Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:After speaking with a State Trooper officer at the [redacted] police station, I've learned that the tool company must take the car to the shop requested by the car's owner, the only reason they would take back to their shop, is if the owner doesn't have a shop to take his car.  Also, I believe if I am paying for my car to be tolled, I have the right to have it taken to the location of my desire, the driver should take into consideration, that he was answering the call for my car, and any other emergency call, would have to wait the completion of my call, in responding to the other call without finishing my service, he added to me all of the extras charges incurred with my car being dropped at his shop.  As far as having numbers of his shop on both doors of his car, it does not gives him the right of not giving my wife all of the information pertaining to his shop, it is not my fault if the driver only took into consideration the amount of more money that he was going to make rushing to another call.  I've had cars tooled before. and never before had anything like this happened to me, I should be reimbursed for the total amount of what I paid, because this a paid service, and as the costumer, I have the right to have my car tolled to the location that I wish, As far of the state trooper, he stayed in his car and did not interfere with anything that was going on.  I am trying to resolve this situation without going to any legal instances, but if required, I am ready to do so.
Regards,

Review: My wife and I took our 2006 vehicle to this business for a wheel alignment for a quoted price between $100 and $150 Dollars.

The mechanic that worked on our car experienced a problem with getting a bolt or nut loose and ended up having to weld something on the car to "make it safe". we were told that we would need bring the car back another day while he ordered the part. When we brought the car back later that week for them to do the alignment, again the mechanic experienced similar difficulties and had to cut something off the car and again get a replacement part. At no time were we ever informed of the revised cost of the alignment, even though my wife asked the mechanic directly for an estimate. The mechanic simply responded stating "he didn't know".

This garage was highly recommended by our regular mechanic, so there was a level of trust based on the recommendation.

After having the car for an additional 3-1/2 days, we were presented with a bill for over $1,545.00 for the alignment.

At no time during the course of the repair were we ever informed of the rising costs. We were also never given the opportunity to either stop the work or take the car some place else. My wife called numerous times to inquire about the status of the alignment, but the mechanic simply told her that they were still working on the car. Upon receiving the bill, I called the business and spoke to the owner. I was informed by the owner that the bill must be paid in full before he would release the car to us. I asked the owner if he was willing to reduce the bill and was told "no" he would not reduce the bill. In my opinion, it is unethical for a business to not disclose the enormous cost of a service due to their own difficulties with getting the job done.

My current issue is that we need the car back and don't have the luxury of time to dispute the bill. I will attempt to work something out with the owner but feel I'm left with little options but to pay the bill to get our vehicle back.Desired Settlement: I believe the garage should be compensated for "some" of the extra time spent on our car, but to receive a bill for 10 times what we expected is unreasonable and unethical. Some of the extra time spent is simply the cost of doing business.

We should have been informed of the rising costs and given the opportunity to halt the repair. I would be willing to pay 50% of the labor and cover his costs of the parts. This is what I would like to see happen.

Response:

On Wednesday evening I felt I had no choice but to file a complaint against Steckel’s Inc. located in Belvidere, NJ. My wife and I met with the owner of the business Thursday, late afternoon, and reached an agreement. The issue has been resolved to my satisfaction. The resolution was very close to what I had hoped would happen. After sitting down with the owner, we were able to work things out and I consider the matter closed After talking with the owner, I do consider him to be a good and honest business owner who was just in a tough position due to the issues he experienced working on my vehicle.I’m satisfied with the work they did and with the agreement we reached concerning the bill. I will consider using his services in the future. If possible, please forward this to the business owner.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
