Steel City Radon Reviews (13)

About 2 years ago my neighbor was selling his house and he found that the radon was above the acceptable levels so he had a radon system installed as a requirement of the sale. I began to think that if my neighbor right next door had a radon problem I did also. after performing a test I started looking for a mitigation company, a friend suggested I call Steel City Radon, I a very glad I did the owners Sue and Mike came when promised gave me a very reasonable quote and I had it installed. They installed it in one day and cleaned up after the work I could not be more pleased! Michael from South Park Township

Very nice husband and wife family owned business. They were very neat and clean in my basement. They covered everything up to limit the dust. The fan went bad within warranty period (not their fault) and they came within a week to replace no questions asked. Highly recommended.

We hired Steel City Radon to install our radon system about 2 months ago. They were very polite on the phone and in person. We had a little trouble scheduling a time to get it installed (my phone lost the voice message from Sue) and they ended up coming on a Saturday to do it, which was very nice. The weather turned bad that day, so they made a point to finish the inside work and get it all cleaned up that day. Then they came back the following week to finish the outside work when the weather was better. They put drop cloths everywhere and left everything in perfect condition. In my opinion, the exterior installation is better than most radon systems because they make it look just like a normal downspout. They even helped us move our basement freezer out of the way, helped clean up the water that spilled out of it, and helped put the freezer back. We are very pleased with both the system and the installation by Steel City Radon.

I hired Steel City Radon based from home inspector data while selling my home. I was in a hurry to have the job done and move on with the sale.

Steel City Radon responded very promptly, offered a competitive quote, and immediately got to work.

They worked inside and outside simulaneously and made quick work of a big problem. The work was clean, professional and sturdy. Their warranty is for life whete they are happy to stop by and simple recheck their work.

I am most pleased with Steel City Radon and recommend them enthusiastically and without reservation.

Steel City provided quick and affordable service to our home and quickly restored our radon levels to normal... where they have remained for 5 years running. Susan at Steel City has even been helpful in answering questions and concerns about the pump long after their service was completed. Highly recommended!

10/18/2018 we had SCR install a radon system they did a very nice job compared to the job next store They upgraded our fan at no extra charge Everytime we called them they called us back and this was in the evening and on weekends The job was professionally done no complaints about anything This was a husband -team. I had to write a review after reading these comments because this can not be the same company

We had SCR install a RMS in our home on 11/15/2018 . They did an exceptional job They used downspout on the exterior which looked really nice and matched our home They covered everything up in our gameroom prior to starting the job and cleaned everything up. They were they only company who also told us about the free long term test threw the PA dept of Radon

We installed this system for [redacted] on September 13,2013 when we got to the house we told the owner that since there was an addition added to the house it may need another pipe added to the other section of the house .  When there is another section to the house that is added on the...

radon system will not pull from that section it will only pull from the section the pipe is installed in.  If it needed another pipe added it would cost an additional amount to add that pipe.  We left her a test kit attached to the pipe to be retested.  We always tell the owner to test first because a lot of times tests are done under extreme weather conditions which can alter the first test so we recommend to run a test first before they spend any additional money.  There was no warranty given on this radon system with one pipe installed.  I tried to explain this to the lady who called and she did not seem to understand what I was trying to tell her about the addition.  I sent a letter to the owner and never heard back from her.  This lady has called me and I have not answered her due to the fact of her screaming at me and threatening me with social media.  I have no contract with this women but only with the previous owner.  I do agree the radon system needs to be below 4.0  but not every system installed is the same some require more pipes than others and that is more money.

every home that we do that has an addition we do tell the owner that it may need another pipe added to to once the radon system meets resistence it will not pull from that area due to the footer it is like a giant vacuum cleaner and can not pull once there is a footer We also add it to the warranty information We have put in thousands of systems We have a A rating from the BBB and also a good rating with the PA DEP We try to help all of our customers

Steel City installed a system for the previous owners of my house at my request when we purchased it. The radon has been found to still be high. I notified them and as of now they will not answer the phone or call me back. If you look at their reviews on Yellow Pages and Google you will see how others are reviewing them. I wish I had known they were installing the system as I would have required a different company.

+1

Do not know who this is no name or address of property this could be another radon company they are know to leave replies like this with no information. why didn't they complain to the PA DEP This is at my disadvantage because I can not write an answer to this Also I have hundreds of referrels for anyone that would need them We have been in business since Dec 1999

Review: Upon entering my home the worker/owners tracked mud in. When asked to remove their shoes before walking on the white carpet they stated that they were going to leave and cussed at us and proceeded to state they lived in a nicer home that we did. Then cussed at my wife and I again. They were in the house for 5 minutes, and caused 15 minutes of clean-up.Desired Settlement: No settlement necessary, I think other consumers should be aware of their business practices, and rough attitudes.

We were at there home this morning upon arriving the wife asked me to remove my shoes which I did I also told her that I would be laying drop clothes down . She replied are they clean. It was the way she said it. My husband them came into the home and removed his shoes and rolled up the carpet in the entry way which is hard wood floors and walked upstairs and asked the wife if there were pull down steps to the attic and she replied no so he left to go out and get a ladder and drop clothes. Upon re=entering I removed my shoes and the husband came in from the kitchen and said this is why we want the shoes removed I had a small piece of dirt fall from the bottom of my shoes onto her hardwood floor at the entry. There attitude and the way they talked down to us was pretty bad it was at this point I stated we did not want to do this radon system we would have to removed the access to the attic and all the blow in insulation would fall onto the carpeting and we would have to bring our boxes of tools into the home There was no way I was going to do any kind of construction work in this home. We have never left a home dirty every home is clean and actually left cleaner than we arrived I have been in business since 1999 and no home has been left dirty, As for cussing at this man I own a business I do not use any foul language at anyone. Customers can not believe how nice we are. The husband couldn't believe we were not going to do the work I do not need to worry about getting his carpets dirty I had canceled yesterday for that reason and wanted to do it first thing in the morning because of all the rain. There is no way you can do this job without some dirt coming out of the attic this is construction work. As we were leaving he told me to get back in his house and clean up the dirt off his floor and I stated I do not need this from no one and will not be spoken to in this tone. The speck of dirt on his floor could of easily been cleaned with a paper towel and they invited us into their home.

Thanks

Review: We purchased a house that Steel City Radon did the mitigation on (May 2014); the readings are still way to high and do not meet the guidelines (19 - - supposed to be under 4). The last response we got from this company was in June 2014; they said they could not get out there until August, but they would be in touch. After numerous phone calls, emails, etc., we are not getting any response from anyone at Steel City Radon. People are living in this house, and by law, they are required to do the proper mitigation.Desired Settlement: Fix the mitigation system or add another one.
