Steven Mawyer Flooring

Review: Steven Mawyner breached our signed contract. We paid him to install hardwood floors, redo a bathroom, and complete other odd jobs around the house. He completed the hardwood floors (2 weeks after when he said they would be done), however, he did not rehang the doors, closet doors, and some of the door trim. He damaged the walls, damaged the floors, and poorly hung the baseboards (or not at all). He said our floor was sagging, so he jacked it up in the basement, and never removed the jacks! He was unreliable, showed up late, and left early. He never started the bathroom remodel. He has promised to send us money and our tile samples that he took. We even agreed on an amount and said he'd send it, but we have not received a check.Desired Settlement: We would like $3400 for the work that was not performed, and to cover the expense to have much of the work that he did do, redone correctly. All of the baseboards need to be removed and replaced. All of the door trim needs to be redone. All of the doors and closet doors need to be cut down and rehung. The walls need to be patched and repainted. The gouges in the floor need to be fixed.

Review: I was quoted a price of 1150 to have my hardwood floors installed by Mr. Mawyer at the end of September. He wrote up a contract stating he would start on 10/10/2013 and be completed by 10/13/2013. I gave him a check for $575 at his home on 10/5/2013. On the evening of 10/9/2013 he explained that he had family visiting and would start on 10/14/2013. Then on 10/14 he said that he had to order correct size nails and they wouldn't be back to later on in the week & he would start then. On 10/15 he said he had an emergency on a job so he would come on 10/18. On that date he did come and pulled up carpet and tack strips. called and said he needs $300 for supplies to build subfloor in area near dining room. This would really cost me an extra $100 and so upon completion I would only owe him $275. I explained I was at work and could put money in his bank account, he said he no longer had an account. That he would email me a receipt if I gave him cash. So my daughter gave him the 300, he told her he had email the receipt to me. I never got it. He tore a big hole at entrance of door. He never came back just every day or so I text him asking was he coming that day he has an excuse from another job to his son was in accident. So finally on 11/2 I asked was he coming to work he said no I asked for my money back. He said he would send a check. I have not received it yet. I text him his wife replied back that he was out of town in the hospital with broken ribs. My mother called he answered and said he was out of town on a job. I have kept all his text and emails.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded so I can pay a contractor to lay floor. I had to go ahead and move in condo but it has a board by door covering hole. it is very unsafe for me and my kids.
