I went there to have my brakes fixed, but by the time they finished I could not move my car.I went there to get my brakes changed, but by the time they finished my car would not move. They refused to fix their error unless I paid them over 500.00. My car was working fine and the only thing that was wrong is that the brakes pads needed to be changed. I am not sure what they did to make the car not move, but I feel that I was scammed because I am young and did not have one of my parents with me. I had to take all of my savings and give it to them, so I could drive back home. Desired Settlement500 is too much, since they were only supposed to be changing my brakes. I want a refund for the amount that I over paid, because they messed my car up and strong armed me to get more money that I could not afford to pay.Business Response I am sorry that you feel you have been "scammed" by my business and moreover due to your age. I assure you that has not happened here. I'd like to start with saying that your version of the events is a little different from what my manager and techs have stated to me and what appears to have happened when I look at our video system from when you were in. I was told that you came to SpeeDee with your rear brakes grinding very badly. We pulled your car in, lifted it up on the lift and took the tires off to VISUALLY assess the problem and estimate the job. You were told that you had driven so long with the brakes grinding that the brake pad and rotor had worn so thin that the pad itself had come out of it's housing within the caliper and was sitting at an angle jammed with it's edge against the rotor and with the caliper itself now pressing on the rotor as well. You were told that this was in the worst possible shape and that the brake would likely lock up on you at any moment. We told you it would be around $320 to do the job if you did not need a new brake caliper and an additional $225 if you did. You said you didn't want the service so we put the tires back on, lowered the car and backed it out. YET YOU ARE CLAIMING THAT WE WERE "FINISHED" DOING YOUR BRAKES. You came back saying it wouldn't move. Actually it wouldn't move very freely in reverse because the pad was lodged against the rotor at such an angle. After an hour or so you decided to have us do the job. We removed and replaced the brake caliper, the brake rotors and the brake pads with top quality OEM specified parts and gave you our standard 12 month-12,000 warranty on parts and labor. The job came out a little less than we quoted you. I am assuming that you finally came in the have it looked at because when the pad got jammed the way it did it would have made the grinding that had been going on for weeks even worse. We have saved your old pads rotors and caliper. They are grinded down worse than any I have personally ever seen. I have pictures of the parts for anyone who would like to see them. Whether you are 19 or 90 years old, have your parents with you or not, your car needed new rear brakes and rotors and was neglected to the point that you needed the caliper too. You were not sold items that you did not need nor were you over charged for the service you needed and we completed. Both of these issues can be confirmed in many ways.Consumer Response I hope that other people take the time to research before using them. Furthermore, My mom has been there and stated that she took in a coupon for an oil change for 16.oo, but you guys tried to charge her 40.00! She told me that you decided to charge her the amount of the coupon only after she stated that she would pay the amount and then report you for bad business practices. She stated that the one of the guys started yelling at her and then ran to the back. You guys also left her computer in her car and parked it around back with the door open. When she asked you not to do that and tried to go lock her door someone followed her to the car like she was going to take off even though you still had her keys. She told me that she will never go there again and was upset that I did, because the same services could have been done for half the price at another store. It is okay, I will just consider this a life lesson. I will never use your services again.Final Business Response Well this is now a brand new issue from the first. In response, SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service has never had a coupon in circulation for a $16.00 oil change. We have only ever ran $5, $7 and $10 off coupons in the [redacted] and [redacted] packets in the past 10 years. One of our competitors used to run a $16.90 coupon for for an oil change that was by appointment only. You must have us confused with them.

Made $500 in repairs to car without communicating cost to customer. Blamed customer for not asking about price.I took my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback to the SpeeDee Automotive Store for a basic tune-up on Saturday July 9th at 12:00 PM. [redacted] (manager) told me that he would check my vehicle to determine if a tune-up was needed, and that he would call me by 1:15 PM about the status of the check-up.[redacted] never called, and when I went by the store that evening, my car was locked in the shop. The store was closed on Sunday so I stopped by Monday morning (8:00 AM) when they opened to speak to[redacted]. He told me that he would call me back at 9:15 AM to alert me of the status of my car. At 10:00 AM, he called and said "good news, nothing is wrong like I had assumed, I just needed to change a spark plug so I can now go forward with your tune-up. Your car will be available for pick up at lunch time". I went to the store to pick my car up under the assumption that I would be charged for the spark plug replacement and the basic $69.99 tune-up that I had originally requested. My bill came out to $458... I only had $307.71 in my bank account, and had I known that the job would have cost me $458, I would not have had it done. When I explained that to[redacted] his response was "well it's your fault that you didn't ask for the price on the phone". So not only was my car held in the shop over the weekend without being told, they went ahead and made almost $400 in repairs along with the original tune-up that I had requested.[redacted] told me that he could charge me $300, if I could come back later and pay the rest of the amount. In a bind, I obliged and paid the amount but now I am broke for this mis-communication on their part. The fact that they would not alert a customer of nearly $500 in changes that are being made to their car is ridiculous, and I want as much of my money back as possible. I do not mind paying for the tune-up that I had originally visited the store for but I should not have to give up all of the money in my bank account for the *multiple* spark plugs and wires that were changed and not properly communicated to me.Desired SettlementI would like to be refunded the amount of money that it cost for labor/parts in regards to the repair of wires and spark plugs in my car. I will pay the amount of the tune-up and the labor that was required for just the tune-up.More info from consumer:The business has contacted me, and they have provided me with a full refund.Thank you.
