I found Steel City Granite to be incompetent with regard to the measuring and installation of my kitchen counter tops. I also found them to be rude and unprofessional when asked to remedy the problem.
On September 22, the owner of the company came to my home to measure my counter tops. They returned on October 3rd for installation. The backsplash and the top shelf were incorrectly measured and had to be returned to be recut. The installation of one of the countertops was so crooked that proper installation of the backsplash would have been impossible.
Reasonable efforts to reach the company for relief resulted in accusations of harassment and the threat of criminal charges. My contractor was told that if he came to the office seeking to talk to the manager after getting no where with the secretary, the police would be called. Concerned about his safety, I called the headquarters in Youngstown. The owner, whose mistake caused the problem, returned my call only to hang up on me when I took exception to his calling my contractor, who he has never met, a profane name.
My contractor is a perfect gentleman with impeccable character and integrity. The rudeness and unprofessionalism exhibited toward him and me was totally unwarranted and unfair. I believe in treating people with dignity and respect. As humans, we all make mistakes, however honesty and integrity demand that we admit our mistakes and move to correct them without rudeness and name calling.
Apparently Steel City Granite does not understand this principle. I would never recommend them to anyone.

Review: On October 28, 2015, I contracted with Steel City Granite to install new countertops in my kitchen. I paid them a deposit of $1,400.00 in cash and the install date of set up for September 21, 2015. On September 21, 2015, employees of Steel City broke my slab of granite, only installing 18 square feet of my countertop, leaving approximately 23 square feel of granite uninstalled. This 23 square feet section included the kitchen sink that was included in my install price. On that same day, my husband picked out a new slab of granite and I notified Steel City of our decision. After nearly a week without a return phone call or any information regarding my replacement countertops, I contacted the granite supplier who informed me that no attempt was made to have my new slab sent to Steel City for fabrication. On September 26, 2015 the owner of Steel City Granite informed me that he was not going to complete the job and walked away with our money. I even called back and offered to pay him for the amount of granite that he did install in my home if he would refund the difference. He refused this offer leaving me no choice but to file charges against him to get my money back.Desired Settlement: Steel City Granite broke our business contract and I want my entire deposit of $1,400.00 paid to me in full. I paid in cash because they offered a lower price if I paid in cash. I had to contract with another granite company to finish to job, at a higher price than I would have had to pay had Steel City honored the contract. I am also requesting that they pay the added expense that I had to incur by contracting with a new supplier to finish the job. This is a difference of $300.00

Response:

To whom it may concern,

Review: Ordered granite kitchen counter tops from Steel City Granite and they cut out the wrong size sink. I refused delivery of the granite and have contacted the company several times. Steel City Granite initially told me that I had to live with the mistake they made, latter they said they would follow-up with me and now will not return my phone calls. I provided a $780.00 cash deposit, which I have the receipt for.Desired Settlement: I would like my $780.00 refunded to me or have the counters delivered with the correct sink cutout.
