Statewide Fence Co. Reviews (3)

Review: Statewide Fence had our fences installed on June 16 2014. To our surprise, we found one side of the fence installed in my neighbor’s property. On the day of installation, I showed the fence installation guy survey of the house and requested to install the fences within the boundary of our property. We did the measurement together: 8 ft from right side and 12 ft from left side of the house (facing the house). After the installation finished around 8pm, I went to work and came back home 2 days after on June 19. The fence on the left side was installed properly-11 ft away from our house but the fence on the right side was 9ft 4in away from our house. My neighbor is selling his house and will have survey done soon with the new buyer. I called Statewide Fence and spoke to [redacted] about the issues. He said that it was my fault since I did not put any survey stakes (although he told me it was unnecessary when he gave me the quote) and that I should have measured the fence afterwards. [redacted] says that I need to pay $300 for the labor to move the fence and they will have someone come and moved our fence this week. Since I do not want the fence in my neighbor’s property, I agree to pay for the labor. I do not want to point any fingers although we think Statewide Fence employees should be professional enough to measure and install the fence properly ( I saw the mark where [redacted] put for 8 ft but the fence was installed 1 ft away from that mark). I called [redacted] a few times but he never gave an exact date when they would move the fence. He just kept saying sometimes this week but this week is almost over. It really leaves me hanging in the air. I am really disappointed with the service. When I mailed in the check to have the fence installed, they could give a date right away. But now they could not give me a date when they will relocate the fence. If a mistake is made, they should help us correct the mistake and install the fence properly in our property.Desired Settlement: I want Statewide fence to set up a date to have our fence move back to our property as soon as possible and make sure the fence is installed accurately and properly.

Response:

We have been in contact with [redacted] and scheduled a date of July 11, 2014 from which she returns from vacation, to remove the fence from the neighbor's property line and reinstall it on hers. She seemed satisfied with our response.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID

[redacted] and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I am glad that Statewide Fence Co. stands behind their labor

warranty. Initially they wanted to charge us $300 for the labor but the owner

of the company waived the charge. Statewide Fence responded promptly after our

complaint and gave us a date to have the fence reinstalled. My fence was

finally reinstalled back in my property line yesterday. I thank Revdex.com and Statewide

Fence for finally resolving this matter.

Review: Within a month after statewide installed my new and very expensive fence, the wood began to deteriate. On many occassions they responded to my numerous phone calls, e-mails and letters with promises to inspect the fence, stand behind their work and repair as needed, but they never followed through!Desired Settlement: Statewide should inspect the fence and repair or replace defective wood and installation.

Response:

To Whom It May Concern,

We never received letters from Mr. [redacted]. Not sure what address he was sending them to. We responded to all of his emails and phone calls. We explained that we would come out soon to look at the fence. But in the mean time, as per our attached contract, Statewide Fence can not be held responsible for the natural changes in the wood fencing. Our Sales rep, [redacted], contacted Mr. [redacted] and informed him that he would come out to look at his fence when he had time. We went out to look at the fence and did see the wood imperfection in two spots. We ordered the fence parts that have wood knots in them and will go out to change them by the end of next week. There was no issue with the labor or installation of the fence. We did not refuse to respond to his complaints. The quality of our work was 100% we can not control the natural changes in the wood and we will make Mr. [redacted] happy by replacing the pieces. Thank you.

I am rejecting this response because: it is blatantly untrue, inaccurate and incomplete!

First, two letters were mailed to the company, The initial one was sent directly to their business address at [redacted], on May 31, 2013 , and their representative [redacted] DID respond to it by phone and e-maill. After reviewing the pictures of the deteriorating wood -which were sent to him at his request, he repeatedly promised by phone and e-mails (I have the copies of his e-mails) to come and inspect the fence, stating that Statewide stands behind the quality of their product and that any defective wood would be replaced. A month went by, and the company failed to do anything but made empty promises, as I again and again contacted [redacted] with my growing concern that the fence staining, being put off awaiting the company's promised action, might enhance the fences deterioration. My second letter was mailed to the home of the company's apparent president, [redacted], with a copy to their [redacted] office. That letter was NOT answered or returned from the post office so presumably it was delivered and dismissed!

Soon after my initial complaint was filed with you (Revdex.com), the company's sales representative [redacted] called me on two occassions. The first time he stated that he had noticed my "file on the desk" for quite a while and wanted to know what was happening. After explaining it to him, he promised to check things out? Finally, last week, he called me again and said that he had given the fence a thorough inspection and only found one defect around a knot, and that the wood would be replaced. This statement is ridiculous because at that time, due to the fact that the staining of the fence was put off again and again due to [redacted]'s FALSE PROMISES to stand behind the company's work, the fence has in fact become so dried out that in addition to my initial problems (due to ithe deterioration of the inferior wood), the fence has 29+obvious issues of splitting and of nails popping through!

Regardless of any position Statewide takes, the obvious fact is, that although they are a well established company , they have left this consumer high and dry after having delivered a defective product that failed to remain intact almost from the onset of its' completion, costing me $6,740.00 and a lot of disappointment!

Response:

As of 9/6/13 we have replaced the rails to his fence (pics attached). Even though as stated in the last answer and in our contract, there is no guarantee on wood products. We had a scheduling issue and when I answered the first complaint, I thought a crew went out to change the rails. After we learned that they didn't, we replaced them out of good faith.

I am rejecting this response because:although the written contract does state that the wood used is not guarnteed, the company representatives verbally stated on many occassions that being a well established business they would stand behind their work. However, all that they have replaced-after many delays over several months-were the first two pieces of their construction which had failed - within a month of its' errection! They have not addressed the numerous other defective portions of the fence (at last count over 60), even after several pictures of the deteriating wood had been provided. In fact their sales rep's response was that his "thorough exam" of the fencing only showed the 2 defects they (finally) have replaced, dismissing the other, which leads me to the conclusion that a proper examination of their inferior work never happened!

Review: Left a gaping hole (approximately 2' x 2') between the fence and the house when they installed my new fence. Although they promised to fix it, they never did. I called numerous times and waited almost 2 months. Eventually I had to do the fix myself with chicken wire because my dog kept getting out of the yard. They also installed the gate to open backwards which interferes with my garbage pail placement, hose, etc.Desired Settlement: I want the gate lock reversed so it is opens and closes on the left like it was on my old fence. I also want more stable fencing put in where I have the chicken wire. An apology for all my troubles would be nice too.

Business

Response:

We have fixed the hole the customer is referring to. It was not a part of the original contract which was replacing the old fence but we want to satisfy our customers so we added the piece free of charge. We tried contacting Mrs. [redacted] to discuss the gate issue and have not heard a response. A representative will be going to her house by the end of this week to speak with her and fix what ever needs to be fixed to satisfy her needs. We truly apologize for any inconvenience we are still inundated from storm damage and are trying the best we can.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I just want to say that although it was not part of the original contract both I and the statewide representative admitted that it was an oversight as the area is not easy to see. My issue was that I even offered to pay for the hole to be fixed and told them that I would accept different materials (i.e. wood instead of aluminum, and it took a complaint to Revdex.com to get it fixed, but not after I had to try and fix it myself which gave me alot of cuts and scratches. But (thanks to you all), they they did fix it, as well as the reversed gate latch. As for not returning their call, why would I want to speak to the same individual who jerked me around for the past 2 months. I answered a call from a different individual (the office manager - a lovely and apparently competent man) he resolved the situation completely. I thank you and statewide for finally resolving this matter.
