I had insurance with them for a year with no problem After the year they sent me a new policy, even though I had not requested it I called Square One because it seemed strange to send me a complete policy and not just a notice of renewal, they told me to ignore the renewal if I didn't want to continue with the policy
Of course weeks later Square One illegally withdrew the funds from my bank account without notifying me I found out when I bounced a cheque They agreed they made a mistake, but have not issued me a refund I called my bank and after mins they said I would have to go to the branch to fill out some forms, which are not available online, then it could take weeks to investigate and get a refund

It is super easy to get a policy with Square One, but do not expect to get good customer serviceThey only believe in taking your money and not giving you anything in returnGod help you if you actually have to make a claimI know people who had to battle, for excessively long periods of time, with them to get covered what was rightfully outlined in their policyAs fast as they will take your money and give you a policy they will take it away even if it is due to their errorThey will argue with you on the phone, talk over you and will not even try to listen to youThis includes managersThis is my experienceWhen I asked to speak to the manager took forever to receive a call back and the manager kept talking over me and the company they working with as an adjuster Claims Services International is even worst than them,they are rude and just putting guilt trip on you even to getting your right would not even listen and kept blaming youIf I could give them a negative rating I wouldStay away from this company!

I'm really disappointed with Square One. I was denied home insurance on a 1946 bungalow due to the condition of the home's exterior and roof...which is frustrating, because I informed the company that we fully intended to make the necessary repairs to the home as soon as we gained possession.

Not only that, but we had the home inspected before purchasing and were told that it was in quite good condition for it's age. We knew purchasing it that the roof would need to be replaced, so we've already made arrangements for this to happen. The exterior of the home has peeling paint (no surprise, it's old) and some minor cracks that need to be filled, but Square One thinks the property is too risky to insure. I understand that insurance is all about weighing risk so that insurers make more money than they lose, but this came as quite a surprise to me. We've never made an insurance claim before, we chose the highest deductible offered, and we indicated that we would make every effort to remediate the exterior as soon as possible.

The thing is, the home is actually in pretty good condition--just a bit rough around the edges. The previous owners did a top notch reno in the basement but hadn't gotten around to the exterior, so that's something we plan to remediate as soon as we move in. I was told that the underwriters don't believe we can improve the home's exterior within 60 days, and thus the property is too risky for them.

We were told that once we made the necessary repairs to the exterior we could contact the company again and try to see if they would insure us. Sigh. I'm incredibly disappointed in Square One. They seem to offer a great product, and I chose them because I liked that they broke down personal property coverage so we wouldn't be paying to insure things we don't have... but it seems that if you don't have a home already in pristine condition they won't touch you.

Square one claims they have the most comprehensive sewer back up coverage in the business but yet they charge a 10K deductible. We have an average family home and had our sewer back up and flood our basement. The deductible is 10k???? The adjuster said he had to ask his colleague if it was correct as he was so shocked our deductible was that high. Normally it's around 1000 for most policies. The restoration company who came out also was completely shocked that it was that amount. They have never seen it so high and said even huge condo complexes normally have a lower 5k deductible for the whole building. We are on the hook for all of the damages ourselves now because of our terrible coverage with square one. We have a couple friends who dealt with sewer backups and they had 700-1000 deductibles. Lucky us to have chosen square one as our provider. Buyer be aware do not choose a company who claims to have the best coverage but puts the deductible at 10k up to 25000k. I'm switching insurance providers immediately.

In my 20 years in Canada, this is the first and only insurance company that made the claim process simple, transparent and courteous. I wish this company greater success as more and more people need to know about Square One and sign up with them. They reduce insurance costs, process claims diligently and have made the overall service a pleasurable experience. I am customer in Calgary and have already been actively recommending them to other home owners. The adjustors were also very professional and courteous.

Square One insured me as living in an apartment it made me feel so much better knowing in case something happened I would be covered. The process was easy and I would recommend them to family and friends and to anyone who is either looking for insurance or is not happy with their company.
