When this little girl enrolled Aunt was explaining to us she may or may not have had a skin condition previous to being in care with us.  [redacted] did well in care.  We do have all children do a recommended amount of tummy time.  This does not always bring happiness for the children, but...

it is done on a daily basis.  We are not required to send out a letter to parents in regards to contagious illnesses unless it becomes an epidemic.  We are required to post contagious illnesses on the parent board located at the classroom door.  Illnesses are left on the board for 3 months at a time so parents can view what their children may or may not have been exposed to. It is the parents responsibility to read this. The chickenpox this child had was posted and she was the only child that had this in our facility at the time.  It is very rare for children under 1 to get this since they receive the vaccine for this at a year.  We also posted the few cases of Hand, foot and mouth we had between both Infant classrooms.  This is an airborne cold virus that turns into a rash so it spreads quickly thru children.  We are daily disinfecting toys, cribs, shelving, and etc in our infant rooms.  We take pride in how few of illnesses we have throughout our facility.  Our monthly visiting nurse consistently tells us what a great job we do with illness prevention and spreading. We require parents call daily if they will not be here before 9:00 am, so we can plan them in our counts for the day for staffing.  [redacted] or any other family member that had care would rarely call her in late or not coming for the day.  The teacher would be calling daily and rarely would get a call back.  We spoke with Aunt in regards to her enrollment.  She was enrolled for a 5 day slot with county assistance, so we needed her to be here a minimum of 3 days and we needed to know what days.  [redacted]'s therapist had shown up on several occasions for her therapy and she was not here.  Aunt did not let the therapist know where she was and if she was coming and we had not gotten a hold of anyone for the day of care either.  This was a consistent problem.   I give aunt props for taking on two children from another family member on top of having her own children.  This unfortunately, does not change that everyone must pay for care used.  We do not reimburse parents for time they must remain home with their sick children as parents do not reimburse us for time their children should be in care but they are not showing up and we are not receiving payment.  When someone receives county assistance for childcare the parent/guardian also has some responsibilities.  This includes using the card the county provides to swipe them in and out on a machine.  When the parent/guardian does not do this, the county does not pay and the facility is not paid.  We then have to turn around and charge the parent/guardian for care.  [redacted] was notified of her missed swipes in and out, given several bills, and chose not to pay.  We had also put in extra time emailing her caseworker to try and get these missed swipe days paid for by the county so she would not be responsible for them. In the long run, the county said [redacted] was responsible for payment because she had the cards and knew they needed to be used.  In addition we charged her a discounted rate for these days.  [redacted] was notified of the amount she owed before she ended care and after she ended care.  She was responsible for $320.76 in charges.  She did not pay this, so the account was turned over to the collection company after 3 months.    We have been in business for 19 years and of course are not perfect.  We do our very best to provide quality care.  We go thru and pass several state inspections per year and additionally go thru a higher level of state rating (optional) to reach a higher quality standard.  We are always striving to improve and provide the best we can to our families and children.  We are fortunate enough to have 9 out of our 15 staff have been with us for 5-15 years.  I believe this speaks to a part of our quality.  We prefer not to end care with families on a sour note, but also we need to meet our facility rules to maintain a business.       Thank You [redacted]
