Review: My elderly mother purchased flooring in April 2014. I was present during the purchase. She was quoted a price for laminate flooring but she later changed her selection to a less expensive vinyl product. A sub-floor was added to the purchase price. We agreed to this addition. When I asked for the net difference in cost, [redacted] told me on the phone that the increase would be in the $50-$100 range. We agreed, based on that range, as my mother was on a limited budget. I repeated my understanding of the net increase to [redacted] to be sure we both had the same understanding. (The cost of the sub-floor was for the most part offset by the decrease in the cost of the vinyl flooring.) When the vinyl flooring was installed, my mother was presented with a bill that reflected a net increase of $400. She paid it thinking she had no choice. When I became aware of the overcharge, I attempted to resolve the issue with Linda by phone. I asked for a breakdown of the difference between the original quote and the final bill so I could see where the discrepancy was. She became very confused and I could not obtain a clear answer. On 8/15/14, I sent a letter stating that we were either misinformed as to the cost of the vinyl or we were over-charged and asked for a price comparison. On 9/9/14, I received a written comparison. However, the price quotes had been changed and several inconsistencies were apparent. On 9/10/14, I sent a second letter noting the inconsistencies and asked for a refund of $400. I received no further response from Steel City Flooring.Desired Settlement: A refund check for $400 made payable to [redacted] (purchaser) - [redacted]

Review: We got a stone/tile floor installed. After a couple days one of the floor tiles cracked. This company (Mike is salesman) NEVER returns calls and they never are on time or are professional. We had to go see them in person to tell them of our problem. They finally sent someone up to repair / replace the cracked tile and to re-grout it. This took over two weeks, which should have taken an hour. We had to call numerous times to get re-grouting done. Now they are trying to charge us for this repair. Also, there is another tile that the installers piece milled together to make a tile that looks terrible. Mike is going to say that they had no extra tiles to replace/repair their work with, but if that is the case why did they take on a job where there was no margin for error?Desired Settlement: As stated above, this contractor is trying to bill us for an install that should have been right in the first place. We have signed NO CONTRACTS for any type of repair work. When we talked about the cracked tile, no charges were ever mentioned. We will no be paying $100.00 and for a charge we never authorized. Also, we want a $500.00 refund for the other installation of a tile that is pieced together to make a whole tile. If this is not received we will be filing a full law suit against this company, where we will also ask why this company wanted a check made out to cash for this job.
