Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/09/02) */
On June 2nd Steve's Plumbing rerouted some sewer waste and drain lines at the [redacted] and [redacted]'s home at Hideaway point cabin site. The scope of the work consisted of rerouting and terminating the new shower drain line, raising one other sewer...

line and capping another. The shower drain developed a leak at some period after initial installation, on July 8th Steve was asked by [redacted] to remove the old icemaker line and route new line to new fridge location. The new line was installed with a new ball valve style shut off located behind the fridge and the old shut off valve was moved to the basement as a means of plugging the old line in the basement. [redacted] stated the shower drain was leaking also, when inspected the drain had slipped down and was dripping. Steve and Wayne reinstalled the drain and tightened, at which point there was a brace installed to prevent drain from slipping down again. The billing for this date only included the icemaker parts and labor, the drip was not billed for and covered under warranty. No representative of Steve's Plumbing was ever at the residence on July 18th. On August 10th [redacted] called and visited with me (Steve) and stated the shower was dripping again and was wondering if I had taken his curb stop wrench, I explained that we have our own wrench and had not used or taken his. The service we performed only required shutting the water off on the meter inside the home so there was no need for a curb wrench. Steve had set up another service call for August 14th with [redacted], on Wed August 12th [redacted] texted to make sure that was still going to work. After checking my schedule I realized Friday was a day we needed to be in Bismarck so that evening I called [redacted] to let him know Friday wouldn't work and we could try for the following Friday the 21st. I did mention maybe we could get a key or hide one at the residence which they didn't feel comfortable with. On August 21st we (Steve's Plumbing) were working on an underground and at 10:00am Steve checked his phone, [redacted] had called that morning and left three text messages. Each message was getting a little more rude as they were received. I called [redacted] and told her I was working on a excavator and couldn't hear my phone so was not trying to simply ignore the calls or text's and I would try to make it work to get to their place in the late afternoon. But could not come right away because the concrete crew was wanting into the job we were currently working on. At 12:00 pm I texted [redacted] to explain I was unable to make it and had other commitments that weekend. I apologized for the hard feelings and explained that my schedule changes sometimes no matter how organized we try to be. Many things cause this due to weather, emergencies and other factors. The way the morning conversations went I don't believe [redacted] was comfortable having us work for her and I was not longer comfortable or willing to perform the services. As far as the services already performed the fact of the matter is Steve's Plumbing did not provide or install the shower unit. There is no question the drain installed by us leaked and was fixed once at our cost. The leak seems to appear after someone has used the shower over a period of time according to the dates which makes me believe that the floor may be flexing causing the drain to loosen with continued use. We had no control over initial installation of the products in question and do not feel we are responsible for fixing or warranty on another person's products or work performance. Steve's Plumbing did not work at the residence without [redacted] being present, we never stole any property or tools and never billed for any material or labor to try and remedy the leak on a product we didn't sell or install. Therefore I feel it was best to just part ways, as a private contractor we still reserve the right to deny services if we don't feel there is a quality experience for the consumer OR the contractor.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/09/08) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Steve's plumbing is responsible for the water leak we have in our basement, the leak happened after the work & equipment(pipes, brass shower drain, Pex rings etc),that they provided to new the shower. I have attached the billing invoice, that shows the dates that we were billed. We were billed for July 18,2015 that is why I used that date in my first letter to the Revdex.com.
On Aug 10th 2015 Steve from Steve's Plumbing sent my husband a text stating he could meet us up at the cabin on Aug 14th 2015 to fix the water leak stating "may have to replace that drain there maybe a flaw that I just can't see." Steve then sent a text to my husband on Aug 13th stating he had to be in Bismarck on Aug 14th 2015,and requested a key be left at the cabin. Leaving a key at Steve's plumbing request was not an option.
My husband & I had a few items go missing when work was being done to the cabin/home. We asked all contractors if they had any of the items including Steve's Plumbing, we have not accused anyone of taking anything, but we will no longer have work done at the place without one of us being present. Leaving a key at Steve's plumbing request was not an option.
On Thursday Aug 13th 2015 my husband received a text from Steve stating his schedule was pretty flexible except for Friday Aug 14th 2015.My husband asked about Friday Aug 21st 2015 "Yes, I will make that work, I don't have anything planned for that date." Which is why I rearranged my schedule, my son's schedule, my husband's schedule & my daughters schedule, to meet Steve's plumbing up at our cabin on Friday Aug 21st 2015 which was the day of his second request. I arrived on Thursday Aug 20th 2015 as to be there so Steve's Plumbing could come as early as they needed to on Friday Aug 21st 2015.By 8:27 am I did not hear or see Steve's Plumbing so I called, no response, so I sent a text at 10:26 am (my husband had sent a text too). At 10:30am Steve finally called me back, and stated," he did not think he would make it out to the cabin", I was not happy with that response, Steve then stated" All I can do is try and get out to your place but I can not make any promises". At 12:50pm I received a text by Steve stating "he was not going to make it". I was again not happy, so I sent him a text stating my disappointment and I told him this a horrible way to conduct a business. I then informed him I would get our plumber from Bismarck to fix his work & he would be responsible for the bill & any travel expense. He stated "you do what you feel you have to do". Steve's plumbing did the work to our cabin which ended up in a water leak into our basement. They are 100% responsible for any labor parts and equipment, needed to repair the water leak. Steve's Plumbing agreed not once but twice to meet us at the site to repair/fix the issue. When the final payment to Steve Plumbing cleared the bank is when I was told the water leak issue was not due to the work/equipment of Steve's plumbing, I was told that "[redacted] installed the shower, and that Steve's plumbing did not supply the shower, and that's where the problem is" I agree with Steve from Steve's plumbing, that we need to part ways. I will never hire them again to do work of any kind. However Steve's Plumbing needs to reimburse me for the work I paid them to do which was not done correctly or pay for the future costs of repairs that it will take to correct the water leak created by Steve's Plumbing.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/09/18) */
I agree we provided the drain and pipe for the shower, and had intentions of coming on the 21st of August to repair a leak. This was a second reoccurrence of the same leak which could be a fault of Steve's Plumbing or a result of a poor initial shower installation. An install that Steve's Plumbing had no control over! As a contractor we get in job environments that do not always allow us to hear or answer our phones in a timely fashion, never once did Steve ignore or not return calls. Although we may not have been as punctual as some may prefer, some situations just simply don't allow a instant response. On August 21st we happened to be on a job that simply didn't allow us to hear our phones, at 10:30 a.m Steve checked his messages and called back shortly after that. By 12:00 p.m it was decided by Steve to let [redacted] know that they were behind on the current job and would not make it that day. A number of things factored into this decision, none of which was receiving the final payment. The way the text's and conversation went in the morning simply lead to a situation that neither the contractor or consumer would wanted a further experience with.
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 11, 2015/09/29) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Again on Aug 21st Steve's Plumbing scheduled our place for his job that day, I should not have had to call him to find out he was on another job, and then be told he was not going to make it to my place to finish his job. As the consumer I agree with Steve's Plumbing that the way the situation ended on Aug 21st both parties agreed to not continues doing business. However this consumer has paid for services that are not complete. We still have a leak that needs to be fixed! So what is your solution to the payment issue? Do we hire someone to fix the problem & you agree to pay for their service or do you want to give a refund?
