Regardless of whether or not a manager inspected the trailer is irrelevant, I was still rented a trailer with an illegal tire and I have pictures and proof backing up my claim.  My biggest complaint, at this point in time, is Stevens refusal to acknowledge their mistake and take steps to insure it never happens again.  They continue to deflect their mistake with claims like "its the nature of the business"... insinuating that this is my fault.  Their defense is assumptions without any evidence backing it up.  My complaint is fact with photos supporting my claim.  I did not return the tire with a single nail in it so their entire defense behind this incident is void.  Here are the facts... I was rented a dump trailer with a temporary blow out patch (plug) in it.  The laws in the state of Maine (I have attached a picture) state that any tire with a temporary blowout patch is unsafe to be on the road. Two of the four tires had dry cracks all around the sidewalls. One of these tires, the one with the plug in it, blew going straight down the highway putting many motorists lives at risk. When I informed Stevens of the issue they stated that it isn't illegal to plug a tire and the reason it blew was I turned too hard.  When I told them it happened on the highway (the picture I have has gps coordinates attached to it verifying its location) they called me a liar and told me it didn't happen on the highway and continued trying to tell me I cut the trailer too hard. They were unware that Maine state law requires that all tire repairs must be done from the inside and not with a temporary blowout patch. I have attached a picture of the tire with the plug in it that they have admitted to being aware of and attempted to argue its legality with me.  As you can see from Maine state law, that tire is illegal and unsafe for the road.  I'm right, they're wrong, and I want them to acknowledge their negligence and take steps to fixing it.  I will accept nothing less out of this complaint.  I am not some "fly by the seat of their pants" roofer.  I am a highly regarded contractor who owns a lot of equipment, that I keep immaculate, so I am very informed and very familiar with hauling equipment.  The only reason I even rented the dump trailer is because I was doing an overhaul on maintaining my two dump trailers, by upgrading the light system to LED, and inspecting the hydraulic system for wear in case anything needed to be replaced.  Safety is my upmost concern with my equipment and its really hits a nerve with me when others are so negligent with theirs.  [redacted] is my website if you would like to investigate further.

The Manager on duty sent the trailer out and checked the tires and pressures and lights to ensure it was safe when it left our business. This is our procedure when renting trailer out. The customer was informed that due to the nature of his business that road hazards (IE: Flat tires) are his...

responsibility. Roofing is one of the most common uses of the dumping trailers and all too often they run over nails on the job site. This is most likely what caused his tire to blow out unfortunately it's the nature of the business he is in. Lessons can be learned by this accident, if he ever rents something from a company that he is not comfortable with do not rent it. Tires are inspected each time they go out and are replaced as needed. Due to the improper loading, low pressure due to possibly running over nails can cause tires to fail prematurely. It's our intention to rent quality equipment to our customers, it is impossible for us to enforce safe usage of our equipment. Safety is everyone's business and cannot be stressed enough that jobsite and tire inspection prior to heading down the road is critical. he will not be charged with the tire was damaged while he was using the trailer.
