At the start of the job for *** ***, *** *** *** *** ** ***, pointed out a board that was on the outside (load bearing) wall that needed to be replacedAgainst my professional recommendation, Ms*** said that she didn't want to pay for the building permit and labor to have
this doneI noted to her that the damage to the stud board was from the original house builder -- they had chipped the front side of the board all the way down making it no longer straightI also noted to Ms*** that in order to get a 100% flat surface to affix brand new tile, the board needed to be replacedAs noted above, she declinedMs*** and I discussed about "floating" the wall to level it and get as close to flat as possibleMs*** approved this fix and we began the work.In addition to my services, Ms*** contracted an outside plumberThis individual plumed the tub faucet to the height of the wood deck and NOT the height of the finished tile (resulting in the plumbing needing to be redone)After realizing the shoddy work by the plumber, Ms*** said that I should have put an access panel on both side so the plumber could fix his WorkThe plumbing work had nothing to do with the quality of the tile jobMs*** was trying to be a contractor, but didn't do any of the steps to make sure her sub's did what they Were Suppose to.Ms*** frequently changed her mind on the accent tile - she went through four changesAfter applying her final tile choice to the back of the niche, she changed her mind againI was okay with tearing out the work and restarting, as long as she paid for it (since it was her decision)I presented Ms*** a contract addendum, but she refused to sign itAs a small business owner, I rely on word of mouth from my customers - and I would never do work that the homeowner did not sign off on.Another issue was the floor grout colorMs*** has a stained glass window over the tub, which - depending on time of day, sunlight, etc-- changes the light all over the bathroomMs*** was not happy with the grout color - she said it did not appear to be the same color as the sample grout and not the same thought out the floorThis was because of the lighting once controlled the light and showed her the color was the same, she still wanted the grout reapplied.Ms*** is an unhappy customer by her own choosing - the plumbing issue and the stain glass making the grout color changes are out of my controlUltimately, Ms*** signed a contract for work contracted and did not pay for the work completedAfter multiple attempts to collect payment, I was faced with no other choice but to file alien on the propertyIf Ms*** would like the lien released, she needs to pay the full amount she is contractually obligated to pay.Spencer Remodeling*** ***|Owner

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Mr. [redacted] told me that leveling the shower wall would require a building permit, which, in his estimate, would take several weeks and cost a considerable amount of money. He seemed to think that he could get the wall fairly level by floating the wall. However, his method of repair resulted in a bowed wall and sagging tile. The contractor who took over the project was able to level wall by attaching a new 2x4 to the existing 2x4. Additionally the tile install in the shower had excessive lippage and had to be torn out by the new contractor. Mr. [redacted] insisted that I have the plumbers set the drop in tub after he had built the tub box before tiling the tub deck. When he attempted to install tile on the tub deck, I witnessed him using a crowbar under the edge of the tub and forcing the tile under the tub rim. Per the NTCA, the proper way is to install the tile on the tub deck before setting the drop in tub. His lack of this knowledge resulted in the tub being taken out and reset after the tiling was completed.
There were a few issues with the plumbers, however, the company stood behind their reputation and made sure any mistakes were promptly addressed. I would highly recommend the company to anyone. Changing my mind on the accent tile had nothing to do with the quality of work performed. He never presented me with a contract addendum at any time.Regarding the floor grout, the joints were not filled properly during the application, which caused a depression. Mr. [redacted] said he would re grout over the existing grout, however, the NTCA clearly recommends cleaning out the grout joints to an acceptable depth prior to regrouting. If this is not done properly the new grout will not adhere. I am an unhappy customer because Mr. [redacted]'s workmanship did not meet the standards expected from a professional contractor. To reiterate, the issues raised by Mr. [redacted] in his response are moot points in relation to the quality of work performed. I have attached several pictures as evidence. At the time I dismissed him, my husband and I offered to negotiate a settlement with him of which he refused. We have not had any direct contact since. We have completed the project by the replacement of the defective and incomplete work of Spencer Remodeling utilizing the services of [redacted], and the costs associated with that effort exceeded the project costs as originally quoted by Spencer Remodeling. Mr. [redacted] needs to stand behind his work, He should release the property lien and reimburse us for the replacement tile materials.
Regards,
[redacted]
