*** *** came into our shop on Friday, 6/17/and told the sales associate that she was looking for some outfits to wear during the events around her daughter’s wedding, and that sheneeded help selecting them, as she didn’t usually shop for this kind of special occasion clothing.The sales
associate and *** spent a couple hours together and *** selected pieces of clothing that she was thrilled with and told our sales associate how much she enjoyed their time together, how helpful she had been, and that she absolutely loved the clothesShe also said finding these clothes had just taken a huge amount of stress out of the occasion, and she gave the associate a big warm and joyous hug as she left the store.No mention was even remotely made about possibly wanting to be able to return the clothing.The pieces, by the way, are sold separately and happened to go together but could also be worn with other thingsThey were not sold as outfits nor originally meant to be outfits and were made by different manufacturers.Three days later, on Monday morning, *** called the shop and spoke with another of our sales associatesOur employee told us she could hear her husband in thebackground telling her what to say to us. Our ‘no refunds, exchanges only’ return policy is posted on the wall and also written clearly on the receipt as it has been for yearsThe receipt was folded over so none of the ink from the carbon paper could get on her new clothesIt had nothing to do with secrecy or trying to conceal anything, but purely for her protection.The sales associate that day informed *** about our stated returns policy but called us at our office in another location saying she was concerned about how upset *** seemed and worrying about her, and asked us if there was any exceptions that could be made.We told our associate, which she repeated to ***, that she could return one item for a refund or two items for a store credit.*** came right over to the store but was somewhat disappointed, as she probably didn’t understand what she’d been told, as, I believe, she thought of the things as outfits rather than as separate pieces.Our associate that day refunded her for one of the pieces which is what *** chose.The only way I can possibly explain ***’s hurt feelings is, as her husband *** said, that she is very sensitive, and she seemed obviously stressed that dayThe sales associate that she felt was being inappropriate or rude has been with us for over years, and we have never had a complaint even vaguely resembling the way she has been describedWe have countless return clients who come in to have her help them as she is known for being so courteous, thorough, conscientious, and capable.My wife later decided to allow them to return one more piece for another cash refund, which we did on 7/1/ We did this purely for good will, as we didn’t expect we would see them again.So they now have two pieces, which we hope she can still love as much as she did when she purchased them, and most of their money back.If you need any further information or clarification, please let us know.Thank you,Tony M***
