In the Summer of 2013, I redid my 3-tier retaining wall/planter structure on the side of my house.
The house, purchased in 1983, is an underground shelter type (built in 1979) with 8" of reinforced concrete in the walls and roof, all on a ~6" concrete slab. The construction was done by excavating the top surface to a depth of ~11 to 12 feet of a bluff in back of a stone quarry, pouring a floor and walls with concrete into forms, placing/pouring (?) a reinforced concrete roof on the walls, insulating all external surfaces, backfilling the walls and covering the roof with 2 feet of earth; and planting grass on roof. The front wall is traditional framing w/ 'shadow-rock' veneer. That and a small portion of the left side of the structure, where the 3-tier retaining wall sits right up against the house, are exposed to the weather.
The concrete wall, at the right side of the tiers was not insulated (only where dirt was backfilled), so I contacted Spray Foam to insulate the entire exposed wall where I was about to rebuild the retaining wall/tier structure.
They came out , gave me an estimate and sprayed the insulation on and covered that with a plastic sheeting to protect the insulation from the sun's ultra-violet rays. After cleanup, they were gone leaving a nice neat surface for me to finish off with a paint scheme that blended into the house.
