St. Dominic Health Services Reviews (%countItem)

I went to the ER of St. Dominic Hospital the evening of 3-7-2018. I was promptly seen by a ER doctor and medication and test were ordered. Within 2 or 3 hours of my arrival I was told I was being moved to another area to make room for new arrivals. Other patients were being moved as well. As my bed is rolled into the new area, I could hear and see a male nurse complaining to a female nurse about all these people being moved over to their area. He was furious that he would be swamped with all these new patients. I was rolled into a stall with curtains. I had no access to a call button. I could hear a female talking to a patient and family. The patient sounded like they were dying. The family left and the female came into my area and asked what was going on. After explaining to her I asked her for my medications. I was told by the nurse in the other area that I would receive my next dose there. She said she would check on it. Nothing ever happened. When the angry male nurse came in I asked him if he could get my meds. He said nothing was ordered. I told him that the nurse in the other dept. said I would get the meds over here. He became angry, and sternly stated he was not holding my meds from me. He frightened me and I began to cry. He later came back with meds. He pushed the meds through incorrectly. My body flung up and I was choking. He just stood there staring at me. That was the last time I received meds. The next morning a nurse came into my stall. She was shocked that the test ordered were not done. Blood work was ordered for two more draws, and no one did it. I was scheduled for a test that required those results. I told her forget it just discharge me. She asked me to stay and do the test, that they would do one draw and then scan. Test came back ok and I went home. I never received a bill so I assumed the nurse reported the failure of care. I then received a bill 10 months later from St. Dominic and disputed with *** on 2-1-19. On 2-8-19 they turned me over for collection.

St. Dominic Health Services Response • Feb 28, 2019

Ms. contacted the hospital approximately 11 months after her visit to express her concerns. She expressed some concerns which, due to the passage of time, were difficult to recreate or accurately confirm. Her concerns were provided to our emergency department management and are being addressed within our patient care processes and human resource guidelines. A letter was sent to Ms. on February 18, 2019 from the hospital. Her medical care has been reviewed and overall appears to have been reasonable and necessary. Ms. was admitted to the hospital for observation and was discharged on the day after admission reporting satisfactory resolution of her symptoms.
Her private insurer did not dispute or question her care or the services provided and paid the hospital a contractually discounted amount for the services. Her outstanding balance is partially related to her deductible and partially related to the co-insurance provision in her private insurance. plan.

We certainly regret that she did not feel that the services met her expectations.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: The reason I did not bring up my concerns until 11 months later is because I did not receive a bill from them until 11 months later. At that time I contacted them immediately. Yes they filed with my insurance and received payment, but never billed me the balance. This left me to believe that the nurse the following morning did indeed let the uppers know my care was not in any way proper procedure. Not only did they bill me the balance 11 months later, they turned over for collection within 30 days of my verbal and in writing complaint. The response from St. Dominic Hospital shows exactly how they care for their patients....they don't!

Regards
