I contracted w/this company for roof removal and replacement. The company accepted a deposit of $6000 and did not perform work. I want deposit returnedOn [redacted] 2014, I received a Project Estimate from Stack and Hughes (S&H) for proposed roof work for shingle and rubber roof replacement at my address: [redacted] XXXXX. The total cost to complete the entire job was [redacted] After deciding to make a contract with S&H for this work, I sent a deposit of [redacted] to them on [redacted] 2014. I received an invoice from S&H on [redacted] 2014. This restated the scope of the job, showed receipt of the deposit, and the remaining balance of [redacted] The balance was to be paid upon completion of the work. After receipt of the statement notating my deposit had been received, the following unfair or deceptive act occurred: the scope of work as described in the Project Estimate and the Invoice was not completed. No preparatory work was started, no supplies delivered, no shingled or rubber roofs were installed. After the deposit was received there were no activities done to complete this contracted job. In addition, a dumpster for construction debris was delivered in [redacted]. This gave me an indication that work would begin on this project shortly. This was not the case, as the dumpster is still on my property and there has been no work completed. This unfair or deceptive act or practice is, in my opinion, declared unlawful by Section 2 of Chapter 93A of [redacted] Emails were sent to S&H requesting a status update on the scope of work. My daughter has called or emailed the S&H office numerous times. She also visited the office during business hours on [redacted] and [redacted] There has been no response from the office to these multiple inquires. As a result of this unfair or deceptive act or practice, I suffered injury or loss of money as follows: failure to return the deposit of [redacted] for this work which was not performed. Undue stress of waiting for this job to be completed. Concern that the roof will deteriorate further. The delay in the start of the project has caused damage to the interior of the house. Concern that already present leaks will get worse and cause additional interior damage. Inability to use my driveway due to the dumpster being located there.Desired SettlementI hereby want the following relief: I want to cancel this job and have my [redacted] deposit returned to me. In addition I want the dumpster removed from my property.Business Response customer and I are planning on a positive outcome, and the contract honored.. kindly contact customer for verification. job should progress in approx. a 2 week period...Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)I have been in contact with the company. They plan to honor the original terms of the contract. As yet, the job is not finished, however, I am hopeful the job will be completed with no additional problems. If it is not, then I will use the option to reopen the complaint. Thank you.

Work never performedPaid a check deposit of $1,350 on July 25th, 2014 which company cashed on July 28th, 2014 (over 6 months ago). Work has never even been started. Company has ignored emails, phone call messages, office visit, and written letter for refund.Desired Settlement$1,350.Business Response The customer required a solar powered vent that took some time to order. We had invoiced them for the vent on September 24th, so without pulling the slip, I would say that it came in around that date. At that time we were then able to get the job on the board for scheduling. The majority of the jobs that we had scheduled ahead of the Berglunds we had uncovered underlying issues, which in this field is a fairly common occurrence. This always sets the schedule back and causes delays in progress. On a number of occasions we had attempted to pull together a smaller crew of men to address some of the smaller jobs on the schedule, to no avail. [redacted] from our office had emailed Mrs. Burglund back and forth a number of times and had also informed her of our intentions. During the time frame in question, we had 4 fairly large jobs that were ether in progress or scheduled ahead of the Burglunds. The first was a 13,000 square foot strip and shingle job in Devens, MA, we did not uncover any monumental underlying issues however, this job got held up on a number of occasions due to weather. Another was a small siding repair that snowballed into residing half of another customers house along with plywood sheeting and framing. The last two notable jobs that were going on, still remain in progress. First was a 9000 square foot commercial roof (remove old rubber roof and replace). Once the old roof was removed, we discovered that not only did the entire deck need to be removed and replaced, but the rafters throughout the whole building needed to be sistered. The last notable job (which is still in progress) which was just ahead of the Burglunds, was a soffit and fascia job on a very large home (approx. 5000 square foot) here in Groton. Both of the above mentioned jobs had to be delayed because of the tremendous amount of snow we had received during the winter. After the first storm our entire team was then focused on snow removal for the remainder of the winter, only letting up within the last couple of weeks. During this time our office was flooded with calls, emails, faxes, and letters requesting service. This coupled with keeping track of crews and their completed work, had placed our office at a complete standstill. There was not enough people in the field to cover all of the customers requiring assistance, and defiantly not enough help in the office to keep up with it ether. So in short, we have had all of the Burglund's material in storage sense the end of September, and now that we are commencing the previously scheduled work we would like to keep the Burglunds job on our schedule (which is next on the board after the carpentry team completes the above mentioned soffit/fascia job). This would put us at a start date within the next two weeks. If the Burglunds are acceptable to this we would be more than happy to continue with their job. We do want to apologize for any delays, but once on a customers job we devote 100% of our attention to it. We DO NOT cover over or ignore underlying issues just to call a job "complete". Thanks, [redacted]

Company not answering any calls or emails to start work. HAve paid half down for roofing supplies.PAid check on April 3, 2014 for deposit of $2800 for materials. Snow on ground, I was also still sick so said wait until MAy. They brought samples a week later to pick color. I did. No one ever called back. In May I called them and said I had color picked out. MAn came and took down color. Did not take samples. In June I called and said they could start anytime. No answer. Beginning of July called again, received email(can not find) from owners [redacted] with long sob story. I emailed back that I was sorry but thought I should have my money back. No word. Called 4 days later, left message, Sent email, Stopped by and left samples off, and to see them, no one around.Desired SettlementI want and need my money back, $2800.00 plus interest. Now that the work has started, I do believe it is/will be quality workIf I buy a different property in the future, I would consider hiring them again but would build in extra time for the work to be completedThank you

Bathroom remodeling was a complete disaster. Poor workmanship, had to hire outside help, would not provide refund, person in charge totally clueless.Started bathroom remodeling on 11/16/2013. I paid $3500 upfront - some of which was to go to work to be done on my front steps. I had roof work done with this company a few months previously and had no issues. When I asked them if they knew a contractor that did bathroom remodeling, they opted for the job themselves. Workers stripped bathroom and removed waste during first 2 days. Worker forgot to cap toilet when it was removed resulting in water damage to the ceiling and walls in bathroom below. I was promised that this would be repaired by them. From this point on, it was a nightmare. What was promised to be a 2 week job took over 2 months to complete and the reason it was completed was because I hired someone to finish the work. Unlike with the roofing project, this project was overseen by [redacted] who turns out to be the owner's [redacted]. There were ongoing periods of time when no workers showed up and no explanation was given. My husband had passed away on 11/13/13. I work and my [redacted] offered to let the workers in and be there if they needed anything. He soon became concerned as to what was going on and told me he would keep an eye on things as my husband obviously could no longer do so. When the bathroom was initially stripped, other workers were assigned. After the issue with the water damage, there came a time when [redacted] was the only person who came to work on the bathroom. He would arrive late in the afternoon - 3pm or after - and I would actually have to ask him to leave after 8 in the evening because it was impacting our personal time. His work was slow and often flawed. My family and [redacted] ended up assisting with all aspects of the job - putting up studs, insulation, drywall, painting, electrical - you name it, they did it. [redacted] was eventually joined by his [redacted] - neither one had the skills needed to perform this job. My [redacted] had to repeatedly point out errors with how [redacted] was installing the studs, then the drywall - the list goes on. I emailed the owner [redacted] about this on an ongoing basis - all I got in return were appologies and empty promises. My daughter and her husband were living with me and not having access to a bathroom took a toll on us. We were down to one shower stall in my bathroom located in my bedroom. We all had different working schedules and daugher/son-in-law ended up getting up at 4 in the morning to stop off at their gym to take a shower before heading to work. 2 weeks would have been one thing to have this change in their daily routine- 2 months was unacceptible. I have all the invoices, pictures, and emails related to this disaster. On 4/23/14, I emailed the owner with a request for a refund in the amount of $1000. It would have been in her definite best interest to have done so. She would walk off with $2500 which based on work performance was totally unfair to me. However, I just wanted to move forward and that $1000 was to be returned for the front steps refurbishing which I cancelled based on the bathroom mess.Desired SettlementPersonally, I would like it all back. The work performed ended up costing me additional money to have a reliable contractor clean up their mess. [redacted] worked up a quote for the outdoor stairs repair which came in at $1685 for powerwashing the cement steps and coating them with a protective sealant. I priced around - I have a powerwasher and the cost of the sealant was anywhere from $50 to $100. Talk about padding a bill. My husband might be gone but I am not a stupid woman and I will not be taken advantage of. In fairness to this company. I do believe the cost of the roof was fair as I did check everything out. Now I just hope the roof lasts. I would be willing to settle for half of the $3500 I paid to them in good faith.
