Review: Stasi Brothers did the steps going up to my house. They used pavers. On four of the pavers rust-looking stains came out. I called [redacted](who took the order). He came and looked at the steps and told me they would come and redo those steps. No one showed up. During the winter these stains got larger. Again I called the company. I told [redacted] that I had extra pavers and was willing to pay for the labor. He said he would take care of it. I called at least 4 more times. No one ever showed up, and the stain keeps growing.Desired Settlement: Just come and replace the pavers (which I have). I am willing to pay for the labor.

Review: They removed my driveway and sidewalk seven weeks ago. They were supposed to install my driveway three weeks later. They refuse to give me a date (the office staff) and the owners have never returned any of my calls.Desired Settlement: Install my blacktop before it shows. Like now.

Response:

Hello [redacted],I looked into this complaint and found that this job was already completed. Thank you, Sal K[redacted]

Review: We contracted with Stasi for approximately $11,000 in cement work, including a sidewalk, walk, driveway, and patio. The work was to replace broken and cracked cement, especially the patio. In less than a year the patio was cracked in the same place. They put cement over the existing patio to same material and work. At the time I asked if that wouldn't cause a crack in the same place. I was assured it would not. The second issue is the sidewalk portion. Our neighbor waters every day. I asked Stasi to put up a barrier to prevent the constant watering from preventing the cement from curing. I was assured, again it would not be an issue. The two sidewalk squares on that side have never cured and are cracking.

I brought this to their attention, on multiple occasions both in writing and voice mail, requesting they fix the sup-par work and damaged areas. I received two returned messages, promising to answer my grievance. After I returned the second message, I have heard nothing from them. It has been a month since their last answer. It has been five months since my first contact. It is now more than a year since the work was done.Desired Settlement: Repair the damaged portions at no further cost.

Apology for causing stress and anxiety. Site visit by [redacted] and [redacted] of corporation so that he may be aware of the situation of how his managers, craftsman and laborers perform their duties.

Review: We signed a contract with Stasi brothers 7/**/13 to complete two stone walkways, the removal of an old asphalt driveway with the replacement of a concrete one, a paver patio, leveling the backyard with a bobcat and capping a side and front stoop with pavers. When we first made the appointment we were told 4-6 week timeframe that the work was to be done in. We waited to have the workers show up and due to weather and other jobs, it was pushed back. The work finally began in September. While doing the work, we were inside the house at the time and heard a loud bang. When we went outside all of the workers were on the front lawn eating lunch and the first thing we saw in the backyard was damage that was done to our brand new white vinyl fence that we only had for one month. They were using a bobcat to dig out and remove old tree roots from ones we had removed to level the yard before putting down the patio. The bobcat hit the fence so hard that a slat from the panel popped out and was dented and scratched. Upon closer inspection of our property, another fence post in the backyard had several deep scratches in it, the aluminum siding on the house had a large dent (which is still there) and there were scuffs and scrapes on the large gate posts at the back of the house. We tried asking the workers about it but they said to call [redacted] who was our [redacted]. We also on the same day, called our fence company who had just completed the work one month before, to provide us with an estimate of what it would cost to fix the fence. We were told to replace the slat and the digging up, removal and replacement of the fence post was $200. I explained this to [redacted] and he insisted that I wait until the work was finished and for his fence guy to come. He gave us a lot of excuses that with it being in the elements, things would happen to the fence no matter what, that he didn't think it was that bad and maybe we should just leave it. We insisted that it be fixed so he told us he would schedule to have his fence guy come and do it. After the job was completed and we had paid, still no fence repair. It took a month after the job was finished to have them come. They flipped the slat around and reinserted it into the fence instead of replacing it, claiming that was what they were told to do. So it is still damaged and inside the fence, just turned around. When I approached them about the post they said they were never told. I had to have them wait for [redacted] to come and figure it out. We waited about an hour, when [redacted] got there, the fence worker told him that they could not replace the fence post because it was too much work and they didn't want to be responsible if it wasn't level. So after waiting a month, we had a slat that was flipped around, and still had a scratched fence post that I had to call my fence contractor that installed it, about. [redacted] said to call him after the our fence company fixed it and he would try to reimburse us for it. It is now May of 2014. We had called after the fence was completed in october of 2013 and it no calls were ever returned. I had also told [redacted] about us getting water in the garage because there used to be a small concrete curb in front of the garage door that kept water out. This was removed by Stasi brothers when they put down the driveway and one was never put back. [redacted] did come to inspect it and took our garden hose, spraying water at the garage, aimed to the side. Then said, "see no water" and then started trying to sell me on replacing the floor in the garage. Using a garden house for less than 5 minutes, that you are controlling, is in no way what happens when it rains. Water pools and with the slope of the driveway, water is directed in front of the door and winds up inside, sometimes to the middle of the garage. We still have this problem from October 2013 until now. To our disappointment, this March of 2014, we began noticing significant cracks in the driveway. Out of 6 segments that make up the driveway, we have 4 that are damaged. There is chipping up of the concrete where it meets the wood expansions, a large crack going the whole width of the driveway, one coming out from under the side stoop and a large crack across the whole segment in front of the garage in an "x" pattern. We contacted Stasi brothers on April [redacted] to see what we can do about the repair. No one returned our calls. We emailed them on April [redacted] and [redacted] later on attempted to return our call while we were at work. We got alerted of the voicemail and called back within 10 minutes, he was not at his desk and we left a message. He emailed us to say that he called. I sent emails of pictures to [redacted] of the damage and we have not heard anything further. We called the office back and explained that we have cracks in the driveway and if there is someone else we can speak with, the [redacted] insisted we leave another message for [redacted]. We are extremely upset that we spent the amount of money we did to have the driveway only last 5 months before this kind of damage started to occur. If the level of work and concrete that they claim they used actually was, there is absolutely no reason why I should have the driveway deteriorating this quickly. They have terrible customer service in terms of keeping their word, properly resolving a problem, getting back to anyone or returning calls. This quote from their website " Our goal is quality and the complete satisfaction of you, our customer" does not at all match the kind of service we have received from this company. Even at this point with all the trouble we have had with this company and reading other complaints, we are skeptical of whether or not they can repair the work or that we can trust them to do so and that it will hold up for years to come. ( We have photos and documentation of all damage to the fence, house, water in the garage and cracks in the driveway.Desired Settlement: a refund or agreed upon partial refund of what we paid for the driveway to have another company repair it and replace the curb in front of the garage door, as well as the $200 that we had to pay to fix our fence that was damaged by their workers.

Business

Response:

We were contracted to install a driveway for the [redacted]’s

last year. They had found us through a neighbor that we had also done concrete

work for. I had given the estimate and recall mentioning that an all brick

driveway would not be much more money and would give better value and

longevity. They insisted that they wanted concrete and that they preferred that

look. We did the work and I even did some extra work that they loved, that I

didn’t charge them for. I wanted to do some heavy grading for them in the back

because I had my machine there and knew that grass was never going to grow if I

did not help them. I had my men clear out all the roots and debris (I am not

sure if I even charged for this part). The machine scratched a small section (approx..

2”) of the fence and post. We went back and reversed the one section of fence so

it was facing the neighbor’s property and not the [redacted]’s. Disturbing the

section of post, in order to replace it, might have caused other issues. I

tried to explain that I had done more than a few hundred dollars in extra work on

the project that I didn’t charge for and if she wouldn’t mind living with a

small scratch all the way on the back

post. [redacted] didn’t seem to be able to understand my flexibility and

wanted it replaced. Even though it was an extremely small scratch and I offered

to reimburse them if they insisted on replacing the piece.

I had gotten a message earlier this year and returned

their call. I am not aware of their schedule if they are working or not but I

left a message as is customary.

Please note that we are a seasonal business and get completely swamped in the

springtime. My message clearly states at the time that I may need a few days to

get back to you. I also had sent them an email or two. We have been around for

over 50 years and are not in the business of ignoring or not getting back to

anyone.

I ended up stopping by and seeing the issues. I told her I

would research and go over the issues and get back to them. When I got back

into the office I saw the complaint and got completely upset that they would

resort to filing a complaint while I am trying to help them.

Concrete cracks due to traffic, shifts in land, [redacted]t, ice, extreme

weather, etc., which is why it is clearly stated on our propo[redacted]s that we do

not guarantee concrete. It is not only I, but general practice in the industry

that concrete is not guaranteed. It wasn’t soon after but after a few months

and especially after such a tough winter with over 15 extreme freeze/thaw

cycles.

Since I cannot make it rain, when there is an issue of

ponding, we take a hose and try to mimic it. The water did not seem to go into

the garage no matter how much we tried. If she believed otherwise she could

have asked me or demonstrated differently . Sometimes driving rain may get

water into the garage, that is simply an act of nature and cannot be avoided.

As far as damage to the house, it is 50 year old aluminum

siding. If I can find a piece I can try to fix it, but from what I was lead to

understand from them, it wasn’t a big deal because it was getting replaced sometime

in the near future.

I am very reasonable and was

trying to come up with a good solution for you but was upset after I saw your

filed complaint.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

After trying to resolve the issues of our driveway cracks,

waiting to be reimbursed for our fence damage and continual water in the garage

and not getting any closer to a solution, we found it necessary to find a

mediator. I don’t think bringing

personal feelings into a business relationship or holding a grudge is

professional, nor warranted in this case.

Yes, we received a response but not one word was mentioned

about the main problem, the cracks in the driveway and how to fix it.

I do not think it is the correct place of any business to

judge a client and their financial situation saying that if we paid “a little

more” to the company which was actually quoted to be about a $2,000 difference

that we could have avoided the situation with the concrete cracking, if we went

with pavers. That warning was not stated to us when we signed the contract with

the choice of concrete. We asked for quotes to find out the price difference to

replace with asphalt which is what we had, concrete and all pavers. We chose

the middle of the road, and what we can afford. I do not think we are at fault

by making that decision.

Never once did the company ever sympathize with us, the

customer, about the damage to our property. Every homeowner wishes to protect

the financial investments that they add to their property. Anyone else would

have been just as upset to see things like a fence and siding that are

unrelated to the concrete work, get damaged in the process.

Being flexible means

being able to work with several resolutions to a problem, that was not the

case. We were told to use their company, flip the pieces, not replace them and

[redacted] tried his hardest to convince us to leave it be and not replace it. He had

told me that when we replace it whether it be then in the fall or later on in

the spring, let him know we have the bill from the fence company and we will

get the money back, in September 2013. The company just stated “and I offered to

reimburse them if they insisted on replacing the piece. “ So why

are we still waiting to be reimbursed? The company does not seem in any rush to

take care of it. We called about it and left messages back in October of 2013

regarding this, still nothing. If it was new, it should stay new. The crew should

have taken more care to make sure these kinds of accidents did not happen, or

notified us the moment they did since we were home. We should not have had to

discover them ourselves. We should not be forced to live with and look at

something that is damaged.

We never said we were going to replace the siding. Whether

it was replaced in 5 months or 5 years, that is up to us, the homeowner when we

feel it is necessary or not at all. We were told by [redacted] that because it was old

we probably would want to replace it and it wasn’t worth fixing. Nothing was

mentioned about him trying to find a piece to replace it. We cannot understand

why the company would never take responsibility, offer an apology and admit

that they had an accident while performing the work and notify us when it

happened. We should not be the ones trying to chase after the company for

resolution, that just isn’t fair or good business practice. We are the ones

that have to live with the work and the ones who had to pay for it.

We contacted the company the day that we first noticed the

crack in the driveway, under the ice in March. It was 5 months after we had

work done when we began having these major issues. Nothing has been said if it

can or cannot be fixed or what we as homeowners, or even them as the business

could do about the cracks. [redacted] came to the house to take his own pictures and

said he would get back to us at the end of the week after speaking to his

engineer, which was 5 weeks ago. Apparently he is saying we didn’t hear back

because he saw we filed a report?

We filed a report over 5 weeks ago, that is how long it took

for you to respond to us in any way, and that is the reason that you did not

call us back? Because you are upset? How is that working towards a solution? We

have been waiting for your response and solution after speaking with your

engineer. I think we have been more than patient, understanding and reasonable

to work with you and wait for answers which we have yet to receive. If anyone should be upset, it should be us.

To be honest hardworking people who spent a lot of money to improve their home

only to be left with a mess is not something anyone should have to go through

when dealing with a contractor.

In over 30 years that my family had the old driveway and curb

in front of the garage, no act of nature, EVER caused water to get inside the

garage. Now it does. I explained that to [redacted] when he came to the house. All he tried to do was sell me on a new

garage floor that his company could install.

We never asked for free work, or extra bricks or pleaded

with the company for acts of charity. If they did something of their own will

to be nice, that’s great. If we had an issue with something that was free we wouldn’t

have complained, but why aren’t we talking about the work we paid almost

$14,000 for? That is the work that is defective. The grading of the yard was itemized on our

agreement and was paid for with all of the other work. Doing extra work to be nice, does not give

you something to hang over the customer’s head as an excuse not to fix things

that your crew damaged.

At this point, the underlying problems still remain and have

been avoided by the company through their responses. We still would like the main issues of the

$200 for our damaged fence, the water in the garage and the cracks/chipping of

the driveway to be addressed and properly resolved. If this is something the

company no longer wishes to work with us on, we would like a financial

reimbursement for the amount of money to fix these issues. We have been more

than willing to work with the company all along but their lack of communication

and ability to get to the issues at hand left us with no other choice but to

take action to resolve these issues in a more timely manner.

Response:

Again, as our contract clearly states “NOT RESPONSIBLE for cracks or any other defect in concrete”. The reason that we cannot guarantee concrete is because of its unstable nature when it comes to environmental changes, such as extreme temperatures (especially after the winter we experienced) and the movement and settling of the ground. But as a courtesy to [redacted], we will return to replace two or three cracked areas in his driveway and patch two chipped areas, with no charge to him. We will absorb the cost, which by the way, far exceeds the cost of the scratch to his fence. Again, we are not required to repair concrete, but we will do so in good faith. Would would also appreciate any adjustment of negative comments.

This is a one time courtesy, and we cannot cover any future concrete issues that may arise. Since we are covering the entire cost of this non warrantee repair, no other monetary obligations will be covered. If agreed, we will schedule and perform this repair by November **, 2014.

Please get back to us and let us know if this can be resolved as stated.

Thank you,

Consumer
