Stiltz Tile and Granite Reviews (%countItem)

The owner of this company is horrible to deal with, will blame you for choices of products when they make a mistake. First of all, we had our whole house redone all flooring pulled out of our home. The floors that were brand new upstairs are really nice hardwood/reclaimed flooring. I asked the owner if he could get a "porta-potty" delivered as the guys ripping up the flooring downstairs were tracking up the dust and debris on their work boots upstairs and on our newly installed floors and that was the only bathroom working was upstairs as they needed to remove the toilets to do their work. The owner, Markus said that he would not pay for the porta potty and if we wanted one we could pay for it ourselves.

We were not living in the home at the time and we would come over in the evenings and our floors and walls were wrecked with footprints throughout the upstairs and dings on the corners of most walls. That night we wrapped the corners of the walls to protect them as we had ripped out some walls and re-textured and painted the whole inside of the home etc. I mentioned this to Markus and he said there were other contractors in the home and again it was not his fault! Even though I pointed out to him that there were several place on the walls near where they were working that were the identical size of the tile they were laying.

Then fast forward to my slab of granite being installed. The guys delivering it said that this was the biggest slab they had ever installed. I was videotaping from afar and as they slid it into place the 700 slab of granite snapped in 2. WE all were disappointed and Markus' response was somewhat concerning...he said that if I chose another piece that I would have to pay for it. We cleared that up and I ended up getting a similar piece to match. But that delayed us.

He would often say as they do great work I should be grateful they are taking their time - they promised it would be done in 2 weeks and it took 8 weeks. When pointing this out to him and telling him for the sake of future customers he should consider telling them double...and his response was always the same...he would YELL and say. "Do not tell me how to do my JOB!" Well than...DO YOUR JOB............!

He has only been in business for a couple years and does not know what he is doing at all...Buyer beware! I could go on and on but he will never take ownership and will blame the customer for picking out the wrong tile when the lines don't match up. He would say that is within the guidelines of the CCB, so I have contacted them and we will see. He has shouted in our home even though I had kids upstairs studying because of the COVID etc. And, when we came to an impasse and would not take ownership and we were done he would not leave our home. I said please leave and then it was please get out. On one the final visit, he was to come over to pick up some cabinets he damaged installing the granite and he just walked in our home without ringing the doorbell - he simply came in...entitled or just rude, not sure!

He is not a good business person and has no sense of how to do the job and has absolutely NO customer service skills at all! Make sure before you sign anything you ask about the LIEN he can put on your home, not in our case, but I had read another review regarding this...I feel sorry for the former owner Jim S, who I hear is a wonderful, caring, 100% customer service guy! I wish he was still in business. I don't think the new owner Markus will make it very much longer with the sloppy work and careless/reckless regard for customers! My floors are still not right!

I gave him suggestions for future customers in emails to no avail as he would always answer..."Don't tell me how to do my job!!!!!!!!!!" Once again, just do YOUR job or find another line of work!!!

First off, I am not responsible for a port a potty on a job. That is the responsibility of the homeowner. I masked off and boarded the stairs and hardwood on the way to said bathroom all subs on the job that were going to be upstairs. I did not need to do this, but did so as we try to be understanding of customer needs. The dings and scratches on walls are completely normal during construction and as I just stated we were not the only subs on the job. Most people understand that these things will occur and they factor said touch up into the cost of the job. In 30 years the previous owner and myself have never had to or been asked to provide money for touch up, especially with various other subs on the job. When we broke the slab I immediately ordered the next slab in the series. This was our fault and I took full responsibility. *** called me to say that she wanted to pick out the slab. I took this as she wanted a different slab all together and explained to her that if she chose a slab that was over and above our original estimate that I would be charging her the difference. *** came unglued and then took a week to make a determination that she wanted the slab just before the series. This would have always been paid for by me, but is worth noting that part of the delay was on her. It is not our fault that the slab broke, as is normal with any natural product, sometimes things happen. As far as the taking our time comment, I had originally told her that a good tile setter can set between 80 and 100 square feet a day. For the size of this job I explained that it would take us approximately 14 days and an additional 3 days for the Herringbone pattern in the entry. That is 17 work days which is the equivalent of 3+ weeks. This is also just an estimate as work can and often does take longer than anticipated with some unknowns being discovered while doing the project. She pushed and pushed for us to be done earlier but then wanted us to fix things that weren't actually in need of fixing., AND WE DID. I still contend that we are completely within standards setforth by the tile alliance and the Nevada State Contractors Board in all areas except the one tile that is in the kitchen. *** thinks that a 20 square foot section is incorrect and needs replacing. This is just her opinion. I am allowed the inherent warpage of the tile plus 1/32 of an inch for lippage. This calculates to approximately 3/32 of an inch which I am within. Throughout this process we have done everything in our control to help out ***. We replaced multiple areas she didn't like. We fixed a crawl space hole in order to cover the trap door that goes over it. We replaced a row of tile because she didn't like the size of one of the tiles even though these are wood plank tiles and can be various sizes when laying them out. We replaced tile in the bathroom because she thought that is was wrong even though again it was within standard. She was mad that we didn't replace the doors that we removed when we were finished even though those shouldn't have even needed to be taken down by us. We got glue on a couple of drawers in the island and I immediately agreed to fix them. She wanted me to fix the cooktop cutout that we had an additional trip to do because it was backordered for several weeks (which she is conveniently adding to her timeline to sound like I am inept) because it was off 1/32 of an inch. When I saw this I explained that someone still needed to secure it and 1/32 of an inch is nothing. The area she wants fixed was perfect when we first did it and when we came in the next day someone had stepped on it. We fixed it without additional charges, and she wasn't happy, so we tried again and to no avail she is still not happy. I have photo evidence of each of these problems. I have been sent hundreds of text messages and emails throughout this job. She has had several handy man companies, several electricians, several tile guys and soon several granite guys out to her house to complete the work. At which point is the common denominator (***) the problem? We cant all be bad sub contractors. On the last visit she kicked me out of her house while slamming my arm in her door. I immediately pushed back in and explained to her that action was assault and I should call the cops. Lastly I walked into her house without ringing the doorbell because my crew was already on site and had been in and out of the house several times while I was in my truck on the phone. I am part of that crew, and walking in to get the drawers that I needed to fix was not rude, crass, or a sense of entitlement. It was completely normal. I would never just show up to a house and walk in. We have since settled that I am giving her $1500 as reparations for the floor that she doesn't like, and the touch up that needs to take place throughout the house by ALL subs, so that she will just go away. The last thing that needs to be addressed are her Libelous reviews that she posted throughout the internet. Starting with this one.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: We will just need to "Agree to Disagree" as we do not see eye to eye! This is my review as a customer and other customers should be able to read my experience and make their own determination and judgments, but I want them to know my customer experience!

Sincerely

Agree to disagree is what people say when the other party made arguments that cannot be rejected. I addressed each point with facts not opinion. I detailed every aspect of the job and what we went through to help her. The agreement set forth by both parties is more than fair and my company is taking a $1500 hit to allow this disagreement to go away. It is not worth any more of my time as I have tried relentlessly to please the customer to no avail. She will never be happy and her opinion is just that, opinion. My statements regarding this issue are facts that she has opted to not refute because they are not refutable.
