I am writing in response to a letter I received from the Revdex.com regarding a complaint filed by [redacted].  Ms. [redacted] came in to our store rented a triathlon bike from us.  That is what she requested to rent, it was not based on a staff recommendation.  She elected to rent for a...

weekend which was $150.  We do not take a security deposit on the rentals.  We charge the rental fee and retain a signed contract/waiver that clearly states that the renter's credit card will be charged for all damage.
Ms. [redacted] took the bike without issue.  She unfortunately crashed on the bike.  It appears that she ran through some mud or dirt since the bike came back very dirty.  She damaged the carbon base bar of the bike, the brake lever and the shifters.  All of those items must be replaced for the bike to safely operate.  The front wheel will also need to be straightened.  She also chipped some paint on the bike which we are not requesting compensation for.
When Ms. [redacted] returned the bike the store was very busy.  The salesperson that took the bike in noted the damaged brake lever immediately, since it was the most visibly damaged item on the bike.  Ms. [redacted] was charged for that and refunded the remaining amount of her rental since she did not take it for the entire week.  The bike was scheduled for inspection by one of our two mechanics for later in the week.
Damaged rentals are scheduled as repairs in our computer system.  The mechanic that inspected the bike noted that the carbon base bar was cracked from the crash, the shifters needed to be replaced and the front wheel needed to be straightened.  Bryce, the mechanic, called Ms. [redacted] to explain.  Obviously she was not happy about learning of the damage the same way we weren't happy to have to fix all of the damage she caused.
Ms. [redacted] didn't want to pay for the damage so I had to call.  I told her specifically what was damaged to the bike and that she was responsible for paying.  She admitted to causing the damage, so I was surprised when she refused to pay for the damage.  Pursuant to the rental agreement, we attempted to charge her card for the repairs as we are authorized to do under the agreement.  We are not, in any way, continuing to attempt to try and charge the card.
I received a phone call from Ms. [redacted]' father about the issue.  Per his request, I sent an invoice listing out the damage and the needed repairs.  We informed the [redacted] that they are responsible for the damage and they acknowledge that she crashed and caused them.  It's a very simple issue.  Ms. [redacted] crashed and damaged our bike.  We are simply trying to collect for the damage she caused.  They were offered a chance to come and inspect the damage she caused.
The last communication came from my law office indicating that should she not pay for the damage we would have no other choice than to sue for the damages we have to pay to fix.  It's an unfortunate situation for all involved.  Ms. [redacted] crashed, that's not something we want anyone to go through.  However, she caused damage to our product and all we are trying to do it collect for the damages she caused, nothing more.  The bicycle cannot be put back into service until the items are repaired.  Since she caused the damage she needs to pay for them, period.
Should you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.
