanted it for future use. What he supplied was very generic and confusing.Desired Settlement: We are requesting a reimbursement of $1800 for preying on an elderly person unable to hear and comprehend and overcharging for work due to supplies not purchased by Spangler.
