Revdex.com Complaint Oct 20, 2016RE *** ***The *** Renovation started June13th and was completed June 16th In the renovation contract Splash was hired to renovate the customer shower area, flooring and install customer supplied vanity/counter topThe customer
was made aware that there would damage to the drywall left exposed when removing the existing vanity and replacing it with a smaller oneExample (screw hole from cabinet and counter top cut into drywall so that it would fit) This was estimated and included in the renovation contract. The renovation was completed on June 16th including the drywall patch where the old vanity was removed. June 20th Customer comes in and pays final billIs very disappointed that we did not paint bathroom and complete all the extras that according to them need to be doneHowever, the customer is not willing to pay for these extras nor are they part of the renovation contract(we were not hired to do these things) Customer also requested to have the hand shower spray increased and that there were some scratches on tile trimContacted customer the following day June 21st to set up a time customer agrees to time and shower head and scratches are corrected to customer satisfactionAugust 16th customer sends e-mail to me (Candis) requesting copy of contract (nothing else)August 19th second request by e-mail by customer requesting copy of contract(says that this will be the last request, Next will not be to me.August 22nd Customer was contacted by me via e-mail at which point I informed him that I had been away on Holidays however I can still send him a copy of the contract and final invoice (Copies of both the contract and final invoice were provided to the customer at signing and final payment) Also told customer if there is ever an issue that they felt was not been address in a timely manner that they can always call the showroom for a quicker responseAugust 24thCustomer leaves voicemail at showroom stating that their son decided to paint the bathroom while they were away and that we had done a terrible job patching (drywall work) Customer was contacted Via e-mail the same day to get a number for which Ben (original installer could contact customer to set up a time to come out)September 14th Customer e-mailed because he had not been contacted by BenI contacted Ben and he said he would contact Tom the following morning. September 15th Ben (installer) left voicemail for customerOnce customer and Ben actually spoke Ben gave customer a few dates and they did not work for the customerThey then decided to touch base the following week Once they did the date of September 29th at the time of am was set(Please note that during this conversation the customer was telling ben how horrible is workmanship is and that he does terrible work)September 29th Ben showed up to have a look over the area we were contacted to look atUpon inspecting the patch work that was completed according to the splash contractBen informed the customer that the reason it bubbled was because they did not prime itThey have been using the shower daily since completion of the renovation (June 16th) and when you do not prime an area that has be mudded for almost months, the humidity will ruin the patch jobAt this point Ben stated that considering it had been left for so long it was not that bad(picture was taken)The customer commented that the corners on either side of the vanity/counter top were rough saying Ben did a terrible job patching there as well They were definitely rough but it was not caused by poor patching (we did not even patch this area) it was caused from dried paint dripsPainting completed by customer son in August The customer also was saying that we needed to fix the area between the light fixture and the mirror because Ben had patched this and done a terrible jobBen did not do any patching/drywall work above the counter topIt was clearly from a previous renovation as the patch was covered by wall paper that was hidden under a mirrored medicine cabinetThe customer had requested for Ben to install their new mirror and light fixture during the renovationBen installed the new light fixture and mirror for the customer onsite (customer supplied) at no chargeThis was something extra he did for the customer during the renovationThey were never charged for this and we (Splash South) were never contracted to do any patching outside of the area where the cabinet was removed and a smaller cabinet was installed. The customer was very upset at this and talked about going to the labor board and contacting a lawyerBen was told by the customer that we were a shady company and how terrible of a person and contractor he was Ben stood his ground and told the customer he would fix the area that Splash had been contracted to do even though the drywall had bubbled due to the neglect of the customerThe customer agreed with Ben and left him to make the repairShortly after this the customer came back into the bathroom very irate and angry after speaking with his wife and demanded that ben fix all the areas that need re-finishingBen said no that he was not going to work for free and do extras for a customer at no charge especially when he had been treated so poorly. The customer then told Ben to get all of his stuff and leave his houseSo Ben packed up his tools said goodbye and left the customers house. The customer was very upset, argumentative and disrespectful to Ben from the moment he walked into the houseHe has also been aggressive to myself saying he is trained as a guard to not back down. There was nothing else said by either person or any contact since. We have no problem helping customer and very often do extras for our customers at no cost to themHowever, we will not be bullied into completing work that we were not hired or paid too completeEspecially after being treated so disrespectfully and kick out of the customer house. We came out to repair an issue that was due to customer neglect and were treated terriblyIt is common procedure for our customers to prime and paint their own bathrooms as most people are fully capable to do so themselves, or customers may hire someone else once we have completed the work the customers have paid and hired Splash to doAs per the renovation contract for *** *** we were not hired to do any work above the area of damage caused by the removal of the wall to wall vanity.Ben was able to get the patch almost completed before he was told to leave, the patch will need a bit of sanding and then requires priming and painting right away. Please let us know if you need any further information we have pictures from before/after the renovation and during the call back.Regards,Candis J***

I am rejecting this response because:
Good afternoon:
The response from Splash tub and tile is not satisfactory.  The contractor/owner left the “repair” unfinished. I am not a drywaller by trade and do not have the skills to complete drywall in a professional fashion: this is why we hired and paid someone to complete the job for us.
As for the abusive language and aggressive behaviours on my part with the contractor /owner, that has been largely exaggerated and now is being used as an excuse to not complete the work that they have been contracted to do.
The left side of the wall beside the vanity; there is indeed a problem.  I’m no expert, but I don’t think it is standard to visibly see the tape through the drywall; leaving a rough surface. The contract was read and understood therefore I am asking for some follow up.
The contract was read and understood. I do not feel that uncompleted work was at all related to “carelessness, misuse, or misapplication”; we used our bathroom as per what a normal household would. We remain displeased with the drywall work as we paid for and were promised a professional finished bathroom. Instead of a paint read finish we were left with a do it yourself project to complete.
We have had numerous renovations completed  with various contractors and always have had excellent working relationships with those who have worked for us. To date, we have never had such unwillingness to compromise from any company that we have dealt with.
I am not asking them to come back to further repair [redacted] [redacted]  [redacted] [redacted] I would like the full drywall repair amount refunded to us as this part of the contract was not completed.

Many thanks,
[redacted]
Sincerely,
[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:
After reviewing the information provided by the renovation provider. There are a few points to that we have to rebut.  There was a large delay in time from the service provider between August 24 to September 14 in which there was no contact from the renovation provider; no reason was provided for the delay.
The fact that the bathroom drywall was never completed properly has not been addressed. At no point was either myself or my wife told that priming of the drywall was required immediately. If this was a necessary step the company should have provided the consumer the necessary aftercare instructions; this should not be assumed.  Secondly, even if we were to prime the drywall; it was not ready to prime as it was left rough and unfinished. The additional rough area was not caused by paint drips but rather rough drywall that was part of the repair.  The contractor was simply asked to complete the repair that was needed to be done.  Even after the contractor came in to fix the area of concern it was left unsanded and unfinished; not at all completed.
We had complimented Ben on the tub and tile installation that he and his assistant completed. The only concern that we have is the drywall repair. [redacted]  [redacted]  [redacted]  [redacted]
We had quotes from a number companies for the same job that were significantly less in cost but chose to go with Splash as they presented as they would be able to do all aspects of the job in a professional manner.  The end product was very disappointing and interaction with the parties representing the company were less than satisfying.
Perhaps when there is a problem to be addressed the person who created the problem in the first place should not be sent out to fix it; as they cannot be impartial on their own work completed. In addition, it was difficult to find resolution with the owner of the company due to her personal relationship with Ben.  The ability to have perspective and see things a different way are often blurred by the lack of impartiality and a conflict of interest results for the consumer. [redacted]
At the end of the day, the repair was not completed properly and we were charged for a job that was less than professionally completed. We would ideally like to have the repair completed so we can paint and install hardware.

Sincerely,
[redacted]
