Review: I purchased a 1994 Jeep Cherokee from [redacted], who said he was [redacted] of the shop. I asked him if there was anything wrong with it and he said no, the engine is good, the transmission is good, it just has some cosmetic damage. When I test drove the car, it seemed to run well, [redacted], said 'everything runs well, it passed inspection, it's just got some body work that you could do' etc.I gave him a deposit of 400$ for the car and made arrangements to pick it up on Friday, October **. During the week, he called me and asked me to come and get the car sooner that he really needed the money. He said he'd do the bodywork on the car for 400$. I agreed and made arrangements to meet him with the rest of the money to pick up the car on Wednesday, October, *.When I arrived, it wasn't painted and was not ready to drive. After much discussion on the phone (he never came to the shop) he kept asking for the rest of the money. I told him to call me when the bodywork was done & I would pay him the rest of the money.I paid cash for the car on Friday night, 10/**/2013. By the time I got it home, there was a loud knocking, pinging sound coming from the engine and it was misfiring. The warmer the car got, the louder the noises became. I took the car to my mechanic the following morning, Saturday, 10/**/2013. My mechanic told me that the crank shaft bearings are bad and Catalytic Converter is bad.I contacted [redacted] & told him I needed to return the car. He refused.I am currently out the 2500$ I paid for this car. He said I'd have to sue him to get any money back. Eventually, he conceded that he would pick up the car at his convenience and return me only 1900$.It was very difficult to get him to take my calls & I'm not confident he is going to pick up this car. It is difficult to contact him, he's combative and insists that there is nothing wrong with the car. He also insists on keeping the money for the body work.Desired Settlement: I would like to get *all* of the money I paid for this car.

At this time, I have not been contacted by Specialty Auto Service Body & Sales Inc. regarding complaint ID [redacted].

I have also followed up by filing a complaint with NYS DMV. According to them, the car sold to me by this individual through this company
