May 8, 2015Dear [redacted]We at Special Education Resources LLC (SER), The Children's Evaluation & Therapy Center, regret that our client has chosen to lodge a complaint with the Revdex.com. However, the information he has provided to you is not complete and fails to give you all the details which led to the credit card charge.
The client and his child came to our center to have his child evaluated for speech therapy in October 2014. With him, as with all our clients, he was given a lengthy orientation where SER's policies and procedures were explained to him. One policy that was explained to the client was that should his insurance fail to pay for any service, for any reason, he would be responsible. His insurance was checked by SER and at that time the available information indicated his insurance carrier would pay for his child's evaluation. During the orientation the client also completed a document providing SER with his credit card information and giving SER the authority to charge his credit card should he fail to pay for services rendered within seven (7) days.His child was evaluated in October 2014 but was not recommended for speech therapy. The claim was filed with his insurance carrier. As with all insurance companies it can take from one month to three months to receive an explanation of benefits (EOB). Also, with all insurance carriers, the information provided to SER or to the subscriber via the telephone or that is found at their web site, are guidelines until the claim is filed. Once the claim is received and reviewed by the insurance carrier the insurance carrier determines if the charge for the services rendered will be honored. In December 2014 SER received an EOB from the client's insurance carrier that explained his child's evaluation was not a covered service and made the entire $660.00 charge his responsibility. The client also received the same EOB from his insurance carrier. The charge was reduced by $175,00 and the client was sent a statement totaling $485.00 by SER in December 2014 for the evaluation. SER did not receive payment and another statement was sent in January 2015. SER did not receive any response from the client and the bill was sent to collections. At that time his account was more than three months in arrears. SER is, and must be, very diligent in collecting its receivables. Therefore, SER decided to exercise its right to charge the client’s credit card.
As we suggested to him, the client has filed an appeal with his insurance carrier. And as we discussed with him, should he win his appeal and his insurance carrier pays for the evaluation, he would be reimbursed by SER for any out-of-pocket expenses he would be due.
