At best this complaint by the customer is ludicrous; at worst it is defamatory and impugns my character and reputation. In fact on June 4, we filed two complaints against the customer, her husband, and property manager in Small Claims Court seeking restitution of $14,0000 for their breach of...

contract with my company for the renovation of their high-end kitchen cabinets for their summer home. We were hired just to build the kitchen cabinets, and we were not the kitchen contractor, who was hired to do everything else.On May 22, 2015, the customer’s husband informed me in a voice mail that I was fired from the job after I had already installed the kitchen island and sink, trash and bar cabinets and completed the construction of the pantry cabinet. Additionally, I had already built and installed the double oven cabinet and Lazy Susan cabinet, installed and painted kitchen cabinets, and sold them ceramic tiles. However, I have only received half of the money for these projects/materials/services. When we left the site on Thursday, May 21, all the cabinets except the pantry cabinet and cabinet doors (built but needed to be painted) were installed. The kitchen was functional except for the plumber needing to arrive on Friday, May 22, but that was not my company’s responsibility. It had a refrigerator, stove, sink and counters. I have no idea why they did not have a floor or working appliances and we installed all of the contracted cabinets except for the pantry cabinet, which is built. But it is a lie to say it is “unclear, what, if anything, he has done, on this project” when I communicated numerous times with the project manager via email, when she came to my shop in early May to look at the progress of my work and when I and a helper were at the residence installing cabinets on May 14 and May 21.There also were numerous delays and hold ups on their end, beginning with receiving the deposit for the initial work five weeks after my email (December 2014) stating that we needed to start on the work ASAP to complete it on a timely basis. However, my relationship with these clients actually began over 18 months ago, but was strung out because they changed their mind numerous times about when they needed the project to be finished. so it did not commence until early this year. The fact of the matter is that their kitchen would already have been finished early during the week of May 31 if the customer and her husband had not been emotional hotheads – throwing the equivalent of an adult version of a two-year old temper tantrum -- yelling and screaming at me and making unreasonable demands. I feel I acted professionally in all my interactions with them and sent them three emails, which they responded to, where I indicated the timetable for finishing this work. But the customer kept repeating that he had fired me, so I expected payment for the services/products rendered as any business person would. They had no interest in reaching any sort of amiable resolution and were determined to cut off their nose to spite their face.Additionally, my wife and I felt physically threatened by them. Without our permission, they sent three young construction workers to our property to take the pantry cabinet, which they refused to pay me for, and other items that I was contracted to refurbish but for which I had never been paid. Even after calling the police, these men refused to leave because they were instructed to stay by the customer or the property manager. I can only imagine what would have happened if my wife had been there alone because our property is isolated, surrounded by woods and at a distance from our neighbors. Only after the police arrived, did they leave our property after they were told to do this by the officers. We also feel financially threatened by these customers. We have an email from the customer’s husband where he states he doesn’t “care about spending money on other contractors and for my lawyer.”We tried to finish the work as expeditiously as possible, but as custom cabinetmakers we also know that our clients want quality work. If we had rushed through the job, the customers would be complaining about the quality. We were damned if we did, damned if we didn’t with these customers.Reasonable people would have found a way to work together but these customers wanted me to give them their cabinets for free.
