Review: I put a $500+ deposti on a leas to own 10x20 shed from Stafford Nursery in Dec. 2012. The shed was already constructed . The nursery [redacted], "mistakenly" sold the shed to another customer and informed me that another shed had to be constructed. The date of completion was prolonged for months due to various "builder issues" and finally the shed was ready for delivery July 12, 2012. The shed was was delivered by one installer at 7 in the evening after a torrential rainfall the previous night. The installer experienced severe difficulties during the installation which resulted in a a 2 day incomplete installation and the destruction of my landscape, carpet and the shed itself. To date the damages have been left unresolved by Stafford Nursery as they are attempting to push the responsibility of restitution off on the shed builder who resides in Pennsylvania and who, according to Stafford Nursery, employs the installer. Stafford Nursery advised me that the installer was their employee when he was on the way to my home and never once made mention of the builder of the shed or any one other than themselves; that all changed after the damage had been done. At no time have we had any relationship with the builder of the shed. The leasing contract was through [redacted], however the contract was never ratified due to the unresolved damages to our property. [redacted] advised us that we bore no financial responsibility because the contract was never finalized with our signature and they were returning the incomplete contract to Stafford Nursery. We were contacted for the first time by the owner of the nursery . [redacted] on August 18, 2013 and have since advised him that we chosen to accept full compensation for our losses, a return of our full deposit, vs. entertaining them upgrading the pad of the shed and adjusting the prices because their price of the upgrade pad had been grossly inflated to absorb the bulk of the amount of our damages and also because of their slothful disposition during the entire ordeal. At the time that we are compensated fully for our losses we are prepared to release the shed to them but not before. [redacted] refused to commit to compensate us for the damages and to date has not made any attempts with his insurance company or otherwise to provide us restitution. [redacted] continued to push the responsibility off on the builder which is pointless as he has no written contract with me and my husband therefore, no legal obligation and he has voiced that he will not assume responsibility in any way. [redacted] had the audacity to threaten us with a court order to have the shed removed from our property WITHOUT providing us compensation for the gross amount of damage and destruction to my yard at the hands of his Stafford Nursery shed installer who we later learned was a rookie and who should have never been on a job of this capacity without supervision. His machine got stuck in the mud numerous times. He ran into our trees and uprooted and killed 8 of specimen trees that have been planted for over three years. Our lawn and flower beds have been uprooted and have deep tire tracks throughout as well as my neighbors lawn. This installer drove through my yard in the dark with a "mule" apparatus destroying my landscape. When he got stuck for the last time, he refused to leave our home and spent the night in a huge flatbed truck parked in front of our home. The next morning he tried again all day to free his "mule" but not before tearing through two more trees. I demanded that he stop and at this point the manager from Stafford Nursery advised him that he had to stop as we were in fear of him suffering a heat stroke. He asked me to sign a form from the leasing company agreeing that the shed was delivered in satisfactory condition. Of course I did not but wrote a note on the form to the leasing company explaining what happened and why I could not sign the form. Because I did this, the finance department advised me that I was protected from any financial obligation to the shed until such time as the shed and our property had been restored as specified in my note to them. Stafford nursery made two attempts to fix the shed but the people they sent were incompetent and did not restore the shed properly nor did they mount it properly which is a safety hazard to small children and pets and I operate a daycare in my home and now unable to use my property with this improperly installed shed in my yard. I have sent them pictures, as well as estimates for the damages. We have called countless times and have had to resort to calling from other unrecognizable numbers so that we could get them to answer the phone. We are now ready to charge them a fee for having this thing on our property. Never once has anyone in a managerial position come to access our damages nor offer us a formal resolution to restitution. We have located a REPUTABLE Shed company and are now being held up by these people at Stafford Nursery. If Stafford Nursery does not concede to my demands for restitution I will take measures to take formal ownership of the shed which has been on my property since July 12, 2013 and/or seek legal action against them as the damages to my property damage exceeds the cost of this shed. After reading these complaints I see a trend that tells me these are some back ally scammers. Buyer Beware! This company is very unprofessional and shady. They have a clause they sneak into their contracts releasing them from any obligation or responsibility for damages they cause the homeowner during installation. I did not sign any such form. Is that even legal? The current installation is a SAFETY HAZARD to small children and pets. IT IS NOT STABLE. IT IS MOUNTED 3 FT HIGH ON ONE SIDE WITH NO MIDDLE SUPPORT. A CHILD COULD BE CRUSHED / KILLED UNDER THIS UNIT. I OPERATE A DAYCARE FOR INFANTS AND TODDLERS IN MY HOME AND THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS FROM THE ONSET!!!Desired Settlement: I would like a FULL refund of deposit and to be FULLY and monetarily compensated for the damages to my landscape according to the estimate provided from our local nursery where we originally purchased our plants, and Fully and monetarily compensated for my the water costs to establish newly planted trees and lawn for the first year of planting and Fully and monetarily compensated for the replacement of my Carpet damaged by their shed installer with the thick motor/crude oil he dragged into my home OR we will accept a refund of our Deposit as well as a payment of $775 for shed placement by the contractor of our choice and any applicable fees relating to the completion of the shed repairs and the shed to remain free and clear in our possession at which time we will forgive the outstanding overage of costs for our property damage caused by Stafford Nursery . We would like the first solution but if it is quicker to resolve with the second measure we are willing to do that. We just want it resolved immediately. I would like their company investigated by State officials to ensure they are operating under proper licensing and insurance regulations so that no one else has to undergo the horrible events that we had to. I was told by the owner that they have a clause in their contract that was mistakenly not entered into my contract that would have released them from any responsibility to any damages incurred at the hands of Stafford Nursery. Who in their right mind would sign such a clause? Is this even legal? Aren't businesses in VA supposed to be insured. I reside in MD and am a small business owner and I have insurance on my business. This is absurd!

Response:

There are so many untruths to these complaints that it’s not reasonable to respond to all of them. However, it must be on the record that the majority of the complaints are in relation to the delivery of the product. First, Stafford Nursery does not, and has never, done out of state deliveries. This service is contracted to an independent trucking company and it was their employee(s) who are responsible for any damages or delivery issues arising from this out of state delivery.

In an attempt to service the customer to the best their abilities, Stafford Nursery did a FREE shed consultation with the customer to determine the placement of the shed. The customer chose a location and the consultant agreed that the location would be satisfactory and that the shed could be delivered and installed in this location. However, upon the delivery driver arriving with the shed, the customer decided to alter the location of the shed. This relieves Stafford Nursery of any responsibility as to the placement of the shed.

Furthermore, Stafford Nursery has gone to great lengths to work with and satisfy the customer by communicating with [redacted] (the rental company with which the original contract of purchase was made) and the trucking company. This was an attempt to resolve the issues for the customer. This was purely in a liaison position, and only for the benefit of the customer. We also, to no cost to the customer, dispatched a team to make the cosmetic repairs to the building. Again, this was merely an attempt to satisfy the customer and outside of the contract responsibility of Stafford Nursery. Stafford Nursery also offered the customer a full refund and suggested that the customer allow the trucking company to retrieve the shed so there would not be any hazard. The [redacted] refused that offer and stated that Stafford Nursery needed to bring an $8,000 check to pay restitution of damages caused by [redacted]. This was not a reasonable request of Stafford Nursery and was not executed.

In addition, the attacks on Stafford Nursery for its business practices are unwarranted. Stafford Nursery and its affiliates have sold, delivered and installed over 7,000 (seven thousand) buildings ANNUALLY for the past fifteen years, in 11 different states where we have provided thousands of customers with quality storage buildings.

Our resolution after months of mediating between the delivery company, rent to own company, and said customer, Stafford Nursery has negotiated with the rightful owner of the building, [redacted], to transfer the ownership of the rent to own contract to [redacted] who has taken full responsibility in writing for the issues concerning the delivery process.

In addition to the above resolution, Stafford Nursery will offer a full refund to the [redacted] of their $[redacted] deposit, with the stipulation that [redacted] be allowed to retrieve the building.

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]

Regards,

This response is absolutely absurd. I have witnesses, live footage, still photos, estimates for repairs to my personal property as well as my neighbors personal property which exceed the cost the shed. I have contacted the [redacted] and was advised that this company has no jurisdiction to deliver sheds in MD and have since discovered other homeowners outraged by this company's horrible lack of professionalism and the Revdex.com F rating they received because of it. They are fully aware of their responsibility to us for the damages they caused to our property, inside and out. Stafford Nursery has been provided pictures, and estimates for all damages to our property incurred at the hands of their worker and we are awaiting restitution due us.

Review: On August 23rd, we ordered a garage from [redacted] at Stafford Nursery. We also paid for a pad to be constructed to level the area where the garage will be built. It took multiple attempts to schedule the work. Promises to appear on specific dates were not met. Work has been done on the pad, but it is incomplete. The completed part of the pad is at least a foot higher than the driveway, making it impossible to drive a car onto it. We spoke with the [redacted], on August 13th and got a commitment to be here on August 18th, 19th, or 20th. They never showed up or called. I went to the nursery on August 21st and spoke with the owner. He agreed that he would resolve the issue and contact us on Monday, August 23rd. No call was received. Further review of the incomplete construction has revealed that the retaining wall on the left side is now tilting to the left, due to the weight of the stone used to fill the space. It's now not safe to build the garage or drive a car onto the pad. There has been a repeated pattern of promised dates that weren't met. Meanwhile, the garage is being constructed and cannot be installed until the pad is completed.Desired Settlement: Re-align the left wall, brace it to prevent future collapse. Complete the pad by finishing installing the stone bed and extend it to level the surface so a car will be able to drive onto it.

Stafford Nursery personnel came to our property today and finally completed the project as specified. I consider this a completion of the problem that caused us to file a complaint, so please consider the complaint satisfied. If you need further information, email me or call [redacted] Thank you for your help.

Review: We purchased a 10X12 shed and a 5' ramp from Stafford nursery around April 2015. We were told it would take 4-6 weeks for delivery. That time expired so we began calling the company to check the status. In July 2015 we received a call stating the shed had arrived at their location but had some damage. We were told the damage would be repaired and delivery would be set-up shortly there after. In late July we went into the office and made the final payment and was again told that most of the damage was repaired and the additional damage would either be fixed or we would receive a $50.00 credit. It was decided that the damage would be repaired. We also notified the company that we ordered a 5' ramp but received a 3' ramp. We were told that would also be corrected at the time the other repairs were done. I have called and visited the company several times since the delivery and have received nothing but promises. On September 30,2015 I received a call from the company stating the trim had been received and the work order is being put on the schedule along with the correct ramp. That never took place. Here we are in October and the calls to the company starts again. Finally on November 2nd I called and asked who the owner was and to speak with him. I was told his name is Rich C[redacted] by the office manager, Juliano. the office manager wanted me to go over the issue again with her and I refused. I have already gone over this numerous times and wanted to communicate with the owner in hopes to have the resolved. When I asked the office manage to have the owner return my call I was told that " it is less likely that he will call you back if he does not know what is going on". That is not a good business practice in my opinion. I heard back from the office manager twice again that same day asking questions about the order, but I have not heard a word from the company since.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the repairs done and the correct size ramp delivered and installed.

Review: On March 17, 2013, I placed a $50.00 deposit to hold a "special show price" with Stafford Nursery for a storage shed at a home show held at the [redacted]. My dealings were with [redacted], who explained that the deposit was refundable should I change my mind. Starting in April of this year, I called Stafford Nursery more than 5 times to request a refund. Each time I was assured by [redacted] or office representative "[redacted] that the refund was being processed and I should have it soon. Still not receiving the refund, on September 9th I again contacted the office and was told by [redacted] that [redacted] would return my call that day. After not receiving a return call, I contacted [redacted] by calling his cell phone number. He explained that because of all of the trouble he would like to send me a $100.00 gift certificate to their business that could be used at their nursery/produce stand. Against my better judgment I agreed to accept the gift cert. Not receiving the certificate as of September 23, I again called the office. I was very aggravated by this time, firmly demanding the original $50.00 deposit be returned immediately. [redacted] explained that she had already mailed the gift certificate last week. I explained that if I did not receive the certificate in the mail by Tuesday (we are less than 20 miles in distance) I would contact the Revdex.com; she then became very disrespectful and told me that she can't help the mail service. I explained that I had little faith in what I was being told and expected the $50.00 by Tuesday, Sept 24; she then laughed at me and stated that my problem is not the only thing she had to tend to. Today is Wednesday, Sept 25 11:39 pm. I have not received any form of reimbursement from this company, now waiting for 5 months.Desired Settlement: I want the original $50.00 deposit refunded; no more/no less. I want it no later than Friday, Sept 27, 2013.

After speaking with [redacted] from the company on 10/16/13 he stated a refund is in the process of being issued to the customer.

Review: On September 19, 2014 I ordered a car port thru Stafford Nursery. I was originally told the car port would be delivered in 6-8 weeks. On the 7th week I contacted the carport company per direction of the salesman to check status of delivery. At that point I was told delivery to me would be 10 - 12 weeks. I contacted Stafford Nursery and spoke with the salesman and informed him of my disappointment that the delivery went from 6 -8 week to 10 -12 weeks. He apologized for the miscommunication and I was told that thee only thing he could do at that point was offer me a refund. I informed him that I would wait the 12 weeks and if I did not have delivery by then that I would like a refund. After the 12 weeks I contacted the carport company as directed by Stafford Nursery to check status of delivery date. At that time I was told that delivery was going to be after the New Year of 2015. I tried to contact Stafford Nursery Numerous times and continued to get an answering machine. I left a message and telephone number each time requesting a return phone call and never got one. At that point I decided to go to their web site and fill out a contact form which I did. I explained my situation with the carport delivery as well as requesting return phone calls and not getting any. I asked that someone please return my call so that I may speak with someone regarding my cancellation of my order and returning my deposit that I was told would take place because of thee inconvenience I have gone thru. I still to this day have not received a phone call. They responded to me via email and stated that the salesman that sold me the carport is no longer with the company and that my contract that I signed was nonrefundable. I understand I signed a contract that stated my deposit was nonrefundable however I was also told delivery would be 6-8 weeks originally and then told 10-12 weeks. we are now into the 15th week and 5 days, I still do not have my carport and after contacting the carport company was just informed that delivery now is more towards the first week of February. That will bring me to 20 weeks from date of order. I think I have been more than patient. Especially since I continue to try and contact Stafford Nursery and continue to get no return phone calls or customer service.Desired Settlement: My deposit returned since I was originally told that would happen. I should not suffer because the salesman was fired/quit. Nor should I suffer from their lack of customer service of not returning phone calls.

Review: Stafford Nursery was hired to install sod. Was scheduled for 1st week of Apr 2015 and was installed may 29th. Weather was hot, and was not good sod. The contract we signed states the Nursery does not warranty the sod. I believe there are 2 reasons, first they have had issues in the past and it's a way to cover them from a refund from a bad install, and second is because they have no idea if the clients are watering the sod as needed. Improper watering will kill new sod in hot conditions. We watered and have many witnesses that will sign affidavits that saw us watering day and night for weeks. My yard looked terrible with dead grass and crab grass. I have since redone it all again myself, no dead grass or crab grass anywhere. If crab grass come from existing turf in the nursery sod, it would have came through again in my sod. I believe the Nursery installed a bad batch of sod, and per contract I am obligated to except it. I have spent almost $1700.00 again just for new sod alone, not including labor or equipment time. I am seeking just under 1/2 of the money back I spent to the nursery to cover my expenses for the second sod install I put down myself. We spent almost $4900.00 and am seeking $2000.00 in refund. We have no control of the actual sod the nursery has delivered, and the no warranty of the sod in the contract should be for the "Growing" of the sod. Basically that one little "Clause" in the contract lets them bring in any sod they want and we have to except it....it's just not right. They should give me the refund I am asking, and they should then go back to the sod company and try and get that money back...or find another sod company like I did.

Review: We ordered two sheds- an 8 X 12 garden shed and a 14 X 18 workshop on May 25, 2015. We were told someone would be in touch to schedule a time for them to come out and provide site work estimates. With no call, we attempted several times over the following weeks. We never received a return call and when we finally reached someone we were told they are short-staffed and have been busy. Still we attempted to schedule a time to meet- no meeting was ever scheduled and a representative showed up unannounced because he was "in the area". No estimate was ever given. We made several more attempts to clarify site work issues as well as to select customization for the workshop. Communication was terrible. We finally left a message saying we wanted to cancel our order and finally got a call back. We spoke with the owner who agreed that they'd had some issues with staffing and promised to personally oversee our transaction. That led to some movement, but in the end we again were waiting for calls that were never returned. When we called back after being told on a Wednesday we'd be getting a call "right back" and never spoke to anyone until we called the following Saturday we were told they planned to deliver one of the two sheds (although site work was not complete) and would be dropping the shed somewhere on the lawn because they did not want to make a trip out to do site work with an empty truck. We were never notified, would not have been home for the delivery, and would have been in violation of our HOAs covenants with the shed placed in the front lawn killing our grass. This company has gone above and beyond in their neglect of our transaction. They haven't built anything custom per our order, yet they refuse to allow us out of our contract to try to find a vendor who will be more responsive. We do not trust Stafford Nursery to complete the project as ordered or to deal with any issues that could arise during delivery or warranty periods.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of my deposit in the amount of $4,700.59.

Revdex.com spoke with the business. It was confirmed the customer is scheduled for delivery 10.29.15.

Review: We started working with Stafford Nursery in February 2013 to purchase a shed and wood fence. Someone was sent out to get the exact color of our home and match it with the vinyl siding for the order.

They additionally sold us the required "landscaping" for proper placement of the shed (cost of this "service" was $850). The workers showed up late one day - reeking of alcohol, and proceeded to create a place for the shed. It was CRITICAL this be level, and they guaranteed that it would be.

When the shed arrived at Stafford Nursery it was apparently ordered wrong, it did not have vinyl siding and the wood siding color does not match our home (with vinyl siding). We also noticed the doors were not closing, and the diamond kick-plate was damaged when they unloaded it at Stafford Nursery. After a lot of apologies, they decided to refund a portion of our bill (adjusted the price to the shed w/o vinyl) and assured us they were ordering a new plate to replace the damaged one. A week or so later they delivered the shed, still with a damaged plate, they said they would get it ordered and would come back and replace it (it is still there.. and damaged today).

The fencing was built, and nobody checked back with us concerning the project. There was a call from a female who claimed to be the "Owner" of Stafford Nursery checking up on our satisfaction. I told her we were not happy, the doors in shed do not close (apparently the pad we paid $850 to level... IS NOT LEVEL). I also brought up the damaged plate and that the gate on the fence is not hanging correctly. She assured me these things would be resolved. Never heard from her or Stafford Nursery again until late January of this year (2014).

Apparently there is still an outstanding balance due to them concerning the fence work done. Nobody ever followed up on ANY of the work done - so I am not surprised that something was missed. I was assured in February that someone will be in contact with me to get the issues resolved. it is NOW April 2014. All I continue to receive are brusque phone calls insisting that come in and make payment.

I am not even sure the legality of collecting on a bill for work that was not done a year later, seems like there should be a limit of 90 days.Desired Settlement: Either "make things right" - meaning finish the job, apologize, and find some middle-ground (or just outright dismiss what is "owed"), or leave us alone. Honestly, if we had realized there would have been all of these problems, we would have NOT accepted the messed up order in the first place and taken our business elsewhere.

Review: Stafford nursery built a fountain in our yard, late last fall. It leaks a lot. We have tried repeatedly to contact them. The owner, [redacted], has come out a couple of times and once in a while returns a phone call, but they have yet to make it stop leaking. It is getting worse. We are now having to fill it twice a day just to keep the pump running.Desired Settlement: At this point, either tear it down and replace it or tear it down and refund our money. ($2,800) If they only refund our money, we will still have a large concrete leaking structure in our yard.

Business

Response:

Revdex.com spoke with [redacted] from the company and he stated that he has been working regularly with the consumers to get the pond less waterfall fixed. They are not sure where the leak is coming from and they have done tests to see if they can find it. They decided to try a rubber liner and he will continue to work with the consumers to resolve the problem.
