Standard Construction & Landscaping, Inc. Reviews (2)

Standard Construction & Landscaping is by far the worst company I have experienced in 25-years of home ownership and 50+ in-home service providers. The owner presented himself as flexible and professional upfront, but that evaporated shortly after signing contract and making initial payments. Then I found them unreliable, disorganized, unresponsive, and unethical. Many, many unreturned calls and excuses to count. The finish project (100k) was average at best and not what I was promised or agreed to. I kept getting steered away from the materials that I actually wanted to his preferred products, which a suspect were more discounted to him. I only capitulated fearing the job would be abandoned by him (as I had paid 10-20% ahead) and I just wanted to end the relationship. Due to empirical and observable over charges, which were to be negotiated towards end of project, I refused to pay the last few thousand of dollars, as I was overcharged by several times that amount. Lastly, I found that the owner was particularly resistant to accept any responsibility for his mistakes and poor communication skills, which lead to early problems, that snowballed. There are too many other quality landscapers out there; so, I suggest to steer clear of this company.

Failure to obtain and satisfy permits needed for work. Also, failure to complete final details. Contract included applying and satisfying county permits for installation of patio, landscape, pergola. County required modification to account for water management regarding impervious area's. After completion, I made a punch list of minor issues with patio(resetting blocks, cleaning over splash of foundation tar). Submitted list to contractor but they never got back. In October 2013, finally spoke with contractor and they were out of town but would call when back in town. That was the last I spoke with them although I left several messages. Recently, I was informed from the county inspector that there was still an issue with unsatisfied permits, which have since expired, required for the installation of the pergola and drain field required for impervious areas. I learned about the permit issue in March 2015 and again tried to contact Standard Construction but was unable to get a response. In April I did get a text that they were out of town and would call when finally back but that was the last time I heard from them even after several phone calls and left messages. The work performed was nothing above good. Although the work turned out ok the company management is terrible.Desired SettlementDesire company to satisfy county permit requirements.Business Response On May 1, 2013 Standard Construction & Landscaping, Inc.entered into a contract with [redacted] & [redacted] to install a paver patio around a swimming pool which our Landscape designer designed at no charge, while working in conjunction with [redacted]. After going to contract with pool builder & Standard Construction & Landscaping Inc., homeowner decided to cancel the pool contract, but proceed with landscaping. It was the understanding of Standard Construction & Landscaping management that all permits had been acquired by pool builder & that impervious area was within restrictions, based on interaction with pool builder & homeowner. We proceeded with landscape installation, after patio was installed we were informed by the county that the impervious area had been exceeded. At this time we contacted the county and worked with a representative of the county to mediate the water. We filed for and received the permit to mitigate the water, trenched and installed pipe from all rear downspouts, and routed them into a water shed garden( location designated by the county), and filled with #57 gravel per county request. This area was then covered with dirt & mulch and later requested to be uncovered in 3 locations around perimeter to expose surfaces space and depth of watershed garden by a county representative. After inspection, these areas were covered back up. We had completed 2 previous comprehensive punch lists provided by homeowner. Homeowner created a third punch list after final payment was requested. Do to homeowner refusing to pay for any water mitigation or permitting fees which is required under article 5 General Provisions and Article 5-8 of the signed contract. Homeowner was in breach of contract due to refusal to pay for addition work and permit fees required by the county. Standard Construction & Landscaping chose to suspend all work until additional fees are paid per contract. Standard Construction & Landscaping is more than happy to assist the homeowner in resolving any water mitigation , permitting, or inspections as long as will pay all outstanding bills. Thank you, [redacted]
