Springfield Square Apartments Reviews (2)

I have been residing at Springfield Square Apartments for a few years now, and the management at this residential area has left much to be desired. This was my first apartment as an adult in the working world, and after having gone through all that I've experienced at Springfield Square I can honestly say I now know all of the questions to ask and all of the negative things to look out for when I move on to another residence. Starting out, the apartment seemed fine and maintenance was very responsive; it definitely did not start off as a bad experience. I was surprised to find that my building was part of a roach treatment program (perhaps one of those questions I didn't know to ask) when I received a memo stating the things I needed to do for preparation. This happens every couple of months. A few months in, there was a pretty bad leak from the ceiling due to water from a unit above. The leak was stopped, but that was all that was done. This seems to be the common theme when it comes to water leaks, which is concerning, especially after learning about the preventative maintenance options (to avoid mold growth/spread, e.g., industrial strength fans, dehumidifier) that should be provided in those circumstances. Timely responses to water leaks seem to be "luck of the draw." Health and safety are a major concern, as the apartments are closely connected and I'm sure I haven't been the only apartment to experience a leak. Over time, maintenance has become much less responsive, and the employees who answer the phones in the leasing office don't seem to have any answers for much of anything. There seems to be a strong disconnect or lack of communication all around (among the staff and between them and the tenants). I've had to call on multiple occasions to inquire about the status of work orders that were scheduled to take place (and in some instances changed without my knowledge).
Outside of my problems, there have definitely been several health code violations due to the mountain of trash that piles up outside of the dumpster due to either dumpster compactor malfunction or lackadaisical nature of folks not wanting to open the dumpster door (I think it's been the latter more times than not). The trash area was renovated and a wooden fence was built around it for whatever reason, but now it kind of hides the problem instead of solving it. It's gotten a bit better, but the mountain still shows up and continues to attract rats/mice and other creatures. They've tried to resolve it by threatening to charge those who don't dispose of their trash correctly, but how exactly they've planned to enforce that- I don't know. I've also heard about a bed bug problem in at least one apartment, but to my knowledge, only the affected apartment is being treated (again, concerning, since the apartments are not separated by much).
The size of the living room and bedroom(s) are amazing and are probably the greatest thing about Springfield Square, as is the free heat (when it works); however being able to enjoy them peacefully may prove to be a task easier said than done. I do think the present rent is a bit too high for the "you get what you pay for" spiel, but I'd recommend staying elsewhere if possible.
