Stamps Family Dentistry Reviews (%countItem)

I met Dr. *** in 1978 when I did my dental assisting clinical at his office while attending Gulf Coast College. I was his patient for nearly forty years. He was the best dentist and I never had a problem or compliant with him or his staff. He retired and Dr. Stamps acquired his practice. I had my first visit with her on January 3, 2018. My bridge needed to be re-cemented. When she was done she and the assistant left me and never returned to clean up the mess she left in my mouth. The cement hardened and I was in pain from the cement rubbing against my tongue and around my gumline. I contacted her office manager, Cheryl, who confessed that Dr. Stamps would never do such a thing as not clean up. I ask for a refund and she demanded my records from my new dentist (Dr. Stamps never mentioned how much this cost was going to be, I was shocked when I went to check out at the front office and hit with the $350.00 bill) I spent three hours the first visit at my new dentist's office as he and the hygienist were trying to remove the cement left behind by Dr. Stamps and her assistant. I also had to return two more times to my new dentist for the final removal of the cement. I have heard complaints about Dr. stamps from other patients of Dr. Futrell and they eventually left her and sought another dentist as I did.

Desired Outcome

Billing Adjustment $350.00-what I paid her for the service she did incorrectly. $250.00-what I paid for services to another dentist to correct her mistake and for the pain I endured.

We are disappointed to hear that you had concerns after the fact with your treatment. Dr. Stamps and her staff strive to provide the highest quality services in a friendly and inviting office at affordable prices.

In response to the complaint at hand, below is a detailed account of the treatment and subsequent contact with the patient. After careful review of the details the office has not been provided adequate information regarding the complaint (detailed below) and therefore regret to inform Ms. that we are not able to provide a refund or reimbursement for the services that were rendered and paid for.

Ms. *** contacted the office of Dr. *** Stamps on Tuesday January 2nd, 2018 to request an appointment regarding a "loose bridge". An appointment was scheduled for the next day, Wednesday January 3rd, 2018. Upon arrival for her appointment on January 3rd, the patient completed new patient paperwork. The last documented dental visit for this patient to Dr. *** was over two years ago on September 23rd, 2015.

The patient presented with the chief complaint of: "My bridge is loose." Clinical evaluation revealed a Fixed Partial Denture (FPD) for teeth #18-21. Patient reports FPD was placed in 1980s. FPD was very mobile and was able to be removed. Very little tooth structure was remaining on #18, and Dr. Stamps informed patient the only way to recement would be to retrofit a core buildup and then recement. Dr. Stamps informed the patient that this treatment would have a fair to guarded prognosis based on the lack of tooth structure remaining on #18. The patient verbally consented to treatment plan. Procedure was completed, #18 core buildup using 35% phosphoric acid etch, Scotchbond Universal bonding agent, and Filtek Bulk Fill Composite. FPD was recemented with Unicem 2 cement. Occlusion was checked and adjusted as needed. Patient was satisfied with treatment upon completion. No anesthetic was used for treatment as both teeth were previously root canal treated and patient reported no pain.

The patient proceeded to the Front Desk where she was presented with an invoice for $350 ($150: D6930 - Recement Fixed Partial Denture Tooth 18-21 and $200: D2950 Core Buildup Tooth 18). The patient paid the outstanding balance at that time. At no point during or immediately after her appointment did she express any concerns with the treatment or express any discomfort.

Nearly two months later, on Wednesday February 28th, the patient contacted our office to state that she had seen another dentist and would like to receive a full refund as well as have our office pay for her treatment at the new dentist. The patient was informed that we would be happy to see her in the office to re-evaluate the previous treatment and address any concerns. The patient declined this offer. The patient was informed that to better understand her complaint that Dr. Stamps would like to review the treatment notes and discuss with the attending dentist what treatment took place in their office. For this to take place, the patient needed to provide a signed records release. Ms. provided her email address and a release of records request was emailed to ***@***.net on February 28th, 2018.

As of May 31st, 2018, the patient has not returned to Dr. Stamps' office nor has she returned a signed release of records to speak with the attending dentist. At this point, the office has not been provided adequate information regarding the complaint and therefore regret to inform her that we are not able to provide a refund or reimbursement for the services that were rendered and paid for.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The doctor was not talking to me directly. She was telling this to her assistant. She never gave me a quote for this service and at the time I left I didn't have time to evaluate my mouth, sometimes after a dental procedure you don't feel the after affects of the things repaired until you leave the office. Yes, I paid for the service as I always do at my dental office. As far as returning to the doctor's office-No Way, it took me a while to find another dentist and he couldn't believe the mess dr stamps left my mouth in. Dr. Stamps can contact my dentist for his opinion on this. My dentist said this was a "rush" and go" visit. As for release of records, I did not respond until I had found a new dentist to verify my concerns. I am not the only patient at her practice that have complaints, I have heard other patients that left her practice because of her expensive treatment costs.
