Sparkle Clean Laundry and Dry Cleaners Reviews (1)

On 09/22/2015 at approx. 2:50 Pm [redacted] brought a gray silk [redacted] sport coat tomy dry cleaners. Our invoice number is [redacted].It had general soil on it including numerous black spots. The black spot were also on the leftshoulder/arm area. The coat was dry cleaned per the...

manufacture instructions in a standard K-4 drycleaning machine. Upon removal from the dry clean machine at the end of the cleaning cycle there were2 color loss spots on the left shoulder/arm area. The 1 color loss spot was 3"x3.5" and had a black spotin the middle of it. The other was smaller. It appears someone had scrubbed/rubbed the area in anattempt to remove the spot, prior to us cleaning the coat. If someone were to scrub/rub an area, evenwith just a damp cloth, on a delicate material such as silk, it will abrade the dyes and fibers in the fabricwithout leaving a visible trace of damage. When the garment is dry cleaned those disturbed dyes will beflushed away from the material leaving a color loss spot. Dry cleaning, contrary to popular belief, isactually a liquid cleaning solution that the garments are fully immersed in, extracted and dried. I haveenclosed a technical bulletin that describes this problem. Mr. [redacted] was also given a copy of thisbulletin. His reply was "I don't care what a piece of paper says".Our procedure regardless of the amount of soil or stains is to dry clean a garment first and see whatcomes out and then work on any remaining stains. As a professional dry cleaner we NEVER scrub anyspots/stains on a dry cleanable garment, even on a durable fabric such as cotton. If a stain doesn't comeout in the cleaning process we would then use a liquid pre-spotting agent. We have a wide variety ofpre-spotting agents that we employ to break down stains, so we have no need to "scrub" a stain. Wewould apply a couple of drops directly to the stain, let it soak and reclean it. On delicate fabrics such assilk, if we have to get more aggressive in an attempt to remove the stain, we would call the customer toget a release in case damage occurs. In the case of Mr. [redacted]'s coat, once the coat was drycleaned and we saw the color loss spots, we took no further cleaning or prespotting action. Even if acouple of drops of pre-spotting agent were used, as the customer is saying, it would not take the colorout of such a large area. This coat was clearly scrubbed by someone prior to cleaning thereby causingthis damage. As a dry cleaner we have no idea what a customer has done to their garment with regardto attempted stain removal, prespotting or even what ordinary chemicals they come in contact with. Allof which can cause invisible damage which only manifests itself once the garment is cleaned. Justbecause it happens while we cleaned it doesn't mean we did something negligent in cleaning orhandling the garment. This is the case with Mr. [redacted]'s coat. I spoke to him 3 times over the last 3months to no avail. I've explained the above facts and been truthful about the situation and he refusesto consider or accept the facts. I can't change the facts or truth, it is what it is. I did waive the cleaningcharge as a courtesy to him. With regard to the $800 value of the coat. [redacted] and fashion designer [redacted] teamed upto develop the [redacted] clothing line in 1998 in Whitehall Pa. The [redacted] clothing line hasnow been out of business for well over 10 years. There are NO retail stores that sell this clothing line. There are however used clothing stores that sell preowned sport coats. I only found 2 preowned %100silk [redacted] sport coats for sale. Both were listed on EBay, 1 for $34.62 and the other for $40/Bo. Ihave enclosed the listing sheet for the 1 closest to Mr. [redacted]'s for $34.62. My employee recallsMr. [redacted] stating he got this at a used clothing store. She thinks he said it was the Salvation Armyor the Samaritan center which is just down the road from us. We stand by our cleaning and the servicewe provide. If we make a mistake we take responsibility for it and make it right to the customer. We callour customer and make them aware of our mistake prior to them coming in. We don't hide it and hopethey don't notice it. However we cannot take responsibility for something we did not do or have nocontrol over, such as a customer doing something to their garment prior to us cleaning it. With that inmind I am unable to make any type of restitution for Mr. [redacted]'s sport coat as we did nothingwrong or negligent in the cleaning or handling of his coat. Please forward this documentation and letterto Mr [redacted] as he stated he wants no further communication from me. Thank you for your time.[redacted]President
