Steve Spangler Science Reviews (%countItem)

Their cancellation policy is pure crap. This idea that if you cancel on the date they tell you that your next shipment period begins....well, they give some bogus reason that 6 months worth of kits have been produced and the process can't be stopped.
That's even though the shipments come one at a time!
Had we know of such a poor policy, we would have selected another company.
This process is shady at best.
Like they imply...let the BUYER beware.
Read their fine print, Read their cancellation policy. Read their return policy. They are all one sided AWAY from their customer.
In this case, their former customer.
I can understand why this business isn't Revdex.com Accredited.

I have reviewed your account and am showing we have sent you all of the important information regarding your subscription. This includes 2 welcome emails that explain this is an auto renewing subscription service with links to our FAQ page if you want to learn more about how to cancel or manage your account. I am also showing we emailed you the renewal reminder on March 22nd giving you ample time to cancel your subscription or reach out to our team for assistance prior to your renewal on March 30th.
If you would like to reach out to our customer service team at [email protected], I am sure they will be more than helpful in canceling your subscription and refunding your money if you reach out to them.

This company gives you only 8 days notice before renewing an over 200$ subscription. You cannot view the expiration date of your subscription on their emails or when viewing your account. If you miss your 8 day canceling window, and you cancel your subscription, your account will still show you are cancelled, but you really aren't. Totally shady and very POOR cancellation policy.

Per our correspondence, we did send out a renewal reminder 8 days before your subscription was up for renewal. In addition to this, ever tracking email we send out directs you to our FAQ section if you have questions regarding renewals, ship dates, etc. You were free to cancel your subscription any time between the moment you joined up to 2 days prior to your renewal date to avoid being renewed. As well, we offer a grace period for our year long subscribers to contact us to cancel after the subscription renews to receive a full refund. Had you contacted us on the 10th, we would have issued you a full refund. Once we start shipping kits, however, we are unable to issue refunds.
We have worked really hard to make sure our customers have all the information they need to manage their subscription. We are one of the few subscription services that even send out renewal reminders.
I am terribly sorry we are unable to issue any refunds at this point. We have already purchased materials and you are already too far into your next year long subscription for us to process the refund on your credit card.

Please check your records. I DID CANCEL on the 10th, before you shipped any packages under my new subscription. Technically then, according to your own words I should get a refund.
The fact that subscribers cannot tell when the subscription will renew until 8 days before (it is not on any of the shipping notices) is ridiculous and poor business practice.

I ordered a 3-months worth of science kist from Spangler for my nephews for Christmas. When the time was up to renew I received an e-mail indicating that I would be billed for another 3 months if I did not respond. So I went online to there website and thought I had canceled the next order. I checked my credit card bill and Saw that I had been billed for another 3 months. So I contacted via e-mail and stated that I did not want another 3 months and please cancel my order. They refused. I made a mistake and went online to the website and did not send an e-mail. I feel that they could give partial credit, or something paying another 3 months is not far. I feel that it is a scam.

You signed up for an auto renewing subscription club. Upon checkout, you have to check a box acknowledging that you understand this is auto renewing and agree to our terms and conditions. Our terms are clearly listed under our FAQ section, which we provide a link in every email we send out. Even every tracking email we send each month mentions that if you have questions regarding the "automatic renewals, pre-paid kits, or shipping times," please check out our FAQ page and again, we provide the direct link.

On February 20th, we sent you an email letting you know your subscription was going to be renewing. This email always goes out 8 days in advance. Per our conversation, you read this email, but did not take action on it until after the renewal was processed. Per the email, and our cancellation policy, you must cancel your subscription a minimum of 2 days prior to the renewal date. You cancelled your subscription on February 28th, several hours after the renewal was processed. You received an email confirming the cancellation, which does mention that it does not cancel any prepaid kits on your account.

The reason for the hard cut off is because our team immediately goes into preparation for the next club kits. Club kits are much different than regular retail since we are often shipping out thousands of kits at a time. We are a small company and do not have the warehouse space to store all of the pieces and parts that go into these kits.

The first time you and I had a discussion about this issue was on March 19th. The first kit of your next 3 months was scheduled to ship out the following day. Had you contacted us on the renewal day, before the kits had started being produced, we could have come up with a creative solution. However, at this point, everything has been purchased and they are starting the preparation for the next two "builds" (as we call them).

The items ordered were of poor quality. Specifically, the 6-in-1 Educational Solar Kit is made of very cheap plastic that is not durable, and the toys are much smaller than they appear on the website. The solar panels did not power the toys unless we held them up to a lamp. Even when we took the toys outside on a sunny day, they barely worked and didn't generate enough "power" to actually move. In addition -- please note, Canadian residents!!!! FedEx is the only option for shipping. Even though you pre-pay the shipping costs, the transaction is not over. I am now receiving invoices from FedEx for "taxes, duty and brokerage fees" in an amount that's half of the price of the original toy. None of this was explained on the website. What a scam!

Thanks for your feedback, Susan. Unfortunately, the 6 in 1 Solar kit is not a product created by Steve Spangler Science. However, we greatly appreciate your feedback and will take this into consideration about continuing to sell this product on our website. As for the shipping costs, if you click on our Shipping tab under Support, we do mention that our company is not responsible for duties and taxes. Unfortunately this is beyond our control since this is something set up by your government. You are welcome to give us a call in the future and we will be happy to look at other shipping options. Our website is only allowed to show one shippable service, but we continue to look at options to improve this feature.
