Status Contracting Inc Reviews (1)

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/10/21) */
I am surprised at the reviews content as the points addressed vary from the facts.
1) The vanity light seems to be an issue, which "shouldn't be" as the placement of the vanity was always to be against the wall, because the customer bought a...

side slash. Plus the vanity was set for days with no mention of "moving" the light.
2) The tile was a small patch to be connected to the existing 50 tear old tile to cover the space left by the smaller vanity. The tile was in for 2 days as it had the set and I had the customer OK the placement and spacing before grouting.
3) The paint job was done with care and I did use tape. The touch ups were addressed before I left. As stated to the customer "I would be glad to come back" and address any other touch ups. This is included in the scope of work as "punch lists" standard procedure. I would have came back as many times as necessary.
4) The caulk was silicone which was used to water proof around the shower door (which was the cause of the remodel). The customer did not like the look, so I took the time to apply latex caulk and paint up to the door, which still kept it water proof and pleasing to the eye.
5) I provide a extremely detailed Proposal before starting work and have pricing next to "every line item" All additional work is addressed through a"Change Order" which is itemized the same way and signed be both parties before work is performed. I took the time to clarify the numbers on a Sunday and reconciled the numbers.
6) As for email responses...I responded immediately and gave an explanation. It did take a few days to get back with the customer as this time of year is very busy.
7) Summary: The customer received exemplary service from myself and team. The products choose by the customer, were picked up, delivered, installed to the exact specifications of the customer whom micro managed the whole process, demo work was efficient and cleanly. The start date was honored, as was the pricing. My team was respectful, pleasant, and courteous. We completed two bath remodels in 4 weeks even with waiting for the special order items to arrive. The customer complimented us on our work ethic and results. The work was inspected daily with logistics addressed on the spot. I emailed/called with time lines and completion dates. The customer baked us cookies, offered us sodas, and interacted with appreciation for our hard work and diligence. I am somewhat surprised with this complaint. I maintain the highest integrity possible when completing a project and go the extra mile when needed. I have always and will always keep the customers best interest a priority.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/10/23) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I agree with contractor he has different recollection of facts .
Going forward I will refer contractor as CT to save time.
I am amazed the shoddy vanity light installation is now Clients fault. Clients hire contractors to do proper installs. We made a
wrong choice.
CT sent email on 10/12 saying " this is one of the details that escaped US while switching vanities in concentration of plumbing accessibility". On 10/18 CT says "this wasn't discussed before moving vanity, it's an oversight on BOTH of
our parts. (So had we discussed, should we have asked you
to please install light on center instead of off center?) This is clearly a CT responsibility. Of course it's an issue, it looks terrible.
I apologize to Revdex.com for some repetitions but I feel compelled to
debunk CT false claims.
Again, CT offered us option A) place vanity against wall, B) or
place 6" out from wall. No mention that one (A) would require
having light fixture move by 4" as it was off center. So rather
than CT stopping at the point he was going to install new light,
at that time surely he could see it was off whack. This would have been the time (discovery) we could have discussed and
made changes. But NO, he not only didn't stop and tell us he
had a problem, he went ahead and installed it off center. This was late on his last day with us. He left without telling us what he did. Who would knowingly choose this? Oh but he did take time to shove the bill across the table, sign here and give me check. ( We have attached copies of emails and picture of light.)
Tile was poorly installed! Poorly pieced, spaced badly, 5/8 " as opposed to 1/4" off by 3/8". Looks bad but not as bad as approx 5/8" x 5/8" piece of missing tile that was not cut and replaced but simply filled with dark grout on white tile. CT told me he "didn't cut a small piece to fill the space ". I have not seen such poor tile work even in old buildings. Our existing tile is closer to 10 years old as opposed to 50 years old as CT exaggerates in snarky remark. (We have uploaded picture)
Paint was not done well, We kindly pointed out deficiencies to
CT. We are confident they would not have been corrected had
we not done so. CT does NOT like to hear constructive comment about CT work, even in the form of "please fix this".
Not approachable. (Picture of paint attached)
Caulk in first bath was about 1" wide on left side, smeared and
caked. Was ok on right side. CT laughed said he could have done better job. He fixed it, let's see if it holds up.
Copy of "extremely detailed" proposal attached. No pricing next to every line. Add ons were NOT signed off by client and CT before start. CT invoices have inconsistent dates for start and finish. Very unclear. CT doesn't like questions about these either.
On our two requests for explanation (resolution) of bad install on lights we were "blown off" 10/12 with "I am driving, we'll talk later and second request was ignored completely until we complained almost a week later. This DOES NOT sound like someone who would be "happy" to return to fix anything. And it
would be accompanied by a big charge for CT error.
(Copy of email attached)
Summary
Some of the work was shoddy. Paint, caulk and tile for sure.
We started our ok on the first bathroom. Which took more like 4 weeks and bath two took 1 week. Although time wasn't an issue with anyone as we recall. Better to take time and do it correct first time. We noticed CT errors happened mostly on days that CT worked long hours (8-9). CT team (1) was pleasant enough to work with. On the last week CT was under
CT own pressure. The vanity was set near the end of the week, not days earlier as CT claimed, at the end of CT second to last day I found issues with bad paint job, wall prep, tile, we were concerned CT would not allow time to correct so we took pictures and sent to CT with email so CT would plan enough time to finish them. We were skeptical CT could finish properly. It was a mediocre job. To get near the end of a big project where there was lots of money, planning, time and anticipation
only to find it was important only to us is a huge let down.
I can't get answers to
When CT went to install light certainally CT knew at that time it was off center, why, did CT not stop at that time and tell client there is a problem, would be much easier to fix then.
Instead CT KNOWINGLY installed a light off center
Then CT KNOWINGLY places invoice in front of client
to sign here, hand over check, and leaves WITHOUT DISCLOSING! This point, deception is what we can't
get past.
Oh, CT thinks we baked cookies just for him. We baked for a
donation event. CT commented what CT favorite cookie was.
We offered him, as we would and have done with anyone who
works at our home.
As far as we are concerned, buyer beware. This CT did not go the extra mile. We are not 110 pct satisfied, beyond our expectations? not in a good way, no stress? No way.
CT seems to be impressed CT finished project on time. Good for CT. We aren't done, we are hiring CT to fix what was done as well as pay for it again.
There will be no referrals from this home.
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2015/11/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
As we said earlier, we are not interested in having this contractor back. He dissapointed us with quality of work and by not being forthright about his botched installation of vanity light.
We are through here, in the interest of time, we are closing this
complaint not because we agree with him.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/11/02) */
At SCI we strive to meet the customers requests and would have rectified the "finish work" i.e. "punch list" items and any other concerns.
I offered to come back if there was any touch ups or concerns and still would.
Thanks- SCI
