Spyder Technologies Reviews (4)

Mr*** has over years of experience with this type of work, and I constantly get very favorable comments from customers going out of their way to compliment him. Mr*** has a long history of quality work and does a great job with his customers. Mr*** has never had the authority to grant refunds, and I have NEVER had an instance of where he granted a refund without my prior approval. Therefore, I find this instance to be highly unusual. It is likely that he said he would check with his boss about a refund, which is the practice. Furthermore, to date, I have never been contacted by the customer to say that she had any kind of issue with my technician and the work he provided. If we felt a refund was due, then we would provide one. However, as I stated in my first response, we provided the work that was requested, and the customer was satisfied enough with the work to pay the amount agreed upon. If the customer would have called within days to say that her system wasn't working, then we would have provided a no charge service call to fix any issues that might have been related to our work. We have no way of controlling what is done to make the system not work for a period of almost months, so therefore we should not be held liable in this matter.*** ***PresidentSpyder Technologies

I am rejecting this response because:
In this response I will elaborate far more about my situation with Mr*** and SpyderMy first response was far shorter than I wished it to be because Revdex.com did not disclose I only had minutes to compose a response until after I had clicked the button to reject Spyder’s responseThis time I am aware of that unwarranted time limit, so I am writing in advance to cut and paste it into my responseFirst: I contacted another installer who came out, saw the over the air antenna I had purchased and quoted a price of $to install and set up my over the air system using my existing *** *** wiringThis gave me a basis for knowing what I could expect to pay for installationSecond: I then contacted Spyder and talked with Mr*** on the phoneSince they were *** *** installers I expected they would know what mounts they already had and whether my over the air system could fit on my existing *** *** mountI explained my situation and he attempted to sell me an over the air antenna for approximately $which included installationI explained to him I had already purchased an over the air antenna from a reputable seller on ***, not *** as Mr*** claimsI do not use *** because I find they have less control over their sellers and quality is much to be desired on ***I gave Mr*** a complete description of the antenna I had purchased so he would easily know whether it would work on a *** system, which they soldI did not want a wasted trip because it would not fitThe antenna which I had purchased was an over the air amplified, rotating antenna which would rotate to pick up all the available channels in my areaMr*** said it would cost approximately $per hour to install and I felt it should take between one and two hours based on what was already here and based on the times others had stated in numerous (2579) *** reviews of the antenna which were amateurs installing the antenna themselvesThird: Mr*** showed up and I showed him the antenna which I had purchasedHe then said it would not work on my existing *** *** mount which shocked me because my whole purpose in telling him which antenna I had during my initial call was to avoid repeat tripsI then showed him where the existing *** *** antenna was and where all the wiring came into the house so he would not waste more time on his return tripI then showed him three of the four televisions which were set up on my *** *** system and told him about the fourth which was in my bedroomI felt it would be inappropriate to show a strange man my bedroom until he was ready to finish the systemFourth: Mr.*** then said he would have to leave and get another mount and he implied he would be back after his next appointmentAt no time did Mr*** say or imply this would be provided at no cost to me! Mr***’s total lack of knowledge of the *** system, and my inability to contact Mr*** that day on his cell phone, left me extremely concerned he was going to try to rig something up which would quickly fail after he leftThus when he finally returned my call late that evening to reschedule led me to go back to my *** purchase history and purchase the mount recommended to go with my antennaI also purchased the surge protector which was recommended with my amplified antennaFifth: On the day scheduled for Mr***’s return it was raining very heavily, so I called Spyder Technology to reschedule since I did not want to see anyone hurt trying to climb on my roof during the rainWhen I called I was told Mr*** had called in sick that day so he would not be comingHad I not called I wonder whether Spyder would have called me to cancel the appointment or left me hanging, waiting for an installer who never showed upSixth: When Mr*** finally showed up I told him about Spyder telling me he was sick when the previous appointment was scheduled and his look was of absolute shockI then wondered whether Mr*** was actually sick that day or whether Spyder invented a fiction so he could work on more profitable installations for themSeventh: I then showed Mr*** the mount and the surge protector which I had purchased so he would not be wasting valuable time attempting to rig something which may or may not workI then gave him the antenna and the mount along with the surge protector for him to mountThe only time the antenna box had been opened previously was once when I first purchased it to insure all parts were there so I could get them replaced if they were missing and then again when Mr*** first showed upAll parts were present and accounted for at both those times and replaced in the boxMr*** then proceeded to install the antenna on my roof and brought the box back in which contained the antennaI saw it only contained the remote control and asked him why that was thereHe claimed he could not set it up to rotate because it was on multiple TV’sAt no point did Mr*** say all the parts were not there or that he had not installed the complete unitHe then went to the kitchen and basement televisions and removed the A/B switch and indoor amplified antennas my friend had installed so I could switch between *** *** and the over the air subchannels such as Create and MeTV which *** did not carryThese indoor amplified antennas helped but were subjected to frequent disruptions which my friend and I felt would be solved with an outdoor amplified antennaSince *** *** refused to carry these channels, and since they were the channels I watched most often, we felt it would be wise to drop *** and use their wiring to receive these channels consistently and reliablyMr*** never went into the living room or my bedroom to adjust these televisionsReception did improve somewhat for Create on the kitchen television which is the only one I had the time to check, so I paid Mr*** and he leftMr*** and I did not go around to each television as he states, due to appointments I was forced to take his word he had done what he had been contracted to doEighth: After Mr*** left I had to deal with three deaths of close friends or family members during the summer, so I was unable to watch much television or take the time to find someone to inspect my system to see whether the installation had been done correctlyMy close friend who had put indoor amplified antennas on my televisions was unavailable because he was dealing with his elderly mother with dementia and could not make the four hour trip to see meHis mother’s passing this September made a fourth death and he was finally able to come in mid October to visitWhen I was able to watch television I was not happy with what I was receiving, but due to the issues around me this was extremely low on my prioritiesNinth: After my friend had been here a couple days, he asked what was the problem I was having with the televisionsHe then proceeded to check the four televisions, starting with the kitchen where I saw the Create channel was coming in better after Mr*** put on the antennaHe said this should be coming in far better than it was and then saw channel 8, KOMU, from Columbia, was not even scanned into the televisionHe tried rescanning and channel still would not come inHe said had Mr*** done the job properly and rescanned the televisions as he was supposed to do, channel would have came in clearlyThis led him to check the other televisions and he showed me that Mr*** had not even connected the living room or my room to the outdoor antenna system, they were still on the indoor amplified antennas which he had installed, even though there was *** wiring to each televisionAs he continued to see the disaster which was Mr***’s work, he got angrier and angrierHe then went outside and examined the outdoor antenna which Mr*** had installedHis first question was asking why it was not connected to the powerI told him Mr*** said it would not rotate because of the multiple televisionsHe then said something unprintable and asked where the box was the antenna came inI found it and he then asked where the A/C power converter wasIt was missingThe remote was there but the A/C converter was missingI had told Mr*** to replace everything in the box he did not use, so the only conclusion was that Mr*** misappropriated this A/C converter for his own useMy friend then went and found an old converter which would work and hooked up the antenna to the powerHe then rotated the antenna which Mr*** had aimed at Jefferson City, opposite the direction most stations broadcast fromHe also told me that not only without the power the antenna would not rotate, but also without power the amplification on the antenna would not work, so outlying channels would not be received wellBy this time he was furious with Mr*** because he said this was a basic any mn who installed antennas would knowAfter spending less than two hours he had fixed the amplification, rotated the antenna so all channels came in clearly, rescanned every television and added two additional televisions to my system which I had not included in the service I asked Mr*** to performTenth: I then called Spyder Technologies on Friday, October 20th and spoke to Mr***He was very short with me and asked what I wantedI felt since he had put the antenna on the roof that half the amount I had paid would be reasonable compensation for the time and energy my friend had exerted fixing Mr***’s disasterMy friend was standing right beside me as I spoke with Mr*** and heard everything which was exchanged between usMr*** agreed to return half my payment and said he would have his boss put the check in the mailThis statement made me wonder because Mr*** made it sound as if he, Mr***, was the boss and his boss was merely his errand boy obediently doing as he was told! At no point did Mr*** say a refund would require approval of his boss and at no point did Mr*** say their workmanship was only warranted for daysNor does my receipt say anything about a day warrantyEleventh: On Saturday, October 28th I still had not received the refund promised by Mr***, so I called Spyder Technology and again spoke to Mr***Once again he was very short with me and this time gave me the song and dance that a refund required the approval of his boss and his boss had refused to approve paymentThis is the same boss Mr*** had previously made sould like his errand boy, so I am now wondering who makes the decisions at Spyder TechnologyMr*** then had the audacity to hang up on me.Twelfth: Upon filing a complaint with the Revdex.com, I find Mr***’s response contained numerous factual inconsistencies and Mr***’s response (Mr***’s supposed boss) was completely unaware of the facts at issueIt is obvious he only took Mr***’s account of what had happened and had made no attempt to contact me to find out my side of what had happenedThis is supported by the fact he claims he told Mr*** to contact me, rather than contacting me himself to resolve the issue which any good manager would do when faced with a complaint regarding one of their staffThey simply would not allow the member in question to continue to handle the issueThirteenth: Upon responding to my response, Mr*** once again avoids liability for the issue and instead defends his employee at question, instead claiming Mr*** has no authority to grant refundsAgain Mr*** has made no effort to contact me to resolve this issue which has now escalated to what had been a request for half to now requesting double the cost I paid plus the cost of the stolen A/C converterI will be giving this money to my friend who had to redo the work Mr*** was contracted for and who deserves for his time and aggravationAttached I am including the receipt emailed to me from Spyder Technology which includes nothing about a day warranty
Sincerely,

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Mr. [redacted] clearly promised a refund for which I have a witness that heard the entire conversation on speaker. He did not say it needed his boss' approval, he said it would be done and would be put in the mail. However this continues a pattern of behavior of Mr. [redacted] not honoring commitments. After looking him up in court records, I found he has had several instances where his check has been garnished while employed at Spyder Technologies which shows a continual pattern of Mr. [redacted] not honoring commitments he has made. Anything else is irrelevent. Mr. [redacted] clearly promised a refund which was not honored. It is not wise to have someone to be employed in a position of trust where he makes promises to customers. Since the owner is clearly aware of Mr. [redacted] having garnishments, it is shocking he is allowed to continue in a position of trust where he binds his employer to his promises. In this case Mr. [redacted] has clearly continued a pattern of behavior of promising one thing, then deciding he doesn't want to do it.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

The first response below is a first had account from Spyder Technologies’ Lead Technician, [redacted]: On 5/4/17, I, [redacted] arrived at Ms. [redacted]’s home to install an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to replace her [redacted] satellite TV system. My job was to install her purchased antenna to her...

TV system and make sure the TVs were all connected and able to receiver OTA programming.  First, when I arrived, the antenna she bought on [redacted] did not have a mount and it would not fit on any existing [redacted] mount already in place or that we carry in stock, so I had to leave to go and purchase one, which she was not charged for, so I can do the install. While I was out getting mount, she called me and claimed she found the mount for the antenna, so now, I returned to install antenna. So, I installed the antenna but I did not install the rotating motor which she was aware of as at the time, as all parts were not there, but I assured her, I can point manually since all OTA channels come from the same direction and still get all channels. I have no reason to steal or keep anything from anyone, especially OTA parts (AC Converter) as we are a satellite TV and Internet company and everything we use is provided  through our distributors. Once antenna was installed, pointed  and wiring connected, I scanned all the TVs(4) that she wanted scanned and they all were working to her satisfaction as we went around together to make sure she was getting the channels she required. She then paid for the service we provided, which I doubt she would have paid if there was still something not working to her satisfaction.   [redacted]Lead TechnicianSpyder Technologies[redacted] This second response is from the owner of Spyder Technologies, [redacted]: We had not heard from Ms. [redacted] until October 20th,2017, which is almost 6 months after the original service work had been completed.   At Spyder Technologies, we warranty our service work for a period of 90 days after the work performed.  However, we do not warranty service work that is almost 6 months old, unless there has been regular communication with us about any issues they may have been having along the way with any service that we performed.  As far as we knew everything was working fine after we left on 5/4/17, because we hadn’t been contacted to say that it wasn’t.   Other customers can attest to the fact that we cover our service work at no charge as long as we are notified in a reasonable amount of time after the install, but almost 6 months is not a reasonable amount of time.  Therefore, the refund wasn’t granted in this situation, because we performed the task that we were hired to do, and everything was working to the customer’s satisfaction when we left the job, and without any communication to the contrary. On 10/20/17 [redacted] did tell me that Ms. [redacted] was requesting a partial refund.  However, after researching the issue, and based the facts above I told him to call her back and let her know why there would be no refund.  I guess he ([redacted]) didn’t call her, or he attempted and couldn’t reach her, not sure which, but on 10/28/17 when she called back in to the office, he did convey that message about the reasons for not getting a refund.  I am sorry that this is not what Ms. [redacted] wanted to hear, but we did the work that she requested, and it was to her satisfaction at the time, and we cannot be held liable for something 6 months later.   [redacted]PresidentSpyder Technologies[redacted]
