Step 1 Credit Reviews (47)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Step1Credit is not being forthright about the service offered and their level of attention. I did not receive communication from the company informing me of progress nor updates, nor newsletters.
I did, (and have an entire email file of all communication documentation) that the quantity of emails documents are automated. From the auto response when my credit card was drafted, and to when to watch for credit reports to arrive. I received 2 personally responded email to my incoming email. The phone calls were indeed returned yet solutions where not achieved.  I was advised to just trust the process and keep with it.  I have not been the person accessing an account. If, my 'account' was accessed 6 times, then it was accessed internally by Step1Credit/employees or in the first month when setting up the file; If I had know of said account and that I could access it to see updates and progress, then many of my calls would not have had to even occur.
I have indeed seen credit score improvement. I did not state that I had not.  Nor was any of my complaint addressing that.
As a paying customer, I expressed my concerns with Step1Credit's performance and itemized specifically in my complaint. Those issues were not addressed in the response from Step1credit.
Scenario:
If a customer is calling into a company monthly, bi-monthly and then weekly seeking clarity and explanation about process and progress update. It seems to make sense to look at what it is the customer is trying to achieve. I requested for [redacted] to contact me, and I was advised to just let it work. I lost trust in the company month after month and my attempt of accountability was pushed aside and not tended to.  Once I became aware that I was not entitled to my very own credit report, that I had to purchase, made me feel very uncomfortable and I easily was able to decide to end our business relationship. I expressed concern and no valid explanation as to how I would pay for my report, and not receive a copy. I will indeed investigate the regulations about that topic.
The experience I had was disappointing and I did not receive the Features and Benefits advertised on the company website. I was not set at ease upon my calls, inquiries and requests.
When I began seeking data and accountability then this company choose to not be proactive to help resolve my concerns. I was never offered anything free, not a monthly service fee nor a refund for the credit report I paid for yet was unable to receive a copy of.
I feel that as soon as I began pushing for verification and insight to progress, I was a advised to run another credit report, let the process work and keep with it. This was not a satisfactory result or response. The last person I spoke with was very defensive and condescending while speaking with me. Repeating the same statement and no direct answer of how to tend to the TWO major credit issues I started with and were still present after 8 months of services.
I experienced one person who was very good at customer service and helped me several times. I began relying on her to update me and check my file for documents I sent in. I thanked her very much for her help and wonderful patience and service to me.
Other consumers need to be warned of this poor experience.

To whom it may concern,

I was in the process of trying to purchase a home for the first time in many years. After looking at my credit score, I knew I needed a lot of help after making it through a divorce.
Credit1source was recommended to me by a loan officer, so I made a call in October 2014. I was able to discuss my credit history with Paul Aughtry, and how I could fix it. This process began in October 2014, and within 10 mos, Paul and Teresa Cadiz had my credit where it needed to be to qualify for what I needed! This company made my credit repair a dream come true! The cost for the credit repair I received over the 10 mos, was minimal compared to what I have gained in my life…and regaining my life!!! The “customer service” I received over this time frame was above and beyond acceptable, it was awesome!!!!! I highly recommend this company to help repair your CREDIT LIFE and you will not be disappointed!

Revdex.com of San Diego & Imperial Counties Attention: ID [redacted]Step 1 Credit  responded to each issue with Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] in our previous response.  Based on the length of the client service, prior to cancellation, Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] received the appropriate number of responses from the bureaus.  The bureaus have up to 45 days to investigate and respond to a dispute, which would be 90 days for two responses.  Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] state in the complaint they received two responses prior to cancellation.  It is unfortunate that Step 1 Credit has answered each of the Mr. & Mrs.
[redacted] questions and client agrees that responses were received and they continue to state inaccurate information regarding services received. We have provided Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] with information requested during service and in our response here. Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] acknowledge in their complaint that service was provided and results were received.  Step 1 Credit provides excellent customer service as evidenced in our extensive history of communication with the client.  Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] had great results and service as we reviewed during our conversations and they cancelled the service over one month ago. As a goodwill offering, Step 1 Credit will provide Mr. & Mrs. [redacted] with a refund of the last month service fee.  Step 1 Credit is happy to speak to the client at any time if they wish further information regarding their closed account.  We consider this matter closed.Thank you,Step 1 Credit

All billing was reviewed and agreed upon by the client on a recorded line in addition to in her service agreement. Furthermore, all information is available 24/7 to the client. availability as requested. If a customer has a complaint, texting them to call you is not an appropriate response. Each time I have requested a refund for the month's in which I was not provided service, I have been ignored. Refunding my money for the 4 months in which no service was provided is the only solution I will accept to settle this complaint.

Step 1 Credit has not received any payments from Ms. [redacted].  Therefore a refund is not possible as no funds have ever been received.  We are happy to answer any further questions.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
I would like to respond to each of the points made by Mr. [redacted]:
I did aquire the 2 new credit cards.  I have been using my [redacted] and [redacted] cards for the past 5-6 months at the advice of Credit One Source, to help establish better credit.
I did pay down the cards, each month, to the $5.00 recommended by Credit One Source.
After [redacted] reviewed my credit report, she failed to inform me of everything I needed to pay on to help clean up my report.  Nothing new showed up, except that communication on the part of [redacted] was untimely and left me in the dark on the next step necessary in paying down or off certain accounts on my report.  I attempted to contact her numerous times, only to be ignored or put off for weeks, whick hurt my credit greatly.  No proper guidance.
I faxed over every credit bureau response I received in the mail, but never once heard from [redacted], or [redacted] regarding these responses or the necessary actions needed on my or their part to  help clean up my report.  This leads me to believe that they failed to mail out the letters they had agreed to mail to the bureaus.
I not only responded to [redacted] every time she called or e-mailed, but I was constantly ingnored or put off for weeks.  Most of the time I never heard back from her at all.
One last thing, I counted every payment made to Credit One Source and I paid a total of $800 to Credit One Source.  These payments were drafted out each month, so I can get documentation of these payments, if necessary.  There were HUGE gaps in communication with [redacted] and Credit One Source.  He is a liar and I am completely disgusted with his response.  He never called or left a message regarding our scheduled appointment with him on 6/18/15 @5:30pm.  My husband and I made numerous attempts to call him and left messages, right up to the time we were sitting at [redacted] (where he had agreed to meet with us) waiting for him to arrive.  HUGE failure of communication with this business and HORRIBLE at keeping up with their clients needs.

This is also in compliance with Federal and State Law(s). Furthermore, Step 1, Credit’s credit service program is cancellable at anytime.  This is not a policy on billing the Step 1 Credit created; it is the applicable laws that require billing in arrears. Under Federal Law the credit bureaus have 30-45 days to investigate and respond to a consumer request.   Therefore, a client does have pending investigations every 30-45 days on average, as this client currently does as well.  Even after cancellation the work we have completed prior to cancellation is in process for the benefit of the client. Our clients have an account advisor and every effort is made for clients to speak to their advisor when requested.  The client spoke to the same advisor on the majority of the telephone calls.  Furthermore, clients have an online profile that displays the information regarding their account.  It includes but is not limited to a breakdown of their account history, and each client receives email communications throughout the month regarding their account.  This is available for review on the client profile at any time.  They also receive email notification of all payments received, a receipt of billing.  This information and more is all available on their client profile for them to view 24/7.  Additionally, we have exceptional customer service.  Any client request for information is responded to via telephone and/or email within 24 hours.   We have spoken to the client frequently via telephone at every request and kept client fully updated and answered all questions to client satisfaction on each call.  Most importantly, the client had exceptional results!  Step 1 Credit has provided and delivered the service as is evidenced in the improvement the client has experienced in his credit.  Step 1 Credit is happy to speak to the client at any time if he wishes further information regarding his closed account.  Thank you,Step 1 Credit

Everything is documented through our system so that nothing can be missed. The text I sent [redacted] asked him for a good time for us to talk, not for him to call me. I run a business and try to be as efficient as possible so we can provide the highest quality of service to all of our clients. [redacted] NEVER responded to my request for a phone conference nor my direct request for an updated credit report. As I stated before, I am happy to review his credit report and do whatever possible to help him achieve his goals but he has to submit that information to me before I can do anything more.

The client signed up for service on November 25, 2016 and the cancellation was processed on December 29, 2016, pursuant to client request. When a client signs up for service work immediately begins, that same day, on the client account. Our clients select a username and password when they sign up for services that enable them to have 24/7 access to their client profile to review their account status and work. Ms. [redacted] logged into her client profile 17 times from 11.26.16 to 12.29.16. Ms. [redacted] was active and engaged in her account throughout her time as a client. The client also received email communications throughout the process. Step 1 Credit provided those and other services to Ms. [redacted] throughout her time as a client. Review: I requested the services of this company to help me with my credit. I can't begin to tell you have unsatisfied I am with there services. They are not straight forward. When you request documentation by e-mail they can't supply. They are not sending out letters every 45 days to the credit bureau, as they promise in there statements. When you ask for the date and what was sent they can only say "when you made you payment that is when we send the info". I have only received information from the credit bureau twice. One was from what I sent to the credit bureau and the other was from what step1 sent to them. Since I was with them for 3 months, I should have received at least three correspondence from the Credit Bureau. When I questioned them they stated that sometimes the bureau does not respond, which I know is not true.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to apologize for taking me and my husbands money (and not getting anything done) and refund at least two months each back to us.

These were the results due at that time. The bureaus have 30-45 days to investigate and respond. This timeframe does not include delivery time by the USPS. The client also changed their mailing address, which can affect the delivery by the USPS. Our communication history demonstrates that our account advisor made every effort to speak to the client and to keep the client informed and to answer every question. This is just a typical response. Something that they have made up and send out for every complaint. They have not done what they said they would do. My credit did not get any better and they never responded to my e-mails only called. This is so they would have no paper trial. I just want my money back. Send me all the information you have done and worked on. I bet you will find they have not done what they said they were doing. I WANT MY MONEY BACK or I will tell everyone what a not so great company you are.

Review: Statement of Services in the Premier Plan for $79.95 failed to provide 90% of those services. (1) Free Support; states they believe in personalized, convenient and effective support via phone, email and chat. This is NOT truthful, I did not have a single contact person, a variety of people attempted to help and I had to repeatedly explain and ask for the service. There is NOT a chat available and my emails were responded with an automated response, most were never responded to.

(2) I did not have access to Client Central, I was calling in monthly attempting to see and understand the progress of my repairs. (3) I have NEVER received a "Report Overview" all of my contact with the company was from my inbound calls seeking clarity, help or understanding. (4) Information Newsletters were never sent to me via email not postal. (5) Pay as you go, Cancel anytime. This is a FALSE ADVERTISING and not the business practice. Upon my dissatisfaction and formal decision to stop services in the first week of August, I was still charged in Sept for the "so called work already completed". (6) I was never clearly answered as to when "Validation Letters", "Goodwill Letters" and "Escalation Requests" where initiated. I called in the last 3 months of services, regularly, attempting to identify this information. It was NEVER provided to me.

This company is not offering what it advertises. My services were from Jan 2014 to Sept 2014. This company uses a Mortgage Company in Newport Beach to run credit reports, charged me $19.95 and I was unable to receive a copy of these credit reports. This is not a good business practice. When asking them to pursue "Hard Inquiries" I discovered on my credit report(that I had to obtain on my own at an additional expense) , the person assisting me with this issue did not even know that the hard credit inquiring from the mortgage company was the very company they use to pull credit.

Overall experience with this company is POOR.Desired Settlement: I would like a full 3 months refund of charges as well as a letter of explanation of my credit repair since day 1 of service. And I want a copy of all my credit reports pulled from this company and it/or its affiliates and/or vendors. If I am not provided my credit reports-all of them from Jan 2014 to date, then I want a FULL refund of all fees charged for said reports.

I also want the Advertising on your website to be corrected and reflect the actual service offered.

Re: [redacted]; Complaint ID: [redacted], filed 9.11.14

Step 1 Credit is the trusted leader in credit report repair. We are dedicated to the credit education of our clients and helping them to understand their credit and improve their credit through our credit improvement program.

Step 1 Credit does and always will operate under the laws Fair Credit Reporting Act and in accordance and compliance with the Credit Repair Organization Act. Step 1 Credit provides exemplary service to our clients. We provide complete and accurate information to all clients and the information is available to our clients at all times.

Step 1 Credit takes threats against our business, ethics and service seriously. Disparagement to our company will always be addressed accordingly.

Ms. [redacted] makes allegations that are simply not true and that is unfortunate. The client was quite willing to allow us to spend significant time and effort on her account as evidenced by the service she received. Ms. Tippet signed up for service on February 3, 2014 and she cancelled service on August 19, 2014. During her term of service Ms. [redacted] spoke to Step 1 Credit via telephone 39 times, she received 52 emails and she logged into her account more than 6 times, or on average one time per month. Every email sent to Step 1 Credit was responded to either by email or more often by telephone as we find this a better way to provide great service. Additionally, Ms. [redacted] credit is greatly improved. Credit is based on several factors. One of which is negative items on a credit reports. We have greatly improved her credit through the legal dispute process and the subsequent deletion of negative items on her reports using the Fair Credit Reporting Act. If an item on a report is inaccurate, unverifiable or a mistake it can be removed under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. If an item on your report is accurate and verifiable, it will not be removed.

Ms. [redacted] had many deletions on all three major credit bureaus AND her credit scores on all three major bureaus all improved. Yes, her scores went up on all bureaus; the score on one of her bureaus rose and astounding 99 points.

Our billing is in compliance with the Credit Repair Organization Act ([15 USC 1679b(b)), we perform service before charging our clients for that service. The first work fee is charged after all work had been completed on a client’s account, usually within 6 to 15 days of a clients sign up date. Thereafter, each month a client chooses to remain a client of Step 1 Credit, monthly work is done and fully completed and performed for the month and the monthly service fee is charged at the end of that period. When a client cancels, they may have a balanced due for the work previously performed. Just like a utility company, we provide service and payment is due for service after service is complete. This is also in compliance with Federal and State Law(s). Furthermore, Step 1, Credit’s credit service program is cancellable at anytime and clients only pay for services that have been fully rendered.

Our clients are very important to us and we always provide exemplary customer service and are available to discuss and assist in all their client needs. Step 1 Credit provided service that is absolutely incomparable to that which any other company would provide to Ms. [redacted]. We honored each and every reasonable request of Ms. [redacted] and we offered Ms. [redacted] a free month of service as a goodwill gesture. We believe we have provided Ms. [redacted] with great service and results as described above and consider this matter closed.

Sincerely,

Step 1 Credit

Regards,

I was swindled into signing up for their service last week. Since then my credit score dropped 31 points. I signed up on the notion that they would be helping me acquire an mortgage loan in the very near future. I had paid the 3 collection accounts on my credit and the only other items on my credit report were student loans. This company has not returned my calls and I am not able to get on their company website since signing up. I have called their customer service number to cancel repeatedly and I keep getting told someone will call me back. They immediately took $79.95 from my account the day I spoke with them. I am very upset and annoyed that I am not able to cancel or get a refund!

Review: On March 13 2014 I sign up and have not gotten anything and this is May 10 2014 they said it would be 30 - 45 days. I called and they told me that the letters went out on the 18th of March.Desired Settlement: If they can`t do what they say they can do I would like my money back for my wife and I. They said that Lexington Law firm would take years and they don`t just a few month`s. Not be true so far.

Re: ID [redacted]

Dear Ms. [redacted],

Step 1 Credit is the trusted leader in credit report repair. We

are dedicated to the credit education of our clients and helping

them to understand their credit and improve their credit

through our credit improvement program.

Step 1 Credit does and always will operate under the laws Fair

Credit Reporting Act and in accordance and compliance with

the Credit Repair Organization Act. Step 1 Credit provides

exemplary service to our clients. We provide complete and

accurate information to all clients and the information is

available to our clients at all times.

Our billing is in compliance with the Credit Repair

Organization Act ([15 USC 1679b(b)), we perform service

before charging our clients for that service. The first work fee

is charged after all work had been completed on a client’s

account, usually within 6 to 15 days of a clients sign up date.

Thereafter, each month a client chooses to remain a client of

Step 1 Credit, monthly work is done and fully completed and

performed for the month and the monthly service fee is

charged at the end of that period. When a client cancels, they

may have a balanced due for the work previously performed.

Just like a utility company, we provide service and payment is

due for service after service is complete. This is also in

compliance with Federal and State Law(s). Furthermore, Step

1, Credit’s credit service program is cancellable at anytime and

clients only pay for services that have been fully rendered.

As required by State and Federal Laws, a client may cancel this

contract, without penalty or obligation, at any time before

midnight of the 5th day that begins after the date the contract is

signed.

Mr. [redacted] reviewed his account online on at least four

occasions, viewing his account items and choosing options

regarding his casework. Mr. [redacted] has not paid his First

Work fee of $99.95, as agreed upon for work that was

previously performed. Again, Mr. [redacted] has not paid for any

of the service rendered to date. We reviewed the final balance

that was due and payable and would be charged on Mr. [redacted]

billing date for the services that had been fully rendered. It was

acknowledged and understood by Mr. [redacted]. A cancellation

email was sent to Mr. [redacted] which confirmed the account

cancelled status, which again reiterates that a final payment is

due and payable stating in part “Your final payment will be

drafted for your scheduled date”. The fee is for work which

was done and not for work yet to be done. In compliance with

the Credit Repair Organization Act [15 USC 1679b(b)] we

perform service before charging our clients for that service”.

Our clients are very important to us and we always make sure

they have accurate information about our service and their

credit so they and make informed decisions.

Sincerely,

Step 1 Credit

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Review: In April 2015 my wife contacted this company in hopes to repair my credit issues. They were polite at first saying yep, we will have it fixed and you will be able to buy a house in 3-4 months. Then they wanted that 80.00 a month. I paid it. Anyone you talk to will say the exact same thing, in the exact same order, and make you feel like they have accomplished SO much for you in just the first month. Yeah 39-45 days I seen items on the report deleted on their end. I got 2 credit reports each month, NEVER got one from EXPERIAN, until I done it my self. Then had to fax it to them for them to show deleted items. The first month or two they must have hit the delete button because they made items look deleted, then after that their delete button stopped working, because NOTHING happened again except them charging me 80.00 a month. For nothing in return. They told me my credit score was now at a 577 when I talked with an attorney and a much reputable credit repair co, they said I had no score at all. So now I tell them I want to cancel, now they want to charge me for the work they done. What work? I don't agree with this. I want a full refund from the time I started, this is a scam, to take your money and make it look good. Nothing ever good came from this. The issues on my reports. Are still there from the day I went with this so called company. They do not back their word, and they don't help you, any giving day you can call, and sleek with 3-4 different people and they are rehearsed on what to say and when to say it, they all say them same thing they same exact way. Nothing has been done liked they promised. I will take this has far as I have to in order to get my money back. They mislead me, done nothing they said they would, except take my money. I just found out I don't have a score at all, they have made it sound like my score was rising, in fact I now have NO SCORE!! I want a full refund. I'm rightfully owed that. Big time scams is what this company's made of.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund of every dollar I spent on this company. Who has done nothing to help, they actually made it worse. They said I had a 577 score, the attorney and the other company checked it out and said I no longer have a score because of how this company has operated their scam. Scam to hurt people, benefit 80.00 to their pocket. This is just totally wrong. I WANT A FULL REFUND from April 2015 to September 2015 that's 7 months at 80.00 they have made my credit worse than helped. I will take this as far as I have to to achieve what's rightfully due to me.
