This is in response to the above complaint that was filed on September 2, 2016.   A copy of the
complaint is attached with personal information redacted for privacy.  The customer's statement of the problem was that after paying the balance  of a bill (that was confirmed by our...

office) they were billed again after the insurance company later asked  for money back.  At the time the balance  was verified was prior to the insurance company requesting a partial refund which created  a balance due from the patient.  We bill the insurance as a courtesy to the patient and if the insurance later asks for some or all of their payments to be returned we are obligated to do so.It is a common practice by insurance companies to later recover money from the medical providers if the insurance company erred in their initial payment. This  puts the obligation to pay the revised balance back on the patient  or guarantor.  The patient or guarantor can continue to work with their insurance company if they feel that the payment was not processed correctly eventually the patient  or their insurance needs to pay the outstanding balance as in this situation.
