St. Tammany Marine, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: I brought my boat in on July 5, 2014 to get a diagnosis of problem with motor and an estimate of the cost for repairs to fix it. The Work Order I signed says "I understand that it will be about 7-10 days before work will begin on my product". It also says in writing "Diagnose first, call with estimate after". I was told in front of several witnesses that the cost to diagnose the problem would be $58.00. I called St. Tammany Marine after 10 days and was told they had not yet looked at my boat. I called once again and we told nothing had been done yet. After it had been there for three weeks, I went there and asked about the status and was told they are trying to get to it. I called the next week and spoke to the owner. He said they had looked at the boat but could not find the problem. He recommended that they put on a $400 fuel pump that would take about $200 in labor. I asked if he was sure that was my problem and he said "I don't like to throw expensive parts on to try and diagnose a problem, but I don't know what else to do." He said he would do some more research and look at some technical bulletins and call me back. I went to St. Tammany on Saturday, August 2nd, four weeks after leaving my boat there. They said they had ordered the $400 part and were awaiting delivery before installing it. I said I had not authorized any repairs, I had only agreed to pay $58.00 for a diagnosis and estimate for repairs. I said I would pay the $58.00 and take my boat elsewhere. They said I had to pay %229.59 for the labor and parts they had already put on the motor, even though they didn't fix my problem. They would not remove the parts they put on that I didn't authorize (or need) and said I had to pay $229.59 in cash if I wanted my boat because they would not accept credit cards from disgruntled customers. I had to go get the cash and pay them $229.59 for unauthorized parts and labor to get my boat back.Desired Settlement: Refund of $171.59 ($229.59 less $58.00) for over charges that I did not authorize or agree to.
