I had paid for two months additional storage on May 7 for Jun12-Jul12 $258.00. On 4 Jun we participated in a neighbor hood garage sale and were able to empty out our storage unit. During 6-9 Jun I went to the office to request a refund of one month. Talked to "Charlie" who told me that the company did not refund. During 13-15 Jun I went back to the office and was told by Kyle, the office mgr that if I had come in two days earlier he could refund but now he could not. I explained that I had talked to "Charlie" the week previously and told me the company would not. Kyle told me he would call higher management and "check on it" but that was the last I heard from him. No Refund! Someone is lying or perhaps just less than honest.

I had planned to write a positive review for Southwest Housing, but cannot, and can no longer recommend them to the dozens of people I know looking for housing in Springfield, MO.

[redacted], one of the owners, went out of her way to make sure everything was in good order both when I moved in and out. She followed up with me on repairs needed, etc, and I very much appreciate her time and attention to every little detail. She was wonderful to work with.

The problem is that she told me at the beginning and end of the lease that $[redacted]. would be taken out of my deposit of $[redacted]. for cleaning, and instead, [redacted], the other owner, took out $[redacted]., charging me an extra $[redacted]. for 3 rooms of carpet cleaning for carpet that I left in excellent condition, just as I had found it. Neither of them ever mentioned carpet cleaning would be charged. Like most businesses, I expected the landlord to cover carpet cleaning unless it was damaged and dirty. It wasn't. I took great care of the carpet as I do in my own home. I had also talked with [redacted] about the deposit just a couple of days before I left, and he said $[redacted]. would be taken out for cleaning. Instead he took $[redacted].

I called [redacted] to resolve this issue and he insisted I pay for carpet cleaning. I told him I wanted to write a good review, but could not if he didn't refund the extra $[redacted]. he took from my deposit. I told him that I had just checked with [redacted] and she said $[redacted]. would be taken out and that I'd get $[redacted]. out of my $[redacted]. back. Instead, [redacted] wrote the check for $[redacted]. [redacted] said he won't refund the money, and I told him they were misleading and going against what they'd told me all along if they did not.

This is deceptive and not a best practice for a business. It is misleading, and $[redacted]. is a lot of money for them keep after stating all along that the cleaning charge would only be $[redacted]. Southwest Housing needs to remedy this problem, do what [redacted] told me they would do, and return the $[redacted]. they took from me. If they return the money, I will recommend them to the dozens of college students and their families, and graduate students I know who are looking for housing in Springfield.
