Steele's 24 Hour Towing Reviews (1)

Review: Employee wore shirt with different name to disguise. Was disrespectful, rude, unprofessional, and threatened me on my own property. Lied about miles.

I had requested a tow through my insurance company. The tow was late and not courteous nor apologetic. The bigger problem was the employee. He was late and unfriendly. Prior to the tow he informed me that it was an additional 10 miles from the location of my didabled vehicle and my coverage is only 15 miles. I google mapped it and it was only an additional 4 miles. He tried to overcharge me. I told him it was only an additional 4 miles and showed him on my phone. He said OK. We proceed and leave. Once he arrives he tells me I owe him $48. I question him how did he get $48 when it was supposed to be $32 (4x8) which is $8 an additional mile. He said OK $40. I told him no. He then threatens to call the cops and take my car to his tow yard. I said fine. He then calls his boss stating his name as "[redacted]" while his shirt says [redacted] I ask him "so your name is [redacted] and not [redacted] He agrees. He tells his boss lies and calls me an I-rate customer unwilling to pay. I told him to not lie to his boss because I had already agreed to pay him. I give him the cash and he lowers my vehicle. While unloading he insults me. We do not speak to eachother until the end of the transaction. He takes 10 minutes to write me my receipt. He tells me to sign it

It was dark and I could not read it and wanted to see it in the light. As I read he snatches it from my hands and threatens me stating "my best advice to you is for you to sign it." He gives it back and I continue to read. He states "do you want your receipt or not." I respond stating I need to see what I am signing. He threatens me again stating "my best advice is for you to sign it." His tone of voice and body language showed signs that he was going to do physical harm onto me. I sign it and he leaves. I have witness to the entire transaction from the initial meeting to the end. He was completely unprofessional. He was rude and disrespectful. He was dishonest and uses threats when he is irritated. I would like to share my experience with all consumers to beware of this company and employee

Desired Settlement: I would like appropriate action taken against this employee due to the nature of his service.

Business

Response:

Business' Initial Response

In response to Mr. [redacted] allegations I was"not late for my estimated time of arrival. (Please see attached tow slip) When I arrived Mr. [redacted] and his friends were very intoxicated I informed him of his estimated over mileage he proceed to argue the point. t said Jets at least get you

off the..freeway before California highway Patrol shows up. He agreed and I loaded and towed the vehicle to his home when we arrival I showed him the miles towed on the odometer of my tow truck it was 21 miles he was covered for 15 by his insurance company so that left 6 over miles', at $8.00 dollars a mile total $48.00. He once again argued about the miles as I am a new employee to the company I called my boss. ! was instructed if he didn't pay I was to tow the vehicle to the yard and he could pick it up there. I explained this to Mr. [redacted] he became very angry there was also about 10 of his friends there that also became angry. He said I'll pay you $40.00 dollars feeling alot of

anger and tension fueled by alcohol and being out numbered I agreed to take the $40.00 dollars and I lowered his vehicle. I asked him to sign the invoice he refused I tried to explain nicely it was in his best interest since he was going to file a complaint against me. As for the name on my shirt as I stated before I am a new employee to the company and don't have my own uniform shirts yet. I never told him my name was [redacted] and when he asked me if my name was [redacted] or [redacted] I said it was [redacted]. I now know from this situation and my bosses that I have the right to refuse services to anyone who is irate and intoxicated and" to keep the public. safe I should calf 911 and report the drunk driver.

Enclosed is the proof of all the transaction between Mr. [redacted] and Steele's towing.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I am in disbelief by Mr. [redacted] allegations and false statement. I was not intoxicated nor were my friends. There were not 10 of us there and neither were they intoxicated. He has no evidence to accuse me of such. He was late based upon the ETA I received from Steeles Towing. Upon arrival to my residence I argued that he and I agreed that it was 19 miles from our location and I even showed it to him on my phone. Mr.[redacted] said OK. When Mr. [redacted] arrived I was not angry nor intoxicated based on his allegations. Mr. [redacted] was angry because I had reported him to my insurance company. It was also Mr. [redacted] who offered to collect $40. I never offered him the amount. I only accepted what he offered. There were about 3 or 4 of us outside upon his arrival and total during the whole transaction. I have witnesses to prove and verify everything.. He exaggerated the facts to make him look innocent. I had already agreed to pay him the amount he offered which was $40. He still proceeded to call his boss and threatened to tow my car to the yard. Once I paid him he lowered my vehicle. He insulted me while lowering my vehicle. I told him I didn't want to speak with him anymore and for him to please finish what he needed and be on his way. He proceeded to his vehicle for about 10 minutes to get my paper rwork ready. After he came out he told me to sign. It was not that I refuse to sign but I toldMr. [redacted] that I need to be able to see and read what I am signing. He allows me to read for a few seconds before snatching the board and paper from me. I told Mr. [redacted] politely again that I need to see what I am signing. He hands it back. I continue to read. He comes up to me at this point and threatena me right in my face. I stated again calmly to Mr. [redacted] that I need to be able to read and see everything that I am signing. He threatens me again stating "It is in my best interest to sign." He stated that comment three times while I was reading his paper work. I didn't finish reading everything and just signed it after his last threat. I felt and saw the impatience and anger in him and felt threatened by his presence so close to me. I signed and gave him his paper work. As for his name, he never introduced himself so I assumed his name was what was on the shirt. I was only made aware of the wrong names when he called his boss and I overheard him. I was not intoxicated nor were my friends as Mr. [redacted] stated. I was also not aware that he was new to the company.

In response to Mr. [redacted] being late.

I called my insurance company to inform them and to find me a new tow because they were late. I waited over an hour and 15 mintes from the end of my call to my insurance company. I even called Mr. [redacted] boss to ask for their eta. He told me it could be another 20-30 mins and he can't confirm this because his guy left. I asked his boss where he was coming from and he stated from highway 80.

Business' Final Response

I told the driver who clearly felt threatened no matter how many witnesses present to accept what little payment was offered and to leave. He knows in the future to not even engage in discussions of this nature when there are customers who are either intoxicated (no matter how little or how much) or belligerent, he is to get in his truck, lock the doors and leave. The police were called regarding this incident, and we have nothing further to say regarding this issue. We stand by our initial response.
