My husband and I are both teachers in North Carolina National Teachers Associates Life Insurance Company came to our school and gave a presentation on the policies they offer during fall semester of I spoke with a representative (Cody [redacted] about the need for insurance that would provide disability pay after giving birth (I WAS NOT pregnant at the time, but my husband and I were trying) MrBrant signed me up for a policy and told me SPECIFICALLY that if I were to get pregnant before January 1, 2013, that I should wait to go to the doctor until after January 1, and the policy would still be valid I did get pregnant and found out in mid-December of I did not go to the doctor until AFTER January 1, However, once my daughter was born and I filed the claim, I was told this was a pre-existing condition and they would not pay my claim This representative, MrBrant, just wanted to make his commission for selling another policy and cheated us out of quite a bit of money in monthly premiums that were useless So disappointed and disgusted with this type of behavior To actively lie to clients who are public servants is pretty despicable

My mother purchased a policy with this company and faithfully paid in for over years Now, she is sick, and NTA life has deliberately delayed paying her claims month after monthThey routinely send information and correspondence to the wrong address, and claim they have sent payments when they have notFurther, they have failed to pay legitimately filed and properly documented expenses recognized under the Cancer policy my mom purchased
This is a total scam! Do yourself a favor, save your own money to pay for medical bills! NTAlife will not help youThey are waiting until she dies, hoping to get away with thisThey will notNot this time
This is fraudulent conduct, willful neglect of their duties under this policy

My husband and I are both teachers in North Carolina. National Teachers Associates Life Insurance Company came to our school and gave a presentation on the policies they offer during fall semester of 2012. I spoke with a representative (Cody [redacted] about the need for insurance that would provide disability pay after giving birth (I WAS NOT pregnant at the time, but my husband and I were trying). Mr. Brant signed me up for a policy and told me SPECIFICALLY that if I were to get pregnant before January 1, 2013, that I should wait to go to the doctor until after January 1, 2013 and the policy would still be valid. I did get pregnant and found out in mid-December of 2012. I did not go to the doctor until AFTER January 1, 2013. However, once my daughter was born and I filed the claim, I was told this was a pre-existing condition and they would not pay my claim. This representative, Mr. Brant, just wanted to make his commission for selling another policy and cheated us out of quite a bit of money in monthly premiums that were useless. So disappointed and disgusted with this type of behavior. To actively lie to clients who are public servants is pretty despicable.

Several months ago, I experienced identity theft. I received a notice that my disability policy had lapsed. Admittedly, I had not notified NTA of the new account #. An Agent came to my school and I asked him to help me. He called NTA customer service and he and I spoke with a rep. The rep was insensitive, implied that I was someone who was manipulating the situation for my benefit. One does not benefit from identity theft. I told the rep I would appreciate it if his sarcasm and rudeness could be toned down. I gave him my new checking account #, set up recurring payments, gave him my email, etc. This rep repeated it all back to me. A month or so later, I receive a notice my policy had lapsed. I discovered they had no record of a change in account #'s, and they had the wrong email address. I truly believe this guy deliberately "erased" all the information. Now, in January of 2016, another issue. I got an additional disability policy, paid on their website, set up recurring payments and received a premium notice. I went on the website and saw my policy had lapsed. Guess the recurring payment I set up didn't work??? I never received any notice saying it had lapsed. I emailed company and heard nothing back. Finally, I received a notice about the lapse, called customer service and again, they act as if I'm trying to get away with something. The website shows I made payments on the policy under "payment history" and the rep said, "This is a technical issue." Even though my account information on their website showed payments were made, nothing was taken out of my checking account. Customer service is poor, at best. The website lists inaccurate information which no one can explain, and the reps seem to interact with customers with no accountability. If you are looking for a short-term disability policy as a teacher, I would highly recommend you research and find another company.
