Spartan Van Lines Reviews (%countItem)

Worst moving experience ever!
First, they didn't pick up everything. Then trying to get a response regarding the date our stuff would arrive was next to impossible. When they finally did deliver our stuff, there were many items with significant damage. Then they tried to significantly under value our claim. Once we agreed on the amount, the release that they gave us had a requirement that was not in any part of the contract...we had to agree not to post anything negative about them on any platform. Way to violate our right to free speech under the first amendment to the constitution!

BUYER BEWARE...DO NOT USE SPARTAN VAN LINES

We hired Spartan Van Lines to move us from our apartment in SF to our new home in SOCAL. When the movers arrived, I was stressed out because the apartment building management failed to put the elevator on service, as booked, and took their time getting someone out. The movers were relaxed and said this usually happens. They began planning, furniture wrapping, etc., so by the time the elevator was ready, the first load of stuff was good to go.

The team worked very diligently and efficiently. It was impressive. They were complete professionals. Significantly, they had a positive attitude. I was worried about some fragile items, e.g., a large plasma TV, but it was all handled well.

I would definitely recommend Spartan Van Lines, my sales rep was Mercedes and she was amazing! Our foreman was Elmer, and he conducted himself very well during a stressful time for us!

Thank you Spartan for a great move!

I would recommend to anyone!
Fast, compassionate, CAREFUL!
Thank you to this team as a hole for being welcoming, helpful, and hard working. After being nervous and stressed out you made this transition a whole lot easier and time efficient. Would definitely recommend to anyone I know moving in the future!

I had an OK pick-up experience and a very very unpleasant delivery. My move was an interstate move so I can’t comment on a local move. I would suggest avoiding the company based on my experience: 1. The company uses 18 Wheelers to deliver and they charge you an additional $500ish shuttle service fee if an 18 wheeler can't get to your address. In my case, I live in a large, open-access apartment complex with easy access and plenty of parking space. The driver insisted he can’t drive in and charged me $200 for long carry. I wonder how many neighborhoods are built with 18 wheelers accessibility in mind???? 2. They collect all payments before they start unloading. Once you pay the delivery guy, he starts acting unprofessionally and disrespectfully. In my case, the guy shouted at me when I asked him to check if all the listed items are here together with me. The reason he shouted is that he thinks I am doing nothing. Then he called his manager, put his manager on speaker, asked if it’s my job or his job to check all the items are here, and the two started telling me “I need to do my job” after I paid them $4500 for moving. 3. They find local movers to help. If the local mover don't show up, there's only one driver unloading everything and it takes LONG time. In my case, the driver was the only one unloading my stuff and he yelled at me that I’m “sitting there doing nothing” when I’m on a conference call because I had to leave work and accommodate the mover’s schedule. Very unprofessional and disrespectful. 4. They do not put baby furniture (cribs, etc) together due to safety concerns. This is understandable. Make sure you double check they have all the screws/nails for the baby furniture shipped/unloaded.

The least professional company I've ever been involved with on any level. The initial appeal was a cost savings which ended up not saving me anything compared to a legitimate professional operation. Failed to communicate at every opportunity. Showed up at 9 pm when my window was 11-1 leaving me twisting me in the wind all day due to their failure to adequately plan their logistics. They had no clue regarding the whereabouts the cross country driver. Failed to secure necessary paperwork to enter my building . The team that showed up and attempted to extort cash insisting they only took cash and not credit. Yet all my payments with them were only credit card. Just stay away. Not worth any savings.

STAY AWAY!
I enlisted their services on my move from *** to *** on 06/12/2019 and I regret ever doing so.
At first things looked good as their prices were quite competitive and having spoken to *** in setting up the move was quite painless as she was very knowledgeable and through. Then as the day came, the movers came and initiated their work. Again, they were quite fast and efficient. Though this is where it all went downhill and eventually plummeted into a pit of nastiness.
As the movers were finishing placing the last of my things into their truck, I had told several of their workers that a particular suitcase will not be going onto the truck because it contained clothes and more importantly, my medication that I would need to hold me over until the rest of my things arrived in ***. I had even put it aside apart from everything else just to make sure. I had a friend and a family member seeing me off so I was off in the back yard with my service dog as so we would be out of their way. When they had everything on the truck, I signed the paperwork and was preparing for my drive to ***. Unfortunately, I had noticed that my suitcase was missing. I immediately picked up my phone and called customer service. No one picked up and so I had left a message. I had called several other departments and no one answered. It was getting late and so I decided to continue with my trip to ***.
Two days later, I am just hours away from my new place in ***, when I finally get a call from *** from customer service. She spent most of her time trying to explain to me how it wasn’t her fault that she didn’t get my message. I was so tired that I wasn’t paying much attention. I am a combat veteran who is 100% disabled with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTS (post-traumatic stress) and suffer from chronic fatigue because of the disabilities and so long distance driving is incredibly hard for me. I eventually get to my destination and now the waiting game begins for my stuff to arrive.
According to the contract, they have within 14 business days to deliver your property. They took their sweet time and waited till the LAST DAY, which was almost a month later. During that time I had to spend hundreds of dollars on clothes and had one hell of a time trying to get my meds prescribed to me from the local VA. Until my meds arrived, I hardly got a wink of sleep on top of the regular headaches and migraines that were amplified by the lack of sleep. So not only did they wait until the last day of their 14 business day, they were a day late and ended up delivering on July 4th.
The sliding down a steep and slippery hill wasn’t the end and now we plummet into a world of ***, supposed owner of the company, was asking me if an 18 wheeler would fit into the apartment complex. “I have absolutely no experience with 18 wheelers and why the hell would you be asking me this? I thought that you and your drivers were supposed to do their homework to see if they’d be able to fit?” Is exactly what I told him. It was what *** had told me in the beginning on how their drivers were supposed to do their “homework” to see if an 18 wheeler would fit. If no then expect to pay at least an extra $500 for a smaller truck so that they could get in. Back in the Corps, you tell a bunch of Marines to get an 18 wheeler into a spot and complete a mission... you better believe that we’d get the job done.
So it’s July 4th. I had to cancel my plans to spend with my family that day so I could finally receive my property. Come to find that there were a lot of damage done. I had surfboards that had survived the trip from Hawaii and to several other places totally unscathed only to have my 6 footer damaged beyond repair and my 12 footer long board with a damaged nose. This along with my $3000 custom built PC I had mentioned to *** as to being valuable. She assured me that the movers would take care of it. NEGATIVE. The lead mover that initially came to pack my things told me that they didn't have a box and so he would have to “come up with something”. When it came off the truck, I couldn’t recognize it. When I finally got to unwrap it, it was sitting on it’s backside. For those of you who know about PC’s they are quite fragile and you can’t have it jostled around because of the internal components. Well, let me tell you that there were NO stickers that labeled it as fragile, or do not stack, or right side up. So now my PC won’t start.
There were other items that were broken, a few cups and the board that runs down the center of my bed was broken in half. There was tape on it as if whoever broke it actually tried to fix it but obviously failed and also failed to report this to the company.
But wait folks... it gets better! My bed and a very heavy and expensive kitchen table had to be disassembled for the move. When the other movers unpacked my things, they found out that the mounting hardware was nowhere to be found. Seriously... who would ever disassemble something then pack away the hardware needed for reassembly in a completely different place and not have it in a bag taped up to whatever they belonged to. The “owner” *** then tells me a story on how he had to order parts from Turkey to put something else together for a customer that had gone through the same thing. Obviously they didn’t learn from that experience and they won’t learn from mine. They just want your money and they’re done with you.
The story doesn’t end there. I had emailed the company on 07/08/2019, the Monday after the holiday weekend. *** had said that they would take care of “making things right” when *** from customer service comes back from her vacation. So I send them a few emails with photos of damage and my expressing my displeasure of their services and wait... and wait... and wait... that Friday, with still no response, I finally send them another email and finally I get a response from *** with a very canned response and asking for more details. Details that I had already given them from the previous emails. You would think that there would be a follow up to this. One would think that any RESPONSIBLE company would try and do the right thing and follow up with a customer that had pretty much everything go wrong with the service that they provide. WRONG. It is now the 2nd week since I had sent the first emails out to them and they have yet to contact me on their own time. If this type of behavior persists, I will start looking at legal action.
I had spent nearly ten years in the military and had dealt with many professional moving services. I had not ONE item misplaced or broke... oh by the way... I am missing a chair and I also have someone else's large box of goods that don’t belong to me! I have never, EVER seen this lack of professionalism and total disregard of the customer. Just STAY AWAY from this company.
If anyone is interested message me and I can provide more information and or photos.

Spartan moved my stuff from *** stored everything in their warehouse for three months, and then delivered it all to *** It was all very easy to arrange with the office. The movers arrived at the agreed-upon time at both ends of the move, worked steadily throughout the day and displayed a cheerful attitude. They were thorough and careful with my belongings. I would recommend them highly.

Excellent service by *** team. We have been using them from about 5 years and *** has always ensured that our move was smooth whether it was across cities, state or streets.

Thank you for your comment. Best wishes in your new home.

Very professional and great communication throughout my cross country move. Did exactly what they stated they would do and no hidden costs or delays. Both pickup and delivery crews were great. Very satisfied all around.

Thank you for your review. Best wishes in your new home.

Great service

Overall good experience. No major issues, everything packed up and delivered as promised. One star less because they gave dates for expected arrival and then moved them back a few more days, which was annoying - but all within the stated range of when I could expect delivery.

Great service.

Very Fast & Efficient

They were the best. I moved out of California last Sept. 2017. I have never attempted such a long move. The move was coast to coast Cali to NC. The movers on both ends were great the final cost was what I was quoted in the beginning. Everything was disassembled and reassembled just like they said it would be. They arrived when they were scheduled. The best part is that there was no quibbling at my destination over price etc. Professional all the way. They did not harass me day and night about before I settled on them as my movers. They came out and actually did an visual estimate which was great as there was no hidden fees. The the moving team *** was my moving consultant and *** Dispatch Department *** Moving Consultant *** Customer Service Manager The contract drivers name I do not remember and the destination unloader a gentleman who went by the name *** were friendly professional quick and on time!!!!
I did not know just how great they were until my sister moved from NJ to NC 2 weeks later. She had a a two month old with medical needs and a toddler. not only were her movers late, they held her furniture hostage until they were paid the overage costs that were in no way mentioned in the estimate or contract. She was in tears and the whole move was horrible for her family.
I prayed for a good mover and Spartan was the answer to those prayers!!! Thank you Spartan and the whole moving team!!!!

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to assist you. Being on your mind months after the move is quite rewarding. Your satisfaction is the greatest recognition our family owned business could have. Best wishes in your new home.

This company is unbelievable. They were one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. I hired them to help with a move from the West Coast to the East Coast. Stressful enough in itself. I was very clear with what I was moving, when I was moving and I kept them updated along the way. Worked with them for just over 7 weeks. Then 3 days before they are supposed to move me they start changing the story telling me they need to send someone out to see exactly what I have, but oh, wait, they do not have anyone to send out! I was told from the beginning that they would not send anyone out to do an estimate on a storage unit. I numbered each and every box, sent photos of my furniture that was being moved. Everyone one around me saw how thorough, diligent and organized I was being on this move. I informed the woman that was “helping” me through Spartan exactly what was going on. If they had recorded the calls they would know. She kept asking me the same questions over and over. Then 3 days before they are supposed to pick up my stuff it becomes a total nightmare with them in communication! I was frustrated with them for very good reason. I was not listened to and they blamed me for the whole non (mis) communication and took no responsibilty for their non action in this whole experience. I had to last minute use another moving service. Unbievable to me that this company recieves so many 5 star reviews! Would not recommend them to anyone!

the customer did not move with us.
we didn't collect any income from the customer.
we offers to send an estimator and where refused.
at that point the customer was very abusive to our phone representatives and to myself.
when she wouldn't change her abusive behavior we had to refuse her business.
we didn't charge her any money.
thank you

Excellent moving company. Everyone I dealt with over the phone or in person was kind and professional. I recently moved from California to Arizona and Spartan Van Lines gave me one of the lowest quotes. There were no hidden fees or surprises. All the furniture was wrapped thoroughly. They number all of your possessions with stickers and have you check everything off as they unload. Nothing missing and nothing broken. I would happily use this company again for future moves.

Excellent service, really professional crew, will definitely hire them whenever I plan to move again

I have nothing but good things to say about this comoany. They were on time, Fast and efficient, took great care of me and my items, great team members from beginning to end, no damages and had a much better price than other movers were offering and they did way more.
