Their costs are way too high. I paid nearly $1200 for roughly 2 hours of labor. I will break it down.
Diagnosis - $189 (time 10 minutes for inspection)
Leak search test - $267 (5 minutes to test)
2 Lbs. of refrigerant added - $429 (20 minutes)
AC leak stop added $225 (10 minutes)
Note: I googled the AC Leak stop product and it cost $38.12
TOTAL Bill $1180
Now let’s look at these one by one.
Diagnostic – it was pretty obvious what the issue was from the start but I could live with that cost even though it's high. They charge this on every visit.
Leak search – This should have be included in the diagnostic charge. But even worse, they didn’t find the leak!!! They charged me $267 for nothing!!! The technician waved a sniffer wand over 8 feet of pipe, found NOTHING, then gave me a bill of $267! What a rip-off that was. I get furious even thinking about it.
2 Lbs of refrigerant added – Way over charged for this. I would think this would be good test for other customers to use as to compare an apples-2-apples comparison on pricing.
AC leak stop added - As I stated before, the product is $38 and they added another $200 to add it to the system, a job that took only a few minutes at most followed by the adding of the refrigerant.
While the technician was competent and the system worked when he left there are no guarantees. The refrigerant could leak out in a week and I would be out of luck. So basically, they said there is a leak, they couldn't find it (but charged me $267) then say they may have to come out next spring (which they aren't) to go through this all again, really!!! I have let them know they have lost a customer as their pricing model is unrealistic. I am going elsewhere when I need HAV service. 06/2016

We've used Stafford Mechanical for servicing our boiler for many years, but our most recent interaction was not positive. They came to install an anode (which we were not even sure were needed to begin with, but they had recommended); the part cost was minimal and for being at our house no more than 20 - 25 minutes, they charged us over $400. Since when is it reasonable to charge almost a $1000 an hour for repair work? That said, I think it's becoming for and more "on trend" with these businesses to charge unreasonable prices to consumers, just because they can.
